Episode 2 was pretty good, not as fun as Episode 1 but hard to beat a Nebula-centric episode.

Would've preferred someone like Heimdall or SIF over Thor but still fun.

Episode 1 was boring, fun concept but no stakes at all.

I wanted to skip the first episode because the premise sounded boring but it was pretty fun

I really feel like these episodes should be around 40-50 minutes, the scenes need more time to breathe. The scenarios are interesting but it they're always speedrunning through the.

      This is true though

Episode 2 should have been called "What If... Peter Quill cucked Scott Lang?"

Eh, I thought it was cute. Maybe Hope will actually have a kid in this universe.

I thought the part where they managed to get trough to Bucky was pretty good as well.

In that spirit they´re weirdly in touch with the comics then that for most What Ifs are contained to one, no? Thats always a thing i noticed between those and the Tales from the Dark Multiverse DC did.

Nebula really works as a noir detective. I love me some Howard the duck, and the fact he called his henchmen rock, paper, scissors was genuinely funny. Color me surprised that when she needed a lock smith it wasn't Rocket. At first I thought it eas going to be men le bad woman le good but glad they went the ending they did.

It's more OOC to be honest, 80s Thor should have loved that Quill genocided Jotunheim since the first Thor movie's plot was kicked off by him starting an international incident by killing Ice Giants for fun.

lol, more women fully dressed, acting like a man
no curves allowed at all, totally based on the MCU, even in other universes, women need to look, act and dress conservatively and the X-Men 97 is going the same way as the Madelyne Prior toy shows she was wearing a black military outfit like the MCU, they take the elements that make comics fantastical and surreal and put a realistic stripe and woke on top, Marvel comics died for this just like the MCU, this cartoon will meet the same fate.

I gave up after episode 1. The plot is just senseless stupidity piled ontop of itself for the sake of an obvious twist you only wouldn't expect because of how little sense it makes with the previous scenes.

Whats even funnier about how badly done the plot is, is that they never established that the rest of the Nova Corp, who she mowed down and killed by the dozen without blinking or caring, even knew about the plot of the person she immediately tried to spare. Lets put aside the stupidity of "Needing a cyborg(For a computer accessed by normal people all the time and has seemingly never had a cyborg access it by a corps who are all completely corrupt but also none of them have cyborg components), the short opened with that same character turning the shield on and now she needs to jump through insane hoops to get the code to turn it off. Glad all that Ronin buildup got cut off by something they could've done earlier, apparently, nevermind him surviving this in the movie itself.

I had hopes they'd turn it around but this shit is just as poorly plotted as season one. Time to wait till the end and see if any highlights appear like the Strange one from the last season.

      Anonymous

      >the rest of the Nova Corp, who she mowed down and killed by the dozen without blinking or caring, even knew about the plot of the person she immediately tried to spare.
In hindsight she really wouldn't have any way of knowing or any reason to think ALL of the Nova Corps except herself was in on the plot, for sure not the people she just up and fricking murdered walking in who would've been low level grunts on her level. And even then she tries to save the lady who just tried to stomp her into falling to her death literal seconds ago. You know, most people like to make jokes about "The hero who mows down dozens of grunts but then all of the sudden can't kill the big bad because "No, I won't kill him!", but I can't think of any movie where that actually happens, and then this one finally gives an example of that being played straight and nobody points it out.

And why the frick couldn't prime just turn off the shield herself, that made no sense. She turned it on.

The What If episodes I actually enjoy are the ones that actually seem plausible, like Stephen Strange going over the line. When you contrive a character around a premise instead of make them naturally react to the setting, like make out T'challa to have Commander Shepard-level plot dialogue options even without being raised in Wakanda's court, I just stop caring because the story clearly doesn't

I have absolutely no expectations they will explain how the Ten Rings can stand up to the most powerful gods of Asgard. I just want to see the trainwreck out of morbid curiosity.

That's a really weird place for him to appear especially since I've never been sure how old Thanos is supposed to be in the MCU, but all will be forgiven if he shows up in a top hat and monocle or something

I saw Shang-Chi. I am not convinced he's THAT strong, unless he's supposed to be able to dish out damage on par with a dwarf star.

Remember. Hela was at least able to keep getting up and fighting against Thor as he was at the end of Ragnarok so long as Asgard was intact. Nothing short of an Infinity Gauntlet user should be able to stand against her AND Odin.

1602 won't be a normal What If...? episode, the premise is that Uatu sends Capter Carter to a universe where the Avengers somehow get stuck in the past during the events of Infinity War and Thanos is the antagonist of the finale, the leaks say it'll involve an incursion. Also the actual canon Sacred Timeline Steve post-Endgame might appear in the season

I liked Blade Runner Nebula and 80s Avengers. But they could've explained Ronan more. I assume he had the power stone? They don't make it clear what the divergence really was. And the Avengers cast could've been developed more in E2 but the runtime doesn't allow for it. If there's a sequel maybe they will though.

