Boring ass basedshit that obviously a24 would distribute. I thought britshits were supposed to be subtle and understated when it comes to their comedy and parody. Garland is so fricking gay but yuropoors eat his shit up lmao

Awful. Good cinematography but ultimately no plot: beneath the folk horror veneer, it's a pathetic "all le men bad" non-story.

You could be simply too distracted. Even with shitty movies such as this one, attention is always rewarded.

while I was watching, it gave me the unsettling feeling she was supposedly getting. I could tell something was off, beyond them acting weird, but couldn't tell why.
anyway, didn't enjoy the movie, except for the visuals at times and Jessie Buckley.

As soon as the mc arrives in Cotson the movie goes into unreliable narrator mode: the same actor playing different roles is meant to highlight the unsubtle, midwit idea that "all men are equal".
I agree w you, Jessie and cinematography were the movie's only 2 good aspects.

It literally attempts to imply that ALL men are bad and in different ways persecute/harass women throughout history since Adam. That's it.
It tries to disregard the instances in which women and weak in general have been protected by men and paints every single male character negatively.
It also tries to dismiss institutions (police, Church) as sexist, again disregarding the countless cases in which women were and are protected by them.

And he got worse in the sense of subjugating whatever creativity he had to these heavyhanded woke talking points and false tropes.
Almost an attempt to submit and be "accepted" by the current Hollywood establishment.
Ex Machina at least had a subtle point in that the robot's decision, though heartless, was logic-driven within that specific story.

yeah that's true. what is he hoping for? to direct a Marvel movie?

Be part of the current system and/or at least be spared from being cancelling attempts/ostracism because he is (oh noes!) a white man.
Chickenshit directors/screenwriters such as Garland are kowtowing to the insane sjw mediocrities that are currently sinking Hollywood.

    >movie about male female relationships
    >it's about "toxic behaviour"
    >every single time that means women are pure but the men in their life are bad and ruin their life
I miss movies like The War of the Roses were both parties are making each other lifes hell. I bet in reality she was a huge c**t

I personally think that toxic masculinity is a real thing and a problem, but so is female one. its interesting that only the male one is seen as a big deal though even though female manipulate and torture their surroundings just as much as men.

      >I personally think that toxic masculinity is a real thing and a problem, but so is female one.
You're using leftist terminology to define the concept of generally bad people. There is no "toxic" anything. Just shitty buttholes from all walks of life. Please stop using "toxic" to describe fricking anything negative. Expand your vocabulary a little bit.

their definition implies a "learned" toxicity. things like men not being allowed to cry, in general being rewarded for being agressive, etc. of course they do get rewarded by women also and there is also "toxic" behaviour in women like girls not getting the same ammount of punishment as children or getting praise for half assing things because its cute but when a boy does it he gets scolded for not trying harder

Now you're just discussing social mores and taboos. Again, you're pigeonholing your thoughts about the world using leftist rhetoric as a template. Expand your thought process. Think back to what you learned in elementary school. You'll find that twitter does not have to be the foundation of your worldview.

the movie had some good creepy moments. it would have been much more interesting if it leaned more into the folk horror and just been subtle about some of the themes
