Midwit here. Explain to me what makes this movie so special. It's a good movie but I wouldn't put it in my favorites list, what am I not seeing?

It's about the lust for greed and power that lies dormant in every man's soul, waiting to erupt into a frenzy, and shows just how much we'd have to be willing to sacrifice in order to dig into the deepest parts of our desires.
Also Daniel Day Lewis is kino.
It’s about how America was built on religion and enterprise, and how these things can easily be corrupted
Le earth is crying black tears bcuz le greedy black tear seller man. Le end.
>t. le homosexual
Weird, usually it's the midwits who jerk this movie off.
DRAINAGE
>oil well explodes and fire comes from the ground
>OIL IS...LE DEVIL???
Yeah, I don't get it either.
DDL performance is best of 21st century, Dano one of the fewactors ever to hold his own against him
Milkshakes are evil.
On first viewing it didnt do much for me, I thought it had alot of good performances and visuals, but it didnt click for me. Think I've seen it 5-6 times since it came out and is in my all time favorites list.
Just come back to it in a year and you'll pick up on so much you didnt see the first time around.
>Just come back to it in a year and you'll pick up on so much you didnt see the first time around
like what?
Well for one thing your expectations will be pretty low. I've only seen it twice and I admit I liked it more the second time which was 15 years later.
I'm not even going to waste time trying to give you some comprehensive analysis of themes and performances or directing because you're in some contrarian mindset right now so you'll just disregard anything I have to say. Just leave the film alone, forget about it, revisit it in a year or two when it suits you.
I'm not saying you're going to have some epiphany, but you'll appreciate it more for what it is.
you picked up on so much and you can't even name one fricking example? you're so full of shit. also, asking you to elaborate doesn't make me a "contrarian".
that doesn't answer my question at all.
>asking you to elaborate doesn't make me a "contrarian".
No but making this thread and throwing a hissyfit over some film you dont get why people like, probably makes you one. Like I said, nothing I'll say will change your mind on the matter so why should I bother wasting time on it?
Go watch some pretentious youtube analysis by some squeeky voiced 21 year old who've spent more time in discords than outdoors.
I didn't make the thread, you fricking dipshit. I'm the 10th IP. Anyway, I accept your concession.
>Anyway, I accept your concession.
Cool
>greed can be bad
>religion can be bad
>dont be an butthole it wont pay off in the end
powerful stuff
if you have a sneedshake, and I have a sneedshake, and I have a chuck, there it is, it's a chuck, you see? Watch it. Now my chuck reaches acroooooooossss the room and starts to feed your sneedshake. I... feed... your... sneedshake. I feed it up!
underrated
its pretty
solid story, acting, serious tone, gravitas, doesnt pander, nice visuals
>serious tone
>doesn’t pander
Pretty much nonexistent in modern Hollywood, which is why I appreciate it so much when I see it
Old Man Bandy was God, right?
I hate you.
Yes, that's why the young boy, Jesus, went to go find Daniel.
traditionalist family value > israeli capitalist values
the nascent religion of america wasn’t christianity but soulless materialism which operated through capitalism. the priest in the movie fundamentally agrees with the oilman on everything ideologically, he’s just weaker than him and gets outcompeted. the entire thing is a redpill on how amerimutt society is inherently modernist and anti traditional, even it’s so called religious ties to tradition are tainted by secular enlightenment values.