      >"What If... Happy Hogan Saved Christmas?" (We are here)

      >"What If... Hela Found the Ten Rings?"
      >"What If... the Avengers Assembled in 1602?"

The Tony one is a given due to the cut from last season, but aside of that, Hela and 1602 they sound a bit like a whatever, with Strange Supreme not being clear on what to intervene.

That would just be Doctor Strange, Strange Supreme is the specific title for the one from S1 that got his universe destroyed.

I meant more along the line fo Strange Supreme interfering with that moment, and killing Thanos or something. It's one of the few huge significant changes that can actually have a drastic effect on things.
Although, it also could be Strange Supreme interfering with the events of Iron Man 1, which kickstarted the whole MCU anyway.

The production brief sent out to the press states:
When Captain Carter teams up with an old friend to hunt down vicious Universe Killers terrorizing the Multiverse, she finds the greatest threat to all existence may be closer to her than she realizes.
I assume he's trying to harness their power like he did with the monsters in his original episode to rebuild his universe with Christine, since he never got over losing her.

It does feel like What If is being hampered by the need to pander to kids. It's like Marvel thinks that because this series is animated, it has to have episodes that appeal to children like the Party Thor one or this latest episode. On one hand, this is basically the MCU Saturday Morning cartoon show that Avengers Assembled wanted to be so badly.

It's more just the constant jokes. The zombies episode is a good example of this. The writers worried the subject matter was too dark so they lined it wall to wall with humor.

I will say this though: Whoever wrote The Marvels turned her into a completely different and much more pathetic character than the bossy b***h she was presented as in Endgame, and knowing she was deliberately avoiding Earth like the plague specifically to avoid a black girl she met decades ago and she's spent DECADES not only crushed by guilt but doing fricking nothing about the Kree after blowing up the Supreme Intelligence makes it seem like all her aggression was just desperately fronting.

I think I'd prefer it if the What Ifs branched off the movies rather than be an excuse to one off stories. Like "What If the Other Half was Snapped?" or "What If Iron Man stopped Captain America in Civil War?". That said it's always good to see the Avengers working together on normal missions. In the movies we got like Age of Ultron and that was it.

Wonder why "what if the other half got snapped?" taking so long. That's the one everybody wants to see, right?

Seriously. Any message board talking about "what episodes should What If do" has 300 better suggestions than "what if Captain Marvel was an Indian?"

When will we fricking get "what if the other half was Snapped away?"

        Anonymous

Because it's easy and infinitely more interesting than anything in season 2. At least the concept has something they know and would understand and you can see where it goes.

Of course, considering how much the Neblua and Ego episodes remembered their own baselines, or episode 6's nonstop shitheap to jack off its character, it's for the best they don't use it. Last thing we need is for Ms Marvel to pick up the guantlet and become a god or something. I don't know if she was snapped, I have not seen a single thing she's in.

Goddamn that episode was bad. If there was ever an episode to showcase the lost potential of this series, it's the episode where 99 percent of all the amazing and impactful and totally great actions by the totally not jacked off MC happens offscreen. It's not just that it's a completely naked attempt at someone dryhumping a cutout of their favorite character, they can't even be arsed to figure out how he actually pulled off any of this shit he totally did no problem and relegated it to voice overs so they could skip to more explaining he's awesome while showing what has to be the most boring week of his life. Can't even pick one event to focus on that actually mattered, it was mostly a boring ass shootout in between a frickload of exposition.

Saying "This great amazing perfect character outdebated Thanos... now here's a bog standard not particularly well directed action scene we're going to show instead!" is just this whole series in a nutshell.

That episode was such a naked attempt to hype up Chadwick it's truly sad he passed when he did, seeing Black Panther 2 with this level of dumb shit wank would've been way more entertaining.
            >Black Panther is so great he convinced the Ravegers to be good, as a child! No we won't show this.
            >He totally outdebated Thanos! No we won't show this.
            >He totally fixed Nebula's personality and now she loves him! No we won't show this, but we will make her a platinum blonde. You know why.
            >He beat every space badguy, saved the universe and everyone loves him! No we won't show you how.
            >But oh no! The world is in danger because Ego found Quill on earth!
            >Does this mean there's literally any danger, at all? Nope, solved in literally under a minute in an aside on the next episode. We will not show how, just that he carried Peter out, somehow.
            >Now, you might be thinking "Hold on, shouldn't Ego be on his core planet? That was literally the entire basis of the second movie.", and to that we say, if you're still here after the Thanos thing you're clearly too stupid to have even realized this massive plothole, don't play that game. Shut up and pretend this pretend guy is awesome because we told you he is, we don't need to show it.

