first post, wtf is with the gamers rise up shit?
Hasbro stockholders.
So...the correct thing is to continue not giving a frick about magic lore?
How does yugioh have a better lore than magic the gathering?
It doesn't but Yu-Gi-Oh is a solo game anyway so they're hardly comparable. In Yu-Gi-Oh you get to play your cards for 20min and BAM, you win. There's some guy watching you on the other side of the table but don't pay attention to him.
Yeah I’ve seen the modern duel links videos. But the cards themselves jus seem more fun, MTG is all just vague bastardizations of European folk lore combined with shit directly ripped off from LOTR. In yugioh I can either play as a dragon or an Egyptian wizard or a battleship shaped like sushi or weird super hero’s. It just seems like they made a diverse set of cards based on the fact of just having fun and doing what they wanted, where MTG just bastardized existing properties to make themselves look better to Twitter. Has the original creator commented on this?
Magic has some fun stuff. Lately I've been playing a deck built around putting cats in ovens so I can hit my opponent with a giant cookie.
Say what you will about the game, but Albaz lore is unironically kino and I will stand for no slander spoken against it.
Yugioh is genuinely just as bad as MTG. It is "Superman vs Goku". One is replaced by his gay son, getting cucked by his biological father, and was raped in prison; the other has tumblr hair and is literally (and figuratively) regressing to a child... again but people love it now because it is canon.
>someone edit this to GT and Daima
/tg/ redditor Bootlickers defending Hasbro yet again. Aragorn had really tan skin like an Italian. It’s only dumb e-celebs c**ts like doug Walker that thought he looked like a native Americans.
>/tg/ redditor Bootlickers defending Hasbro yet again.
How anyone can call themselves liberals or socialists yet defend Hasbro who has a history of using the Pinkerton agency to go after people and intentionally hire child labor beyond me.
Making a billion crossovers with other peoples IPs shows a dramatic lack of faith in your own. The only marvel character that fits in mtg is conan.
Thats less about WotC and more of Disney I feel. They fricking have Lorcana for fricks sake
>The only marvel character that fits in mtg is conan.
MTG has had recent sets based on cyberpunk Japan and roaring 20s magical New York. Before the Marvel crossover happens they're doing wild west, space opera, and an entire world that's a sentient haunted house inspired by 80s horror movies.
Yeah but none of those settings are gay like capeshit
Classic Marvel comics universe certainly wasn't gay
They have literally released pride sets.

>it's real
I want to run a Twilight Sparkle commander deck
unlucky. Twilight Sparkle was in the first set in 2019. Doubt you could get it now
noooooooo
The price actually just shot up because with this new set they printed the rest of the ponies in Twlight Sparkle's effect

>he doesn't know about the LGBTQABZYW set
all of those things were bad and led longtime players to quit the game
Magic teams up with anything that has money. From Trump to Transformers, Street Fighter, and more.
Oh, and they've also done crossovers with Stranger Things, Godzilla, Walking Dead, Jurassic Park, Transformers, Evil Dead, Princess Bride, Final Fantasy, Warhammer 40k, Assassin's Creed, and Fallout.
Magic's lore is a clusterfrick right now.
They just got rid of their last big legacy villains and in the worst possible way.
>Nicol Bolas
Locked in a plane and desparked, all memory of him gone and thus cannobbe reached.
>Eldrazi
All except Emrakul are dead, she's in Innistrad's moon
>Phyrexians
All dead or in a time bubble.
Last one was a major shitshow. They basically ripped off Endgame and had Elesh Norn orchestrate this big invasion of everywhere all at once. But then the Avengers- I mean the Gatewatch open a portal to Wakanda- I mean Zhalfir and a bunch of black dudes with African tribalism-inspired aesthetics and weapons start killing all the undead machine horrors with LITERAL FRICKING SPEARS, INCLUDING BUTTFRICKING VORINCLEX!
And then when Elesh Norn dies, the writers pretend they remember how Phyrexian Oil works. One drop basically can doom an entire plane because it trns them into Phyrexians and now that shit is all over every plane (which makes the whole "sudden invasion" shit stupid), right? Well no because for some fricking reason it now works off an extraplanar WiFi signal or some shit and now completely inert because Norn is dead. Woopadidoot. And at a cost of all of this some walkers lost their spark (the ability to let them cross planes) but who cares because the Phyrexians accidentally made a way for all most of the planes together so nothing fricking happened!
