It uses the cultural and political archetypes of the 50s, from mid-century modern aesthetics to raygun sci-fi to 40s-50s music to McCarthyism. Putting it on a different date doesn't change what it is meant to be. Changing the demographics of the archetype is naturally jarring to people because multiculturalism is not part of the 50s zeitgeist. Blockbusting, school integration, and general desegregation didn't happen until the late 60s and it brought with it a whole host of cultural ideas that are very unlike the tropes that Fallout uses.

Aesthetically faithful to the games with really impressive set pieces and solid special effects. That's basically it. The story and characters aren't really anything to write home about and the writing gets pretty clumsy at times. But it's fun to watch for the setting and the creatures.
