he looked normal in the ZSJL scenes that were clearly shot in 2016. the stuff snyder shot in 2020 for the knightmare/martian manhunter ending, he looks malnourished. in josstice league, he’s bloated and puffy and red. in the flash, he looks like a terminally ill cancer patient.

The fact that we're talking about 3 different shoots with a multi-year gap and 2 different directors all for the same film is just kind of insane when you think about it.

We've discussed the failure of the DCEU so much the madness has lost some of its shock value. But they seriously took the pivotal film of their entire cinematic universe, hired somebody who was the complete tonal and aesthetic opposite of the original director to reshoot the vast majority of it despite the fact that their Superman actor would need his face conspicuously CGI'd over in every new scene. And then they got thoroughly humiliated when the guy they fired recut the movie again and made a version everyone agrees was better than the one they'd basically doubled their production budget to produce. And they would have split that film in half and released it theatrically as 2 films. They spent twice as much to make half as much. When you factor in the collateral damage from the DCEU basically being a lame duck franchise with multiple DOA films being shat out after the thing was already announced as dead, the opportunity cost is in the billions. Just fricking staggering

he was terrible, but the material he was given was complete dogshit, i'd be depressed too if i was forced to play old batman with no film setup and barely any lines. The script was a trainwreck, the movie should never have been made, BM VS S should have been a 3+ movie setup and much more drawn out.

      Also the villains were dogshit.

Ben Affleck played Batman precisely because the role was different from anything else done previously.

He was a victim of the directors in every movie. He wasn't supposed to come out of nowhere and beat the shit out of superman in a superman movie. Fans absolutely hated that. Then in the rest of them they tried to dial it back and make him "lose" but it was too late...plus, he functioned more as a macguffin in the plots than anything else. Didn't do any detective work or even act like Batman.

          >I'm convinced people decided to hate it the moment Affleck was cast based on Daredevil.
Maybe morons. It was over ten years ago when he was cast but I remember it all vividly. There were a lot of people flipping their shit but the discourse was mostly ranging from “I don’t personally see it” to “This might work, let’s see” and then most of the naysayers shut the frick up as soon as the picture of him standing in front of the Batmobile came out, where most people went to being excited for him. Gal Gadot being skinny with no boobs and Jesse Eisenberg were way more controversial.
          >It has some great moments and it's no more contrived or dumber than Civil War or any top ranked MCU shit
Yes, it absolutely is. Civil War didn’t have scenes that literally stop the movie and disrupt the story to set up future movies that ended up never happening (knightmare) and Doomsday being tacked on was fricking moronic, I don’t care whatever Christ allegory you guys come up with for that.

Based on what I've seen, people tend to rate this Batman smack dab in the middle. The census is that there were some good aspects (warehouse fight, general portrayal of Bruce Wayne) but that he wasn't utilized to his full potential. Doesn't help that his solo movie got canned and his last appearance was in the Flash.

Batman here and in Snyder's movies is different. Both are based on Miller's version but in the Flash he was more of a post-TDKR Batman.

I feel like Snyder wanted a Batman similar to the one in "Damned" but WB didn't allow him to be that edgy. Or maybe I'm off the mark.

Because he is. If you compare him to, say, Arthur Fleck, Arthur is pushed to the brink of sanity by society and is a byproduct of bad luck. Killing Murray is like a cathartic emotional experience to him.
Meanwhile this Joker just kills Conan O'Brien because it's fun. And he's nonchalant about it because he has gotten that "high" so many times he's desensitized to it.

Ben did fine and was believable with the role. Had he had one standalone film as Batman, same as Gadot got, same as Cavill got, same as Momoa got, same as Miller got, instead of being just another piece in an ensemble cast or having to share the screen with Superman, and was given a chance to establish himself as both Bruce Wayne and Batman in a movie reminiscent but far enough away from The Dark Knight trilogy where he takes on one of the many villains he could have fought to gauge whether or not he was suitable for the role, THEN we would have been able to give him a fair assessment against Keaton, Kilmer, Bale and the like. Ben was never given the chance to show what it is that he could have brought to the table. A standalone Ben Affleck Batman movie is something that we were all robbed of and it would have made dimes fall from the heavens.

I bet you anything that if Affleck got greenlit for a solo Batman movie, it would knock every other film that summer out of the park.
