Kek, I remeber watching that scene with friends for the first time and all of us collectively spitting our drinks yelling "IS THAT A FRICKING YAMATO CANNON?" Such a simple, yet brilliant visual gag.
>What's a redhead? Why isn't she black? Also, the entire show should be told from her perspective and she should always be right. >Fatshaming! I also think he's asexual, we should focus on that more in the show. >That white cis man is mentally raping women, reeeee!!! Quick, turn him into a shy, biracial, latinx, non-binary, queer curious rainbow haired boy with they/xir pronouns! >Can't the robot win by talking things out? >We need less episodes focused on conflict and more episodes focused on every day quirky life of the main characters, all with relevant themes like glass ceiling and systemic opression of minorities! >Produced by Alex Rabinovitz (transman) >7 seasons total.
A producer for multiple CN shows, she also produced some episodes of Megas and I think she heavily supported the show despite the suits not wanting it/wanting to cancel it after 1 season.
I liked the core concept a lot and I think the visual design of the characters can be really unpleasant, but it was a sign of the time and the visual design of everything else like Megas itself is great, and kind of proof that the ugly, weird faces were because of industry trends and not reflective of the skill of the designers. I especially liked the look of Mega after being modified by Coop. The car as the head of the giant robot is funny in concept but also executed well and I liked the other ways he painted and styled the suit. The fins are an especially nice touch. It reflects the core concept really, he took a classic "giant robot" concept and added some "American Douchebag" flavor to make it his own. He literally did that with Megas, and the showrunners did that with "Megas XLR".
Any good place to find it online? I know Youtube has most of it axed or people having to put in random music videos mid episode to trick the system, but I never got to see the finale and I need it pure.
>people having to put in random music videos mid episode to trick the system
This is the most horrifying example of the golden hammer I've seen this year. Just find a torrent of some kind.
I think you should watch it. There's a reason why it's one of the most beloved mecha shows on /m/ - not just western shows, but mecha shows in general. Not only it's actually funny and action packed with great voice acting, sound design, music and score, it also features loving parodies of (among others) mecha anime, transformers, super sentai, kaiju movies and 60's sci-fi. Oh, and also Bruce Campbell. Twice.
It's a shame Megas never got a proper series finale, but the last few episodes make a good enough open ending that you can look past that.
Rare case when Cinemaphile is right about something being underrated. I used to not like this show and thought it was pretty eh, but I caught some old rips of it and it's surprisingly good and has a fantastic sludge/metal-tinged soundtrack.
Call me autistic, but I cut/edit/reorder episodes a bit in my folder to make it seem like the show had SOMETHING of an ending rather than the never ever cliffhanger.
Specifically, I have that season 1 episode where Coop supposedly beat the Glorft be the last one, then cut references to Null space in the rest of the show.
It's great. A loveletter to mecha shows that doesn't just shit on them or just point at references
Pretty much one of the most underrated CN shows you'll ever find. And like people have already said it's on top with references to anime culture.
This. The famous voice actor cameos were amazing too.
Visual gags also always on point.

one of the best shows ever made
I knew you were Evil but i had no idea
Pic related the only good thing about it
I loved this show. Such a shame it never got a season three.
I'd buy the series DVD to show to all my friends if it wasn't a tax write-off.
I would have to have friends to show them off.
Kino
You could never make a show like this nowadays. Mostly because modern animation seems to regard anything outside the west coast as nonexistant.
Also:
>Redhead female
>Obese main character
>Pasty white side kick
The diversity gays would freak out on Twitter for months.

what is the jest with Kelly Crews?
googling that just produces a lady

cool, thanks friend
What is he going to do to that poor Mega Drive?
What does Coop usually do?
So was Kiva supposed to end up being her own ancestor or something?
No. They save her ancestor in the Predator/Bounty Hunter parody episode.

Is it a blessing or a curse that the series was sold off
I think we could have gotten another 13 or so good episodes. Maybe a movie.
Really was ahead of its time
A slow circus but a circus nonetheless
Where did he get the money for all those missiles?

never watched it, I find the art style really grating
>literally judging the book by the cover
Shiggy diggy. Bad taste as well.

It's very "early/mid 2000s" but in a good way.

Gave me a size difference fetish
>Thoughts on this series?
WE DIG GIANT ROBOTS
It's great, I should give it a rewatch myself. It's been some years since I've last seen it.
Coop is pretty sexy.
