I'm a millennial and I found it funny 20+ years ago. People weren't as cynical, jaded and depressing as they are now. There was a lightheartedness to media which is mostly gone now, replaced with ULTRA GIGA EDGY LOOK HOW MUCH I DON'T CARE nonsense.
Yep, I watched Airplane a couple of months ago and it didn’t hold up at all outside a couple of moments. I wish I found it funny but boomer humor like that fell off hard. I think Blazing Saddles still works because it’s relatively edgy and that’s in these days.
Airplane didn't hold up for me either, but showed a zoomer girl The Naked Gun and she was dying. Like she had never seen a straight comedy movie in her life, and I realized she probably hasn't.
spaceballs sucks, probably because im not a star wars fan to find the references funny
blazing saddle is a little slow but its content reachs top tier levels
young frankenstein is good
>probably because im not a star wars fan to find the references funny
Spaceballs doesn't actually have very many Star Wars references, oddly enough. It has visual similarities, some plot similarities, but you could easily not watch Star Wars and still understand Spaceballs just fine. Humor is strange, I still ROFL at Monty Python & the Holy Grail but Life of Brian which everyone swears by puts me to sleep.
also keep in mind - space balls failed because of what it tried to piggy back off of
Foundation came first
Dune next
Lucas said - "hmm ill call my desert planet tattooine and ill my cruisers Coreliian starships and ill call the local music jizz"
then some hook-face israelite tried to wipe his ass and make americans laugh - israelites failed
mel brooks should stick to what israelites do best - haunt europe and make movies about frankenstein
I don't think Mel Brooks got sci-fi in the vein of star wars. He was too old even back then. That's why he can parody broadway shows, western, Hitchwiener and monster horror movies. Spaceballs is upper mid-tier at best and probably his most overrated movie
the campfire scene from this, and the dream sequence from dumb and dumber when he fights the chef are the only times a movie made me laugh so hard i actually pissed a little.
This. Spaceballs suffers heavily from bad delivery among other things. Ice Pirates manages to use almost the same plot with even less jokes and still comes across funnier and they're not even Zucker.
I've literally tried watching Space Balls in like 4 different instances but I get so fricking bored by the time it gets to the merch scene. Its the only Mel Brooks movie I haven't watched completely.
A glorious hack.
Maybe you should watch a wooden allen film in an art house theater and choke out your pretend forced laughs.
Sounds more like your speed
spaceballs sucks dick
too israeli
Well it was in a time where it was common to make fun of israelites in popular media, Mel Brooks is famous for this
robin hood men in tights was better
spaceballs is just a cynical cash in
moichendizing moichendizing!
That’s the whole point. Let me guess: you didn’t like the Scary movies either
you're not a hack as long as you do that one thing extremely well, which he does.
man i love the part with the radar guy fricking with them and then dark helmet just loses his shit and starts tearing up the console
I like the way he says "That's not all he's lost" so discreetly, like he doesn't want to offend the guy
made me laugh just remembering it
pizza the hut or whatever is the most disgusting thing ive ever seen
Bait thread. Cinemaphile is a Spaceballs loving board
>silent movie
>In color
Hmmm..
Probably his worst film besides Dracula. Its a cute joke, but not enough to carry a whole feature film with.
Dead an Loving It is better than Men in Tights.
I didn’t like Men in Tights either so thats not saying much.
Does anyone like Men in Tights? even Dracula seems to have fans.
are you gay
Cary Elwes is the only man I'd be gay for.
homosexual
It was wholesome for a 70s film, I'll give it that

WE AIN'T FOUND SHIT!
Did boomers really find this funny?
I'm a millennial and I found it funny 20+ years ago. People weren't as cynical, jaded and depressing as they are now. There was a lightheartedness to media which is mostly gone now, replaced with ULTRA GIGA EDGY LOOK HOW MUCH I DON'T CARE nonsense.
I feel like honest humor like this just doesn't work anymore. Everything has to be behind 100 layers of irony and self-awareness now.
everybody thinks they're too smart for slapstick
Or it's just not funny.

Honest humour does work, zoomers are just homosexuals
Are there any American films, I mean actual American films that doesn't involve israelites kiking everything up
do statues really have qr codes now?
I guess. So you can look up information about or or some dumb shit.
haha imagine replacing it with a link to goatse
or an ebook of the turner diaries
>They replaced Thomas Jefferson with this.
SHEEEET
At first, I thought it literally was shit.
It is, but metaphorically
They could have at least made it life-like
Who likes this crap? How does stuff like this get built?
Black folk love being pandered to and Black folk are americas religion so of course americans will do everything they can to please their gods
spaceballs sucks, probably because im not a star wars fan to find the references funny

You obviously have not met Bigus Dickus.
spaceballs was the first of many outside attempts to dismantle george lucas
including the ewok caravan of courage
and christmas special
george didn't plan for these
but the israelites did when george didn't go by the code and include credits in the opening to Star Wars 1977

blatant product placement

terrible movies yeah
WE AIN'T FOUND SHIT is unironically the best joke in the whole movie so congrats on getting filtered
counterpoint
i watched Young Frankenstein last night and it was pretty funny but the last 1/3 is mostly humorless
For me it's
the campfire scene from this, and the dream sequence from dumb and dumber when he fights the chef are the only times a movie made me laugh so hard i actually pissed a little.
spaceballs has more believable sci-fi than modern star wars
Are all of the posts in here ironic or did all of these people really get filtered by Space Balls?
Spaceballs was never funny.
Zucker brother movies are funny to this day.
This. Spaceballs suffers heavily from bad delivery among other things. Ice Pirates manages to use almost the same plot with even less jokes and still comes across funnier and they're not even Zucker.