Watching Chadwick go this full on unabashed jackoff on Namor would've been endlessly more entertaining than what we got, I'm not even going to lie. If you're gonna go for it just go for it.

You know, that’s an interesting point. Maybe they should just lean right in on this more than they’re doing? I mean objectively, the episode was bad from a storytelling standpoint, all tell don’t show for the major bits and what they did show wasn’t 1/100th as interesting Or difficult to write, since they’re really not smart enough to pull that off but if you were a black panther fan who just wanted to see an episode say your guy is the best and just tell you it, lean the frick into it. He can convince anyone to do anything and beat anyone in a fight without trouble and gets the cold girl but makes her pretty. Pure utter wish fulfillment at a level even Batman doesn’t do. There has never been as much Batwank as that one episode, I dare someone to show otherwise.

So why not just go into it? Have an episode where Tony fixes everything because he’s the smartest and doesn’t really need the others. Have one where Hulk comes early and just wrecks all the villains because really, he’s the strongest, and he gets a hot girlfriend too. Or have Black Widow just use the infinity gauntlet without an issue constantly because she was trained for it or something. Have Hawkeye take out Thanos with an arrow because he joined in Infinity War.

These shorts are already dumb as frick, just go full stupid wank and make that the joke. Either you’re in or not.

Because of time/space differences in different parts of the universe, his already become famous for defeating Thanos’ army. Gamora tracks him down on Sakaar, shenanigans ensue. It was really good. And like other anon said, would have been a much better Iron Man 3.

The writing on the last episode was weird.

Grandmaster apologizes to Gamora for not recognizing her being Thanos' daughter. Then the next moment calls her a muppet of Thanos

Lot of characters do stuff that dont make sense, writers need to do better to narratively go from A to B without making characters do something they never would

It would have made more sense to have not acknowledged her being Thanos' daughter or at least never believing it. Not believing it moments after acknowledging it comes off as writers not paying attention to the screenplay

That's basically what the original What If comic was, they tended to have simple scenarios like character swaps. Sometimes they get really shitposty with it like "What If Galactus was Uncle Ben's nephew?" (that's a real issue).

That's the crazy part, assume for a moment you had 0 idea about GOTG2 and saw this episode, you wouldn't know what the frick was going on.
          >Episode just shows Peter Quill being abducted, but it doesn't give any context why he's out in the middle of the field when it happens
          >Says he's being brought to Ego, doesn't bother explaining why Ego even wants him or the previous attempts
          >Doesn't bother explaining why the seeds are there, or even what they do besides "Destroy the planet"
          >Now Peter has superpowers, but they straight up just don't explain any of that or what those vague powers even do or why they work sometimes
          >Suddenly Ego can control him except no he can't except yes he can wait no he can't.
          >And has Peter say at the end "If I put this in me, I'll always have a part of you in me", which, A, makes no fricking sense since they didn't establish that drawback about killing Ego or not being on the planet, and B, doesn't make any fricking sense since he's been popping off like crazy off of Ego anyway, the drawback from the movie doesn't work here because he hasn't been on Ego this whole time. He's doing something to fix a problem they don't have in this world they never even explained before now.

They told you nothing and then reminded you of something they themselves just kept getting wrong, whatever nepotism got this writer hired has got to be some strong shit cause they can't even follow an adult cartoon for their kid cartoon.

Feels more like the writing was being affected by the pacing more than anything else, they can only do so much in just 30 minutes so they have to rush or handwave a lot of shit to make the plot work in a lot of the episodes.

You know what might help that? Not radically changing how shit you're basing this off of works.

            >Oh no, we changed literally everything, but our entire plot hinges on you knowing about the stuff we changed and now we don't have time to explain what we changed it to or how it works!
            >Man, if only there was an easy way to fix this that also allowed people a quick and easy way to get all of the rules and questions for themselves answered if they didn't understand something. Some kind of previous explanation, perhaps, that we don't even need to provide.
            >Man, whoever I know that got my ass hired really should have told me everything would be better if I literally didn't add a single thing from my head.

They have to "radically change shit" specifically because of the tight runtime.

                Anonymous

That makes no sense, that only adds to the amount of stuff they have to explain or give reasoning to whereas if they kept it consistent then the audience always has a means to figure out what’s going on themselves even if it’s not said. Now, if they started as if nobody had seen the previous one and explained everything there, then they could make whatever rules they wanted. Like the evil strange one, that one straight up doesn’t require you to know anything about Dr Strange, and explained any and all changes. But because it still was based off it, you could always just look to the movie to explain something like his necklace if you wanted.

