Marvel Studios Presidents Kevin Feige And Louis D'Esposito Address MCU "Rough Patch"

>"If we just stayed on top, that would have been the worst thing that could have happened to us," D’Esposito said in an interview with Empire. "We took a little hit, we’re coming back strong. We learned our lesson. When you do too much, you dilute yourself. We’re not going to do that anymore. Two to three films a year and one or two shows, as opposed to doing four films and four shows."

>DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, is the only Marvel film being released this year, which is something Feige welcomes. "It’s nice to be able to rally behind only one feature project this year," Feige told the publication. "I’m comfortable being the underdog. We are able to surprise, and exceed expectations. So it does seem like the last year, which has not been ideal, has at least set us up well for that."

If they were actually trying to fix it they’d fire pascal and hire a white guy with an American accent as Reed.

They’d redesign she-hulk to be thinner and prettier.

They’d make a nova movie and not have it be a fricking joke.

They’d sideline Carol and give kamala her actual power rather than green lantern nonsense.

They’d bring back Steve Rogers and have Sam accept he can do more as falcon.

And the shows just have to fricking go.
A big appeal to the MCU among normies which raked in the box office was everyone feeling like they were on the same page. If they want their box office back, they need to return to that in some capacity, at least making sure the shows are somehow available outside of Disney+
Between RWBY and Friends of all goddamn shows, a brutal lesson is that using a franchise to carry a platform always damages said franchise rather than gets people to flock to said platform. Obviously Disney+ has numbers outside those shows but the stats remain the same

        >A big appeal to the MCU among normies which raked in the box office was everyone feeling like they were on the same page.
Very little people felt the need to watch every movie
Even up to the first Avengers I guarantee a majority of people only watched one character or even none of them

yea, I hate win I continuously perform well. Every now and then you have to frick up everything you're doing on a massive scale. You know, for reasons that I can't explain to you right now. But trust me, it's a good good thing, very good. Hard to overstate how positive of a situation blowing millions of dollars and destroying peoples faith in you is.

I think they're kicking themselves for not wrapping up with Endgame. They could have just said "Hey, that's it, the MCU's over! Great run everybody, we're gonna do some solo films for a while and if any of them stick we'll start a new connected universe" and even if they did nothing but frick up for years they'd still have the MCU as their brand. Now they've got this huge mess with no redeeming projects for like the last five years at this point and they can't figure out how to disengage.

      Anonymous

I think the reaction to WandaVision and No Way Home in 2021 suggests that people weren't tired of the MCU after Endgame (though you could argue that they benefited from the pandemic-enforced lack of MCU content in 2020). They still had plenty of characters people liked.

They pushed out way too much content in 2022/3 and most of it was bad but their problems aren't specifically that Endgame was the end of the story, because they never really had an over-arching story.
