This. I just saw a giant ape fight in the last movie. What does even more apes offer me that Kong already hasn't? Gigan and Megalon would be a perfect antagonistic duo to test an uneasy alliance between Kong and Goji. Godzilla minus one was a very good movie imho. No hollywood marvel disney space garbage. Plot is obviously nothing new but they really tried to make the story special in the details. Honestly the acting was very moving and genuine. The side story with the pilot is also very profound and well done imho.
There are some silly moments like when the theme plays and when he damages the city, which made me cringe a little but I guess thats just part of the franchize.

I honestly think they can make these movies forever. Minus One proved that the Japanese don't need large budgets to satisfy enough Americans to make healthy profits. The Legendary movies purposefully hire B-List actors to keep costs down (GvK cost less than Black Adam). Until these movies become unprofitable,w which seems pretty far off, I suspect we'll continue to get lots of kaiju content, for better or for worse.

The human plot in 2014 is at least watchable to good when Cranston is alive. The human plots of KotM and GvK are dogshit from beginning to end, and the monsters are either covered up in weather effects (KotM) or they feel weightless when fighting (GvK). Any honest fan would rank the Monsterverse like this: Skull Island > 2014 > GvK > KotM (the last two are arguably interchangeable).

The Russell family plot is dogshit, the mom is arguably the greatest mass murderer in human history (still gets redeemed), Charles Dance is there just because of GoT hype, Ghidorah's alien backstory is wasted, Mothra and the Shobijin are wasted, and worst of all, the fights are bad (except maybe Rodan). GvK's worst sin is making the Hollow Earth the big focus of the franchise instead of aliens and wasting Mechagodzilla.

GvK's fights are better but everything else is much worse than KotM. If we were to compare the last twenty minutes of both movies GvK would slightly win but unfortunately there's an hour of dogshit before it. Not that KotM was good in that regard but it wasn't as bad.
