        Same and that's because it was so heavily marketed as a "made for 3D movie" that I swore it off immediately. It wasn't until it was piratable that I realised my mistake. Now Carl urban is stuck doing the boys. If I had known it'd lead to this I woulda watched it in theaters multiple times

        It turns into Event Horizon at the end actually, but it was fine. It was all set up before and made sense with the story, I think everyone was just in a general Boyle froth at the the time, wanting him to make the movie they were expecting.

      OP is probably a delusional Gen Xer, but the part about the sci-fi thriller renaissance actually is true. Around 2010-2014 you had a ton of these kinds of movies (Looper, Inception, Snowpiercer, Edge of Tomorrow, etc.)

      I think they may have been riding off of the success of Avatar.