A short runtime should mean keeping as many of the established reasoning even if you toss out the plots, especially if you’re hard dependent on said original plot to do most of the heavy lifting in your explaining, like the Peter episode did. If you haven’t seen GOTG2, nothing makes sense. If you have, you understand the motivations, but nothing about the plot makes sense and contradicts what gave those motivations. Don’t have time? Use what’s been established. Want to do something new? Don’t base it off something that told your audience something different. This is basic ass even a moronic child could figure out storytelling, but we’re not dealing with the C team even here.

                >No, don't you see? I have to radically change shit, which thus adds to the amount of stuff I need to explain or establish or show, because I just don't have enough time to use the thing that someone already explained or established or showed.
                >I mean, I will use that thing they established explained or showed, It'll be the baseline of the episode, but then I'll add new stuff that requires a pretty sizeable explanation. Don't worry though, I've got a foolproof way to get around that time addition! I won't explain shit.
                >So going in you'll know what should be going on, since I'm still using the movie as the jumping point, but then everything will be different. Because I have no time, you see, so I'll just add stuff but then not waste time making sense of it!

                For which episode?

Frick it, I'll just use number 2.
                >The entire fricking basis of GOTG 2 is that Ego needs Peter to specifically be on his planet(The only place a celestial gene will activate and be able to be used, which is why Peter can't do any of the powers off the planet) to act as essentially a second battery to begin the assimilation of other planets by hatching those seeds he planted that spread out, assimilate, and convert the planets he put them on. That's the plot. If Peter is on Ego, and Ego activates his genes, that's when the seeds turn on and start spreading. This is what happened in the movie, it was very straightforwards.
                >NOW all of a sudden Peter needs to be sent planet to planet to activate the seeds(Why? How? Why didn't it turn on when he was in the building? Why did he get shot down by missiles when he went to multiple places like Asguard who shoot spaceships from the sky?) He can use his powers off Ego(So he should always have it) but Ego can mind control him(Except no except yes except no not at all he never does that?) and Ego can use his full powers on earth(So he doesn't need to touch the seed he is the fricking seed, worst case scenario he just uses another one) and can activate them even without Peter(SO WHAT THE FRICK WAS THE POINT OF THE KIDS!?) But then Peter absorbs the seed so he will always have a part of Ego in him so he can keep using the powers(Which he's been doing the entire episode!) and he blasts Ego's body away
Meanwhile they could've just had Peter fight back, or escape, or the 80'svengers be the one to beat Ego, it's not like he's invincible off his planet in the movie. Rocket blasted his form to a skeleton ON Ego. They added in a ton of stuff that made no sense, needs explaining, contradicted the obvious, and still relied entirely on you watching that movie to know anything at all about Ego or his planet or what he's doing or why.

I think their explanation was that Peter only had powers on planets that had Celestial Seeds
His presence helped to activate the Seeds and he got Cosmic powers for as long as it takes to get close enough to the seeds
So Peter Absorbing the energy of the Celestial Seed meant he got to keep a small fraction of Ego's power

I think in GotG 2, Ego decided to activate every single Seed at once and needed Peter there with him to make it happen because Peter on Ego maximizes their power
So I guess 30 years of having and then killing his own children made him more impatient and he decided to get it over with all at once

                >I think their explanation was that Peter only had powers on planets that had Celestial Seeds
So he would've had the power on earth the whole time, which makes no sense. Also, doesn't make sense with his actual plan in the show, or movie, or just in general because either he's using Quill as wifi or he's using him to just turn the things on, which he could just do because Qull now has the powers always.
                >His presence helped to activate the Seeds and he got Cosmic powers for as long as it takes to get close enough to the seeds
The seed specifically and visually did not activate until EGO went down there personally, so even if this was their intention they fricked it up.
                > he got to keep a small fraction of Ego's power
He was just shooting shit the entire episode without it ever turning on, where was the original power coming from then? Ego said Peter was cutting him off and he went off to a carnival at the start of the episode.

                >I think in GotG 2, Ego decided to activate every single Seed at once and needed Peter there with him to make it happen because Peter on Ego maximizes their power
                Nope, see

Try to use this clip in context of the episode.

                >So I guess 30 years of having and then killing his own children made him more impatient and he decided to get it over with all at once
You know what the worst part of this is? Not only are you wrong, but Ego would've been giddy as frick for the majority of this episode because he wanted Peter to join him in turning on the seeds. In the movie he wanted to do it together, but even if they absolutely had to stick to this contradictory and poorly thought out alternative, Ego would've been right there Quill the whole time turning on seeds instead of the weird head thing. I mean, Peter can apparently use Ego powers off Ego, the one reason he didn't just go with him in the movie is gone, and Ego has full power off his planet in this episode, right? But no, can't even get that right and maybe have some conflict with Ant Man.

                God these writers suck.