And then the whole arc pulls a Korra and wants you to clap for it because it ends with two shit characters kissing because HECKIN CORPORATE LGBT PANDERING is still somehow couterculture even when backed up by yet another multimillion dollar company.
Frick me... but, hey, Marvel and Magic deserve each other at this point.
>Magic
>The game that had a gay loot drop with a bunch of fat dudes and a FtM troony all in a spring
>Wanting anything to do with le chuds
Forgot pic
>New Phyrexia
They really ran out of ideas, huh.
tbf New Phrexia was a plotline set up over a decade ago so it wasn't completely out of nowhere it was just a massive shitshow in regards to storytelling though worse than even the general state of MtG storytelling
Fair enough. I stopped playing and keeping track of the stories in 2008.
>2008.
2004, no '08.
New Phyrexia was back 2012 and it was great. They hyped that up for a span of 10 years only to be shat on the execution. Its very unfortunate
A giant multiverse fight doesn’t make it just like avengers endgame. If anything it’s an elric ripoff.
No, but when it's all about some grand fight with people just running out of portals starring the series' attempt at a superhero team with an attempted female trump card against a villain that just wants to wipe out life with some benevolent preaching masking a want to control, all for a series that's been trying to ride the coattails of what was expected to be popular releases (Kamigawa: Neon Destiny releasing around Cyberpunk 2077, a space carnival unset releasing around Lightyear... hey I said "expected to be popular"), as part of an ongoing story that had a set where the marketing team designed posters similar to movie posters because War was releasing on the same day as a certain Avenger's film... It becomes pretty obvious.
>Only give a shit about Ajani
>Still feel dead inside despite him turning back to normal
Why is it super easy to get gaslit that nerdslop like MtG and Marvel comics are popular?
How I felt with Elspeth.
Was unhappy with how she was killed, was even more unhappy with how they brought her back. Not that I pay any attention to MtG anymore, been dead to me for years, but I do like some of the older stories and occasional videos on the older eras (even if people constantly feel the need to remind me that "Urza bad" as if he's some real life thought criminal or something despite being a fantastic character.)
>caring about card game lore.
>The only marvel character that fits in mtg is one that isn't a marvel character
>Making a billion crossovers with other peoples IPs shows a dramatic lack of faith in your own. The only marvel character that fits in mtg is conan.
You should really take a look at all the collaboration Magic has done over the years.
I obviously meant mtg as what the setting used to be not numtg
No, i don't think you meant that.
but I did. mtg was originally very distinctly fantasy
>Making a billion crossovers with other peoples IPs shows a dramatic lack of faith in your own.
I can't believe Fortnite is dying press F in chat guys
>I can't believe Fortnite is dying press F in chat guys
If you Cinemaphileumblr bootlickers know anything about the gaming industry. Epic games already mass laying offing employees.
How badly is MTG doing lately? Well I assume they're doing badly anyway, because after so many crossovers in a short amount of time (including Doctor "please don't let our IP die again" Who) I can only imagine they're desperate for attention.
Making tons of money, but hit the tipping point where it is more speculator and "secondary market" scalper/NFTgay behavior than widely played game at this point. The vast majority of card sales these days are to psychos buying up pallets of cards to sell online.
Sales and profitability are up. Number of units sold and players are down. They're selling less, more expensive shit. Hasbro is milking the cash cow, but it's absolutely not sustainable.
There's a bigger long term issue and that's the executive leadership doesn't play or understand the game at all, and that will eventually bite them in the ass if they push too hard.
They're in no danger of collapse, for now at least. They can still retreat to digital and survive for year and years if it comes down to it.
Literally who the frick asked for this?
I doubt there's any significant overlap between Marvel fans and MtG fans.
Investors. Consumers? Can suck a dick
>I doubt there's any significant overlap between Marvel fans and MtG fans.
Are you kidding me? Marvel movies are extremely popular with the nerd community. This is going to sell even more than the Lord of the Rings set than earlier this year.
I'm talking out of personal experiences, but from what I've seen /tg/ types usually look down on capeshit and capefans usually don't care much for /tg/ stuff either.
I highly doubt the average Cinemaphilener represents any large group of people.
The magic players I know usually do end up buying the crossover boxes. Know a few that would definitely dry hump a marvel set as they play Snap as well.
