Smart move probably, low budget horror movies usually turn huge profits.

They confirmed they want to do big budget action films now because Beau Is Afraid lost them so much money

They should have seen that coming from the title. No one is going to go see a movie with that name.

They didn't get the movie rights, they won the TV rights. They're already doing a Friday the 13th tv spinoff called Crystal Lake and they're gonna do one for Halloween too.

How many times are they going to reboot this shit? What's even left to do at this point with Halloween? There's been remakes, there's been reboots. There's at least 4 different timelines that I can recall from the top of my head. I mean, I get it, it's an easy profit. I just don't see any angles left to exploit with this franchise.

      >I just don't see any angles left to exploit with this franchise.

They could try again what Carpented intended

      >The film departs from the slasher genre of the other installments, instead featuring a "witchcraft" theme with science fiction aspects. John Carpenter and Debra Hill believed that the Halloween series could have been an anthology series of films that centered around Halloween night, with each sequel containing its own characters, setting, and storyline. Director Wallace stated there were many ideas for Halloween-themed films, some of which could have potentially created any number of their own sequels, and that Season of the Witch was meant to be the first.[citation needed]

If they wanted to do that they could have easily done it without buying the license.

all that's left is to do cross-overs. Jason vs Michael. Michael vs Freddy, etc

      >What's even left to do at this point with Halloween?
Exactly what Carpenter wanted done after III, a series of spooky stories set around Halloween. And that’s exactly what we’ll never get. 4 and 5 are alright movies, but imagine if instead of all the sequels we got 10 unique horror movies as good as Season of the Witch.

Or they could just make halloween themed movies without wasting money on an expensive IP

          Anonymous

Theyre buying IP's BECAUSE they don't make enough money off original movies. They tried that for a decade

            Anonymous

So slapping the halloween IP on a bunch of unrelated slop won’t magically make them any more money. I don’t think Halloween Ends even did that good at the box office.

The last halloween trilogy crossed $500 m worldwide despite being shit. That's pretty much what the top 10 all time biggest A24 releases have made combined. Their biggest original horror movie Hereditary made $81 m.

I think the time has passed, yeah, but the point was you had a production company geared to do that and they would be scored by Carpenter, rising them above what you call “slop.”

A24 is meme nowadays and hasn't put out a good film in the last 3 years

Honestly, what's the point? They made so fricking many of these things already already, did the modern reboot thing already, and then brought it back again full circle to do an unbooted callback. Whatever potential it might have had has been exhausted and then some. This isn't even beating a dead horse, it's beating a puddle of goop that used to be a dead horse ten years ago

And honestly, there's really nothing all that special about Michael Meyers. He's a psycho in a mask whose backstory is "evil." Just invent a new psycho with magic plot armor