Peter and Ego traveling together on a father/son thing activating the seeds might contradict the movie but that would've required far less explaining and could probably be handwaved away in some short fashion, I dunno Peter's carrying a rock or something. You could even twist it to say Ego could totally turn on every seed at once, but now that his plan is assured he wants to be there to see every planet become "him". He's gonna end up on the planet in the episode regardless, why not have him show up earlier and then make the majority be about having Peter realize his dad's a dick with Hank and Janet like the episode? Keep the teamup and everything, the fight's going to happen regardless. Ego sending Peter to personally flick switches and then revealing he can come down and just flick the switch personally and it still works is just bad writing.

                >So Peter Absorbing the energy of the Celestial Seed meant he got to keep a small fraction of Ego's power
So, the seeds have power, but also need Peter, who's being powered by the seeds, to turn them on, where they will get power from.. Peter? Wait no they're giving him power in this case. So are they getting their power to grow from... Ego? But if they can do that, why does Peter need to be in the equation? See this wasn't a problem in the movie. "Peter's genes are tied to his DNA so only activate Ego planet, Ego planet dies and his powers turn off forever because nothing to activate them" Boom, done, explains why he doesn't shoot shit everywhere and why Ego can't just turn on the seeds by himself. He has a reason to make kids, and a reason why he wouldn't know who's got the powerup on their home planet he put the seeds on, gotta be on daddy planet.

Then these writers come in and turn it into an infinite contradiction knot that breaks every angle you look at it. That takes effort.

One thing I liked about this episode is how they played with the timeline a bit. Not just by crossing over a lot of characters who were active at the same time, but my mixing character beats.

Hope and Pete both being kids in the 80s who recently lost there moms was a cool beat to work off of.

Wanda getting infected is less farfetched given her powers werent at the point she had gotten ridiculous just yet, thats just one bite needed when it broke out. With Thanos though? The guy literally got the time stone on him (Dont ask how he got that given Strange also became a zombie, i doubt Zombie Thanos peacefully took that) and managed to still get bitten and not just reverse it when he noticed somethings wrong.

She gets her Armor and the machine that destroys Infinity Stones at some point after this episode
So there's a chance that the melting staff didn't actually work on Thanos and Tony and Gamora had to retreat and come back later with new toys

Also, Thanos in the Cinematic Universe is weak as frick. Way more vulnerable than his comic counterpart.

Thanos in the What If? universes is somehow even weaker. Like there's apparently some random staff that can just melt him, Ronan actually succeeded in overthrowing him and apparently Cull and Proxima tag teaming can bring him down.

It really makes me wonder what the hell they planning to do with T'challa if Boseman had lived. The first two movies he appeared in revolved around him struggling to balance his anger and his sense of duty, which-he wasn't my favourite character, but it was fine?

But ever since that What If? episode, it's like there's some kind of in-universe attempt to retcon him into an infallible Black Jesus. Like if you want to talk about Shuri and anger/loss issues T'challa had those in spades from when his dad died. But no, Killmonger cameo.

Well one of those is still basically the most liked MCU main character even if not everyone likes the Iron Boy angle, while another has been such a bomb that her next movie tried to both downplay her and retcon her into a miserable frickup. I just really wonder if they were going to jump into T'challa being Black Jesus, or if there was at one point a more natural arc for him learning to figure out the best future for both Wakanda and the world at large-and his death was cynically used by marketeers to treat the character like a martyr for...some kind of mystery disease Wakandan medicine can't treat.

It makes the claim that Maw is a wizard seem even more out of left field, because at no point has MCU Thanos EVER shown the capacity to use magic otherwise even though you'd think he'd get Maw to make him a shitload of enchanted items or whatever. And no, the Gauntlet doesn't count even if it's made of uru. Anyone can use a sufficiently advanced gauntlet, Stark just build his own without any help from Strange.

The only thing MCU Thanos had for him was his super strength, which was on par with Hulk, except that he knew space martial arts so he could be more efficient at throwing punches.

I kind of assumed he built all his shit, but they never actually explain where he got the Chitauri, space whales, Outriders etc from. I guess he doesn't use power armour because he's a savage at heart who likes striding around swinging his sword, but they make it so easy to kill him with energy attacks in What If? you would think he'd have died a long time ago in the main MCU where the movies try to claim with a straight face that stopping him is a one in 14 million chance that you need a magic book that can literally defeat any one opponent to stop.

You can look at it as Hulk getting nerfed or other characters getting buffed, but he was getting nerfed since IM2 tbh. We went from a force of nature that could casually cave in an advanced space whale's skull to something Iron Man could fight with essentially more padding from metals available from Earth that aren't outright mystical like Vibranium. And Hela's wolf drew blood from him by biting, something it previously took the Abomination's elbow spike to the chest.