Is your personal experience just Cinemaphile? The overlap is almost 1:1. If a comic store has the space, it will also double as a game store for magic.
No, but it's not burgerland either because I'm European.
Then why don't comics have better sales? Considering that card games and tabletop games sell pretty well.
There is plenty of overlap, it's the same bunch of sweaty unwashed nerds with money to spend.
Billion dollar companies are just looking for return on investment in their IP so obviously comic and card fans alike will see this as a lazy crash grab, just like 90% of crossover events in general.
I thought you smelly wednesday warriors hated the mtg crowd.
I guarantee you that more people asked for this than asked for Doctor Who or Fallout.
tbh the warhammer one was actually cool.
>crossovers bad unless it’s MY funkopops mtg is selling
Reddithammer moment
MCUgays buy merch. Not comics though, but they do love merch. Might be a good move. The cards don't even have to be good.
>Literally who the frick asked for this?
A fellow by the name of Mark Rosewater.
its pretty much funko pop the card game
Nice
So if we're getting multiple sets, they could easily theme it around different things
>Initial set with general Marvel stuff
>Avengers
>X-Men
>Spider-Man
>Gods and magic
>Cosmic
And of course, those could also all be commander deck themes.
The fact that they're going to have plenty of room to dive deep and the trailer had the kid reading comics instead of showing clips from the movies makes me a little hopeful they might do some actual cool stuff instead of just obvious synergy.
I especially hope we get tons of X-Men characters. They won't be in the MCU yet by the time this set comes out, but they're still extremely popular. I especially look forward to seeing how different powers are reflected in the cards' abilities. I assume Magneto would have some kind of synergy with Artifacts, and characters like Deadpool or Juggernaut would have indestructible.
This post reads like a PR intern got paid to write something but only had thirty minutes to learn anything about the game.
They better not do my boy Cyclops dirty.
Holy frick a shitty franchise in a shitty game??Hype!!!
Two brands on a downward slide come together to... slide down faster? Hasn't Hasbro been screwed over hard enough by Marvel?
They better fit together
I don't think they'd even have the same color identity for commander.
Will Jess even make it in? She isn't in the MCU.
What makes you think it's only the MCU?
I wish Magic didn't get too goddamn complicated for me to enjoy, these crossovers seem fun.
Gonna stick with Marvel Snap
The rules of Magic are still simple enough. You could probably do a draft game or too with the Marvel set, where you only play cards pulled from random booster packs.
oh I used to play like 20 years ago as a kid. It's just now there's all this shit with commanders and plainswalkers and seige and so many card effects and stuff working together. Don't have the time to dive in.
A like draft with Marvel cards might be fun though, no idea if any local places run them/if they'd work like that
If you ever feel like trying to get back into it check out Magic Arena. It's free and hovering over the cards will explain all the keywords you don't know.
>Marvel Snap
I can't believe I tried playing that crap, fricking cheap trash.
Come home white man.
Wizards of the Coast losing Pokémon card license hilarious because they thought it was a fad that wouldn’t last four years. Nintendo offered to sell them licenses to make Pokémon, Star Fox, Zelda, and Mario TTRPG they turned down.
>Nintendo offered to sell them licenses to make Pokémon, Star Fox, Zelda, and Mario TTRPG they turned down.
TSR appealed to young kids beyond DnD. Kids don’t find Table top games appealing outside of Warhammer 40K. Mario and Pokémon RPGs would be appealing to them.
When a video game or card games does this many crossover. it usually means the product becoming less popular and less profitable with a few exceptions.
Not necessarily, it can mean that the people in charge want even more money because investors demand infinite growth year after year.
It actually means that they have transitioned to using the game and its existing fanbase as a platform to facilitate brand deals.
>It actually means that they have transitioned to using the game and its existing fanbase as a platform to facilitate brand deals.
That’s why Yu-gi-oh still outselling magic the gathering and major stores dropping MTG? Okay than.
Why is Hasbro using licenses to sell MTG cards? Can’t the game stand on it’s own? Hasbro pretty much killed D&D among zoomers who love Warhammer shit.

Will they include the Punisher or is he too problematic now?
If they include him he won't wear the skull.
Just make him a woman. BLAM! Fixed.
They tried like twice
>Magic is turning into western Weiß Schwarz
Lame.
>yfw we get a promotional comic of Miles Morales and Kamala Khan playing Magic: The Gathering
