"Meh" Comics

Have you guys ever read a comic that by all rights should have been fantastic and genre defining but for whatever reason it just isnt? I think amulet is a pretty good example.

Animosity. There was clearly a lot of time and money thrown at what could have been a great comic but it's just not good in anyway beyond the premise.
The spin off had guy falling in love with an evil cyborg dog so that was pretty entertaining at least

I stopped reading around the bee arc. It always clear the writers had no clue what they were doing

What is this about? I've never heard of it.

A family gets caught up in some alternate dimension shenanigans and wind up participating in an interdimensonal war against snow elves and other stuff. It's not bad but it really feels like it's trying too hard if that makes sense. It ends up feeling very bland and by the numbers.

Oh wait shit you meant animosity. Sorry, all animals suddenly gain human intelligence and perfect memories and context for how the world works. Except for birds who all just act and talk like morons for some reason

I really like Amulet, at least the first few books.

Amulet reads like the author was dared to fit ever single YA fantasy cliché into a single story.

is the art style better than the cover page?

It gets better as it goes on. Seems he's better at drawing environments than characters.

He's like a furry artist only for landscapes and big monsters/machines. He forgot how to draw people.

Wasteland is the ultimate example of this. The characters, setting, premise, were all so good and there was so much fricking effort poured into it for 10 years only for the actual plot to let it all down. It wasn't even bad just incredibly unremarkable. Wasteland could have been on the sane level of something like TWD or even Hellboy but instead it's completely forgotten about.

The art is great for a horror comic.
Now if only the writer was someone other than Snyder, because all the mediocre shit comes from the writing.

I'm convinced that one of the main reasons western comics are in such bad shape now is because theres a cosmic law that prevents a good artist and good writer from working together for more then five minutes at a time lest the world be ripped asunder.

I remember thinking Amulet was the shit when I was a kid, but I've only read the first 3 issues and basically only remember the last page of the third, so I get the feeling it might not hold up to my adult brain.

I'm going to get back into it, and read the entire Amulet. Just to spite you.