                10/10
I feel like with few exceptions MCU often has a fight scene just to have one, there's no real passion in it, no feeling of danger or actual violence. Just choreographed dance moves. I wish we could see an improvement on at least that front.

Kind of all of these, honestly. All of them are
        >Here's some pretty colors and decent fights
        >Do not think too hard about anything that's going on because it doesn't fit with the thing we're basing it on and also just doesn't make sense in general
        >Because that's a good sign, us telling you not to think about the story in an entire series dedicated to unique stories
I don't even know why they needed to contrive Nebula being the only one who can access the big thing because "She's a cyborg" when they could've just had her be a scapegoat in general. But then we couldn't break out this character who was the obvious betrayal before the next also obvious betrayal, no doubt spilling out hundreds of criminals into the streets in a time of desperation and all of them now armed with guns they ripped off the robots. It's already got no time to breathe so lets cram in something that doesn't make sense with the story to eat up more time.

But you see she did it to stop the big bad on a ship oops he's dead anyway all of this was pointless and Nova Prime could've solved it literally any time and also Neblua trying to stop her from activating the code was kind of stupid in hindsight her failure saved the entire planet.

I'd say that's pretty fricking stupid, but I suppose that's par the course with the MCU at this point with things like Carol being completely irrelevant in every space crisis ever, a random disease offscreening T'challa and the Asgardians (at least Thor) apparently knowing about the Eternals and never bringing them up. Not to mention the Eternals themselves not even commenting on Ego's expansion, Dormammu's incursion or anything you would think would logically interfere with their mission.

Ego is a Celestial but I think the implication is that he's basically a physically moronic member of his species. Probably one that never hatched properly or had a premature birth because he's just a floating brain that takes the form of a planet.

It would add another layer to his character if the reason he felt alone was because he was a god compared to most mortals and aliens yet he wasn't on the level of his own kind so he attempted to compensate by literally assimilating everything to his level.

        Anonymous

I'm satisfied with that explanation, I just wish they actually acknowledged it in a movie or series or something because at the moment it feels really weird now they're having Celestials be just kind of a thing everyone who's anyone i.e. a god, maybe aybe Thanos too, now Eros is a thing knows is still around in the universe. Instead of a long-dead race like Knowhere implied.

I think it was originally implied in GOTG, the Collector showed a vision of a Celestial using an Infinity Stone and the outtakes video where Peter and Ronan have an actual dance off has him say that Ronan has celestial blood (it's a joke video but the line seemed like an alternate take or a detail that got cut from the film).

            Anonymous

I'd love to believe you, but honestly I don't see it. I don't count things that didn't make the final cut, and what I did see in the first GOTG of Celestials was a video from what SEEMS to be implied to be the distant past given the context is how legendary the Infinity Stones are

Hulk was still a respectable force way into Phase 2. He was always treated as some kind of super-secret weapon that could only be unleashed in dire situations.
It was in Phase 3 when they heavily nerfed him and started to treat him as a joke character.

That is true, I would argue that late into Phase 2 they deescalated how MUCH of a weapon he was but you could still squint and Tony/the Avengers' threats just upgraded (and conveniently, him and Thor never had another rematch until Ragnarok so all we really know about Hulk vs Thor is they can stand and trade without Mjolnir being involved).

The pathetic husk of a "Grey Hulk" post-Infinity War feels like an attempt to consolidate the direction they wanted for the Hulk being tamed, without having to continue justifying it narratively

It would be interesting if Smart Hulk ended up becoming Maestro down the line in the MCU, I remember reading rumors that Dr. Strange was going to be revealed as the true antagonist of the multiverse saga because of his destructive potential. More MCU heroes should become villains, especially since Marvel is going to shift focus from the Avengers to the X-Men in the next decade.

The problem isn’t that they depict colonizers as “bad people” it’s that they depict the natives of the Americas as “peaceful and nothing else” natives constantly fought with each other over resources, land, and of course culture and beliefs. Atrocities always happened long before the first colonizer set foot in America. The scattered remnants of the natives are just salty since we wiped them out via superior technology and introduction of diseases they had no immunity to. Seriously, shit like chicken pox did most of the heavy lifting when wiping the slate clean.

EPISODE 6...FRICK ME. Woke Disney at its finest(?).
Native American girl, who's smarter, better, stronger faster than her brother, finds a portal to another world by accident. While she was running from the Conquistadors who invaded... New York State, looking for the Fountain of Youth. She learns about magical powers from a peaceful people, gets the powers, and of course, is already accidentally better at using them than any of the people there. She then decides to use her powers to destroy the white male "Monsters," (her word). Even after taking a cannonball to the face, she's still fine and kills the Main White Monster. Then she destroys two more Spanish expeditions, to New York State, and finally goes to Spain to tell Queen Isabella, I guess, to leave the New World.
GURL POWER and INDIAN POWER at its finest against the White Man. Damn, Disney.

