I mostly liked it. It was definitely not boring and kept me engaged. Pretty photography and Rory Kinnear killed it.

I think that it just fell apart in the final moments because it didn't earn that reveal. The whole messy divorce plot felt like a completely different movie.

The way I would've done it is to have it be about a woman who was raped. She kind of sees the guy, kind of gets enough of a description for police to make a sketch. They can't find him and she wants to leave London for a bit. When she goes to the country, she finds out that he's been caught. So she's super relieved and gets to enjoy the country.

But then she sees a man who looks just like him. Then more men. And then the rest of the plot pretty much stays the same.

The whole point is that all men are dangerous and you're literally never safe as a woman.

But her husband threatening to kill himself if she left him, idk. Do men actually do that? That sounds like something women do more often. It's definitely more about mental health issues than about typical male behavior.

you've clearly never met a BPD male. easily the most evil people on the planet and there's no hope for them they should just kill themselves.

Right, so that's a BPD problem. Amber Heard did the same shit. It's not exclusively a men problem. The husband punching her, now that was a men problem.

BPD men are worse than BPD women. both are scum but the men in this case actually have the physicality to back up their anger.

Frick this movie for pretending it is

The filmmaker is a simp at heart and it shows in his movies, and his love for Oscar Isaac.

Every review is talking about how it’s symbolism for toxic men

Threatening suicide is a feminine trait
Male BPD is a sigma by default if it’s not a feminine covert narcissist type
        >interesting
        >wild
Truly blessed to have this ‘illness’

          >Threatening suicide is a feminine trait
you would be suprised how often men use that to pressure b***hes to stay in a relationship especially when they are younger
i would agree though that it sounds more like a female thing

      >struggle with mental health, suicidality, anger management issues
      >see aspects of myself in the husband character
been working on improving for many years now, but god damn this hit

      >Men threaten to kill themselves

Work in the crime statistics field. It happens all the time, usually from "non violent" males. Women do it too though, but not as often, and usually not as severe.

I was hoping it would subvert my expectations of being about how all men are bad. It didn't.

Alex Garland is one of the few directors consistently giving us great art

Is this the anti male pro racemixing propaganda shit?

There's not much to talk about. Garland really dropped the ball with this one and it's a shame because it could've been a perfectly creepy supernatural movie. Go read about the green man instead, it's much more interesting.

And it has notging to do w the way Garland clumsily tried to make it fit into his pos woke movie

Was a bit boring. And if the theme truly was "all men bad" then it was served in the most hamfisted way. I would either want for the movie to lean fully into the mythology or the social commentary side. Now the result is just some unsatisfying mess in the middle.

It decides it wants to be like mother! just for the third act and it comes out of nowhere. Even worse, it just doesn't work.

I like Jessie Buckley's acting, but this was a bad choice for her.

It was great until the finale wehre it falls apart, or am I just a brainlet who didn't understand?
Did the ending actually happen? Did this creature really die and rebirth over and over in her house? Was it all in her head somehow?
