Was anyone besides me pissed off that the true story this is based on doesn't fricking exist. First off Adam Elliot, the man who wrote and directed this movie, did have a pen pal who was an autistic man from America but besides that and a few small details everything else in the movie was made up. There was no young girl, no suicide attempt, no book published, and the childhood depicted in the movie was almost nothing like the writer's actual one.
Seriously I can't be the only one who gets pissed off when writers pass off their fictional stories as having any modicum of truth to them.

Been a long while since I watched this but I remember liking it a lot. One of those "I wouldn'tve imagined this being so sweet" type of deals. I'm a sucker for sentimentality though.

If "based on the existence of a person who is kind of like the main character" qualifies that label then it is meaningless.