Spoilers, the kid who has every power wins, and absolutely nobody wants to play with them. Whoop de shit, what are we supposed to take from this? What if one of them just had the power to fly, teleport and blow up people with their mind, they would've beaten the guys who won in real life? Nope, still focused entirely on her own tribe just like Wakanda only cared about Wakanda. Black Panther was A-okay attacking places outside of Wakanda if it was personal. All she did was use instant god powers to instant win a fight. What wonderful representation to say "If only we'd had the ability to shrug off canonfire, those spanish guys would've been fricked! I think a more interesting conclusion to this What If would've been Kahnari going full 'vengeance quest' after having her brother killed. Would've made her a more compelling character than 'bland mary sue who wants to help her people with her OP powers', especially in contrast to the other Magic Tribesman. Show her trying to master her powers day in and day out, then when the Spanishmen come, have her kill them in a rage, with the others refusing to go with her back to the normal world and sticking to it. After that, you can basically have her do the exact same thing she did in the episode, only with much more outright violence than what we got, rescuing her people and then taking her revenge on the Queen via an ultimatum or just outright killing her. Then have Supreme Strange show up in the stinger, introducing himself to a lone Kahnari, whose terrified her own people so much that she just decided to go full Lone Ranger, wandering the world.

I just think 'Kahnari Reshaped The World' would be a more interesting premise if it actually leaned into the 'angry demigod' angle. Rather than the Magic Pochahantas Disney Princess bullshit we got.

It never gets old looking back on all the predictions when it was announced as anons say the most outlandish predictions as to how hard woke they're going to go. And have them somehow exceed even the craziest shit.

Everyone, literally everyone knew it would be badly written gurl power white man bad, literally everyone called it, but even they didn't predict that bad of instant OP out of nothing and telling off the Queen. Ah, Disney, when you think they writing can't get any shittier, they remind you they are the most nepo of nepobabies.

      >but even they didn't predict that bad of instant OP
Looks like a lot of people predicted that actually, which isn't surprising after you know all of them all of them did that. All the Marvels just instant knew how to use their powers, what's her face from Secret War could instant use every power including the ones that the actual owners of those powers can't control, just all of them. All of them are the best and unstoppable without ever even trying. It's not just bad writing, it's predictably bad. You're such shitty writers people don't even believe you're capable of not fricking this up. They just instantly know how bad it's going to be and in what specific way you're going to shit it out.

Nothing was bad about this episode EXCEPT for the MC being super powerful and better at using her powers than everyone else...for some reason. We need more native American representation, we need more female representation, and I mean, Europeans did frick over the natives and the episode is set in colonial America.

The problem is that the writers speedran the character's adeptness with her abilities because of COURSE they would, because a female character can't just get powers and then have to struggle with them in 2023. They have to be pre-Crisis Superman with them right off the bat and anything otherwise would be a grave insult to women and sending them back to the kitchen.

Like someone else said iirc, the "What if?" scenario was Asgard falling and the Cosmic Cube falling onto Earth. Using the show to introduce a new character in and of itself isn't a bad idea so long as it's only done sparingly, since the whole appeal is seeing how shit would go down in the mainstream universe if certain things had happened differently.

          >They have to be pre-Crisis Superman with them right off the bat and anything otherwise would be a grave insult to women and sending them back to the kitchen.
Pre-Crisis superman literally had an entire series called Superboy dedicated to him figuring out how the frick his powers worked and 99 percent of the plots were either "Superboy can't use his powers well and fricks up" or "Superboy has to figure out how to fix thing without power".

His very first issue shows he grew up with those powers and showed he didn't know how to use them at first(In a single panel! just so you know those "But time!" complaints are bullshit) Doesn't matter though because the entire story is still shit regardless. This whole episode was just nonstop contrivance and instant fixing of every mild problem with cartoon badguys to fight. It would've been a bad story with a 10 minute training arc in the middle regardless and easily one of the worst of the series.

          >This whole episode was just nonstop contrivance and instant fixing of every mild problem with cartoon badguys to fight. It would've been a bad story with a 10 minute training arc in the middle regardless and easily one of the worst of the series.
I mean, it would've helped at least. One thing I HATE in a story is when the MC gets super powers or the same powers as everyone else and then instantly becomes 10x more powerful than them....because they're the main character so of course they have to be a living god.

Nope. What if some rando got super powers is not What IF. Cosmic cube should have fallen into the hands of an existing character or should have reshaped civilization, we should have tuned into the 21st century and seen how the heroes we know would be changed by having grown up in a world full of such power. The same way age of ultron is a backdrop to seeing such a change instead of being the center point of it all . House of M tried having a secondary key catalyst being a new character and it was most tacked on addition to the story.

