I saw it when I was little and it first came out and thought it was fun comfy action kino
Then I grew up and realized this
And it was an eye opening moment for me, actually. That's when I realized that Hollywood does not give a flying frick about you or me or anyone else. They literally took the single fact that some guys died, and they shamelessly fabricated an entire movie based on their deaths. Their personalities in the movie are interchangeable caricatures. Everything that transpired on the boat is made up. The way they bravely died is fan fiction.
I started realizing then how much other swill gets put out that's just a shameless money grab that relies on us literally not thinking for 2 hours.
My moment was with pearl harbor, well slightly after when I read about what transpired.
Turns out sure Japs shamesly surprise attacked it (though there're some conflicting reports saying they sent a letter first, other's that no they didn't, etc) but what got me was that they actively avoided civilians and hospitals unlike in the movie and the only civilian kills were US friendly fire...unlike the movie
why, it's fiction. it would look a lot cleaner make more sense if he wasn't in it. there were some all white crews at the time so having one on film isn't so far fetched.

It's based on a book. I don't know. Most people don't know much about boating & the life of fishermen. That's why Deadliest Catch was made. It's interesting.
I just heard a podcast yesterday where the hosts Dad said this outfit tried to recruit him but he said no cause the chopped the ass off this boat and added 20 ft and he said that fricked the integrity of the originally engineered boat and how others who worked it said it was a death trap. I will now always think of this and how fricking desperate/stupid these people were. Ruined any emotional/sad aspect.
To be honest even if the ship was in perfect conditions it wouldn't matter. 2 years ago a fishing ship from my country, state of the art and in perfect conditions, disappeared, There were like 2 survivors who jumped into a special safe boat (rest of safe boats also disappeared). A wave literally said "frick you in particular" and destroyed the ship according to the 2 survivors
Concidentally there was a single black person in the ship, who also didn't know how to swim, he's among the lost ones
