They're for throwing or to hit spear a charge. Too long to have a fight with.
>Too long to have a fight with
Black person what, the long reach and low skill required is what makes it good
Once someone is inside the reach it's too long.
how are you getting inside? also implying the spear guy is some stationary target lmao
It's a battlefield. You aren't keeping everyone out.
There is no getting in on a spearman who is alert to you. No anime maneuvers you fantasize about can foil simple rapid thrusting with footwork. Fights with blades are a bloody and dirty affair with none of the grace and choreography you see in
fiction. Range and efficiency is everything.
People mostly just had spears and fought in formations. So naturally there was no fancy choreography for those reasons alone. But eventually weaponry did evolve and change, same as armor evolved, they started to drop shields and go for two hander poleaxes, big two hander swords at the end of the middle ages.
The spearman can retreat and change his grip closer to the point, you wont be getting inside the range. He doesn't even have to do that because he can always move his spear to be in your way.
Thats what your mum said last night
Man, that is fricking stupid. But hey, this is Cinemaphile and this board has no idea of history outside of movies and television, so it makes sense.
the pikelines beat guns for long time
Well, it was mixed arms combat you had pike blocks, guns, canons and also cavalry. If it was just pikes and canons then pike lines would have had a hard time, but cav helped for flanking and mobility.
That and guns were not as powerful or accurate as they would become later.
bait. but very good bait
Oberyn did.
Another reason why kurosawa films are kino
Fantasy tend to be just not good on the aesthetic level. Even libshit themes aside, it's just tends to be boring and mostly inspired by other fantasy tropes instead of looking more into history.
Or it's just some crazy nonsensical shit with BDSM gear even though there is no good explanation for it.
Cum man haha
Indeed.

the most fearless and relentless warriors, powered solely by their hunger for CUM
>Croatian cavalry
>13th century
Croatia didn't even exist before ww2

Not to mention that ethnicity =/= state, to begin with.
never understood why dont we see any spears in any piracy or 1700-1900 boat warfare movie?
Too close quarters combat?
i get that if someone is entering the gunholes and the holes made by guns, youd not want one since its so cramped
but the vanguard on top?
They used spears to repel abordages, in the Age of Sail.
There are pikes in master and commander,
the spear is literally in every pre-modern war movie what are you talking about
If I was forced into a gladiator arena and had to choose a single weapon from a variety of ancient/medieval weapons, of course I'm getting the spear. What type of moron chooses a sword?
But let's hope my opponent doesn't know how to use a bow or sling. I'm going with a spear 'cause I don't know how to use them myself.
>put rock in
>point at person
>pull string back and release
Is it that hard?
do you really not know what a sling is? you think ancient armies were a bunch of bart simpsons running around?
it's seen as a peasant/grunt's weapon.
Knights also used spears or at least a type of spear - lance.
Unless you mean as seen by the popular culture, which is probably true. Sword was seen as more glamorous and mythologized even back then. Took more craftsmanship to make too.
Crossbows are better than spears
Speargays left katana weebs in the dust as the most irritating weapon pseuds, quite honestly.
>psueds
pole weapons were the dominant weapon throughout military history prior to the invention of reliable firearms and artillery and even then held out a pretty long time
Especially if you consider that spear morphed with the gun in form of the bayonet.
Note the word pole, not spear.
The average speargay is a pseud because he conflates all polearms as just another spear, then pretending that the advantages of all polearms mean that spears are the ultimate superweapon of the pre gunpowder world
not true at all. it was spears + phalanx until celts (and I think germans) superseded it with sword +board + javelins, the romans copied that after getting fricked by them and built their empire with it.
then heavy cavalry became dominant and polearms were obligatory to counter them but everyone still had swords because when ranks closed with other infantry their polearms became useless.
but i can get more points with my long stick in hema matches
hollywood is intentionally frivolous, low IQ and unrealistic
It's literally overseen by the DOD. Americans consuming state propaganda without knowing it
The primary purpose is social conditioning and keeping you placated and dumb
They don't usually have armies fighting correctly, it's just a disordered melee most of the time with enemy soldiers getting inside the enemy ranks. They also like to say "fire" when they are shooting arrows even though those commands only came around with guns, arches would just shoot at their own pace on enemy armies, shooting in waves like that makes it easier for them to prepare for incoming arrows.