We don't have a definite date for the confederation but it's possible it was founded, the episode happened in 1500's, the Spanish expedition was that far north because they were seeking the Fountain of Youth instead of gold.

Considering how badly written and narrativly masturbatory this is, the chances of it being anything other than Wakanda but native americans also with no stakes and just instant winning are 0. They're literally incapable of doing something else. They have shown time and time again they just plain can't manage it no matter how hard they try. They don't have the ability, they don't have the ideas. This shit? This is the best they can do, as awful as it is.

At some point we need to stop blaming them for failing and just accept the people approving this should not have hired someone this bad at their job in the first place. You don't expect a short guy to be great at slam dunking, you don't expect a writer for What If to be able to manage basic ass storytelling.

There's some nice potential here for worldbuilding with this episode. A very nice alternate history in a world without Asgard and thus without any peacekeepers within the realms.

Yeah, I'd like to see comic series or something dedicated to how this world would evolve. But I guess it would be too similar to 1602.

      >Only plus was that unlike fricking wakanda she deiced to do something with those powers
Showed you!"

Yes, that exactly what would happen if superpowers existed then. What the frick are you trying to argue?

        >Yes, that exactly what would happen if superpowers existed then. What the frick are you trying to argue?
Lack of stakes, lack of conflict, lack of sense, lack of question as to "What if?" It's a fundamentally broken premise because it offers no venues for anything interesting to be said or anything to threaten the main characters obvious and inevitable victory.

Disney continues to shock the world by showcasing that yes, there is in fact a writer so stupid they just said "Here's a character that has absolutely zero chance of losing because she got and instantly mastered a new magic powerup" and pretended this was a narrative instead of just a naked statement. Not only was there a writer so bad they just said "And then my new character wins and is the bestest, the end.", but nobody said anything. This is the level of idiot across the entire writers room. GodDAMN

Try and imagine being the one writer who understands even a basic ass bedtime story and wanting to speak up about how this is essentially just a writer jacking off an imaginary character for the entire runtime, only to realize you’d be arguing against making a native woman perfect in that bubble of a writers room. There are many depictions of hell across the world, few as dark an existence. God himself could not save you if you were a white guy in that room of stupidity

And then betrayed there allies and ALSO ruled as evil overlords.
It was literally the "Under New Management" meme.
And the triple alliance was never as dominant as the Spaniards was. So if anything it was replacing one group of buttholes with a much larger group of buttholes.

Of the season 2 episodes so far I have only liked episode 1. Which is weird because I was surprised by the first season turning out to be good. and I actually expected the peggy episode to be good this season (something KOTH could manage)

I haven't watched episode 6 through to the end yet because I was annoyed at them ripping off the conceit of assassins creed 3 (same actors too?), and making the spanish the bad guys

I'm not familiar with the MCU much at all (I thought the guy in episode 3 was an alternate universe tony stark until halfway through), so if this episode is actually based on a comic it's going over my head. if it's not, it seems totally pointless

You didn't like the 80's avengers teaming up to beat Ego and preemptively cuck Scott by giving Hope a childhood friend with god powers.

It didn't do anything for me because I didn't think the characters in it were interesting or different, and it didn't raise any tension under the "what if" multiverse premise because I knew the bad guy would lose and the team would assemble as usual
I didn't follow the MCU closely, and ant man and the wasp were some that I skipped, so if there was a particular depth to these alternate characters it went over my head. but I liked GOTG, and there it was just that young star lord is a less interesting character than adult star lord

        >VO in Mohawk language
I'm not even complaining that these concepts can't work or be re-used together, but it just seems lazy on Disney's part. The language part especially, since it just seems like a pointless flex, even though it's been done before, and there's no thematic or in-universe reason the voices should be in languages the viewers aren't familiar with. The Watcher presumably isn't reading subtitles over every universe he's observing where English isn't spoken?

So in the MCU there is
    >Wakanda home of super advanced African people who were never colonized
    >Ta Lo home of magical Chinese people who get powers from their Dragon Guardian
    >Talokan home of Aztecs who mutated and became Atlanteans to escape Colonization
    >Sky World home of Mohawk and other Native Americans who were empowered by the Tessaract and came back to end Colonization from Spain

    I wonder what's next

"Since Captain Carter — a woman — ended WW2, the feminist movement occurred immediately after the war," Bradley's thread reads in part. "This had a ripple effect across society leading to more female SHIELD agents, heroes, & women in positions of authority. (Check out the Strike Team at min 12) Since Peggy Carter wasn't around to found SHIELD, that responsibility fell to Hope's parents, Hank and Janet, and also Bucky, and his good friend, Howard Stark. All this lead to Hope taking on the Wasp mantle earlier."

Can't believe that Peggy Carter solved Feminism
