Masters of the Air

I was just browsing random Wikipedia articles, and I stumbled onto this.

Apparently, it's a continuation from "Band of Brothers and "The Pacific". It comes out in 10 days. It's also directed by Cary Frickungga.

What do we think about this?

depends on how involved the US military is
if they lent some support, they might tone down the woke since they need to stir some patriotism to boost recruitment for the coming world war

For WW2 kino you don't want to talk to the military, they will try to turn it into propaganda. You want to get input from historians and the very few vets who are still around. It's also based on a book like the other shows

I love both BoB and The Pacific. I watched them both when they first aired and eagerly awaited each new episode. I've been waiting so long for this series I stopped giving a shit. HBO dropped it years ago because because it was too white. Apple picked it up and stuck a bunch of black people in to it. I think it's going to be a CGI mess.

It's Apple, that company usually does an okay job at staying at out of social politics. It would hurt their brand and they like money unlike Disney

        Anonymous

Apple didn't write it, the same group that wrote BoB and The Pacific did. I don't mind them showing black pilots or soldiers, there were some. But based on the liberties they took to connect the characters in the Pacific to one another, I wouldn't be surprised if they invent a scenario where the black pilots are around when they otherwise wouldn't have been.

They were segregated, so if you think it will be remotely historically accurate I have a bridge in London to sell you, because depicting segregation is a resounding NOPE.

That was my point. The Pacific took a lot of liberties in terms of placing characters in places they weren't in real life. I expect the same for this. I really should read the book this series is based on before it starts airing. At least then I will know what to legitimately complain about.

          >I wouldn't be surprised if they invent a scenario where the black pilots are around when they otherwise wouldn't have been.

Red Tails were stationed in Italy. they would not have been escorting the 100th BG flying out of England to targets over Germany.

I'm now wondering if the black pilots story will be separate from the main story. I can see the "main characters" of the series coming across the black pilots during training, and then the story splintering off. Like how the Pacifc used the character of Sidney Philips to bridge the stories between Leckie and Sledgehammer.

              >I can see the "main characters" of the series coming across the black pilots during training, and then the story splintering off

if they have to include black pilots into a story about the 100th BG, then that's probably the best way to do it.

Yeah, I had no idea. Was just reading Wikis, stumbled on Cary Fukunaga, and found he's directing this. Never heard of Cinemaphile talking about it, so I didn't know it existed. I know The Pacific was hype as shit when it dropped on Cinemaphile.

I'll make threads for Masters of the Air on Cinemaphile when it airs if nobody does it.

I gave up hoping for this around 2015-16. Now look..black pilots, bad cgi, shit dialogue even by mid-2010's trailer standards. It left the last integrity network dying in a sea of streaming carcinoma. They saved it and sat on it for an era where white teenage boys won't die for Israel. Won't die for Ukraine. What the frick, compared to BoB this just looks like a typical sitcom intro where they play a bunch of scenes from various episodes. Just change the music to something more upbeat. And it doesn't hold a candle to the intro for The Pacific, which was basically the only good part.

I watched the whole thing finally during the Christmas weekend and liked it a lot more than I thought it would. It does have a whole episode where they are on leave in Australia that sucks but the rest of it was pretty good. Still not BoB tier in terms of the characters and story but the action and special effects were a huge improvement

        >It does have a whole episode where they are on leave in Australia that sucks but the rest of it was pretty good.
The bedwetting episode sucked too. And the one where he goes back home, beats up his girl's new boyfriend and everybody claps. Basically any episode with Leckie. Guy was a gay.

          Anonymous

Leckie is my favorite character and the episode where he pisses himself is great.

Episode 3 is bullshit though. They make it out like he fell in love and then got dumped by some greek girl. In reality in his memoirs he said he fricked 3 women in Australia and spent the majority of his time ducking the 3rd woman because she claimed she was pregnant with his baby. Not sure why they changed that.

Anyone who sees what's going on with the 3+ war fronts would think so. But the showrunner seems close with the family of the bomber pilots. Their kids + grandkids see this as not having their granddads forgotten after being sent to do sth ridic at a young age. High fatality rate. Ones who survived are pretty anti-war. Far more movies about israelites in camps only justify goys dying for them.
