It's been so long since I've seen it that I don't remember season 5 or 6 being bad as a whole, but the school setting was dumb.
The problem with the idea of setting the show in school is the cast. The EDs are all the same age, but Jimmy and Sarah are obviously a few years younger, while Rolf and Kevin are probably a few years older. They had the Eds go to a middle school, and crammed all the same characters into it, while adding no new characters. I can't even remember if there were any extras, or anyone even implied to be off-screen.
There were offscreen teachers.
We saw some arms in a few episodes.
The episode where Ed accidentally triggers Rolf's PTSD is set up as being about having pen pals, which means there are other characters involved, and Rolf's flashback has a guy in it.
And in the episode where Kevin is afraid of needles, there's a moment where you can see a file on another student who never shows up otherwise.
My point was that they wanted to use a school setting, while trying to change as little as possible from the earlier seasons, when the typical plot of the show isn't conducive to a school setting in the first place.

They put no effort into the school setting. It could have worked if they tried. For one they needed extra students, even if they are just silhouettes most of the time. The kids all exist by themselves in a vacuum where no one else is around and it makes so much of the plots make no sense. of course they also needed Teachers. Most teachers are just implied, otherwise again there is no one else there. You probably could have a created an extra full character that is the teacher and would have helped out the show.
Probably the only Kanker who could behave like a decent girl.

In their context I imagine it means shes the most likely to be "saved" from a life of behaving like trailer trash. A lot of her behavior is influenced by her sisters being around, and when shes alone she's a lot more mellowed out and just ditzy/dumb cute. As a bonus the valentines episode shows she's knowledgeable about things, just lazy about it.