I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the peasant with a spear.
Vita Leey
All you have to do is deflect a thrust ones (with a shield/sword or even just evade it) and cut the distance, then spear is practically useless.
>try to close the distance
>spearman changes grip so the point of the spear is in your face again
But more likely the spearman will just stab you with the free first strike you're giving him and end the fight right there.
Anime is not real life anon
I too played Dark Souls.
yes although not as easy as it sounds but even if he stabs you the spear man probably gets fatally stabbed as well. more realistically you are armored or shielded and then the spearman at best wounds you before you kill him, but of course that is 1v1 which is why they used phalanxes though those were of course countered too
If actual fighting translated to looking good on screen, most hand to hand would be wrestling and dirty boxing. Same thing applies to weapons. Sword fights simply look better on a screen.
>everyone else has long lengths of sharp metal
>here you go bro, here’s a little piece of metal on a fricking stick
>more metal equals more better weapon
dumbest post itt
btw if there are any fencing experts itt (fat chance i know) how real were the parrying daggers/swordbreakers? seems impossible to actually perform with these in a battle or even a duel. is it a meme?
They are a meme. I would straight up just use a rapier
Rapier and dagger/sword breakers has historical examples. Calling it a meme because its hard to do is silly. It's like saying horse archery was a meme because it was hard to do, people did it and still do it.
people forget sword fighting was an essential European martial art. knights trained their entire lives. there are a lot of manuals from the middle ages.
Halberd > Spear >>>>>> Sword >>> axe
Best weapon coming through.
Fantasy at least tends to focus on the more idealistic motifs of the Middle Ages, eg chivalry, duelling, up close combat, magic swords etc. of course they focus in on more heroic weapons like swords and axes.
Started watching the Dragonheart series yesterday. There's spears all over the place in the first one.
spears and polearms are top tier but don't turn into a "ackshually swords are useless" moron
>>no one uses this weapon
anime is such fricking trash jesus
do weebs really enjoy this shit?
mushoku is great
This out of context makes Mushoku Tensei look a lot gayer than it is. It's a great show outside of the weird Japanese pedo NEET pandering.
Spear fights are probably a b***h to choreograph, meanwhile fencing is still a fairly common skill among actors.
they're based irl but boring to watch in a movie
simple as
*cuts it on half*
*breaks your nippon steel in a single blow and then cuts your weak leather armor right off your chest*
spiky ball on stick chads where you at?
How hard could it be?
>this bullshit again
This “muh spear” is a fricking meme. Spears only work if there’s a thousand of them in a row. Otherwise a sword or a flail is a hundred times more effective.
>flail
That is a meme weapon that was almost never used in actual combat. What you mean is a mace.
patently untrue. trained spearman beats trained swordsman 9/10 times. swordsman just has no recourse against reach
this kills the spearcuck
This kills the swordcuck
nothing can, I agree
>this cuck breaks the cuck cuck
but not really though because you still needed to be heavily armored and have a sidearm. if you just had a polearm without those you'd get fricked like phalanxes
how is a sword more effective
Chivalry spear main tuning in here. Your grosse messers and double edged axes are no match for my superior speed, range and agility.
>babby version of mountain blade
git chambered spear cuck
*pokes you so you fall off a ledge to your death*
Nothing personnel kiddo
>spend 90% of mordhau match getting b***h slapped
>final bum rush occurs
>battle axe time
>jump to second or third on the leaderboard by swinging around like a moron on cocaine
>plays game made for morons
>confused why playing as a moron makes him win
Pottery
Chivalry is only for those with exquisite taste
I only played the source version, good times
OOOOOOOOOOOH SOMEBODY STOP ME
>boat movies
>WWII
>medieval weapons
do moids really
back to CC
Ah spear autism, nice to see some /tg/ cross pollination.
Anyway, autism aside I'm pretty sure spears are overrated. By far their greatest strength is in organized unit fighting. Which is inherently unromantic as it dehumanizes the individual as a expendable cog in a greater machine. Not the greatest stuff for cultural myth.
You want spear/polearm kino you need to watch more wuxia. Picrel is halberd kino.
