      moments that make men cry?

Van Gough's problem was never that he was underappreciated. He was just mentally ill. Same with Nietzsche. Same with Hemingway. People like to romanticize the misery of historical figures because they don't want to be faced with the meaningless mortality of man.

        Anonymous

You don't think living in poverty, eating poorly, poor physical health contributed to his declining mental health?

        >Nietzsche
His disease consisted of migraine, psychiatric disturbances, cognitive decline with dementia, and stroke. Lots of causes have been proposed, most commonly syphilis, but mental illness is not one of them.

        >Hemingway
Also plagued by various health problems plus brain damage from 2 consecutive plane crashes.

        >He was just mentally ill.
Is the laziest most useless explanation ever. Even in the absence of physical illness it hardly means anything. Yes, people tend to romanticize this stuff but I'd say trivializing it is way worse.

there was no rich guy buying his paintings. He just had a rich supportive family.

Most modernists and impressionists came from rich families because no one wanted their art at the time.

It’s so ironic how you’re this best supporter of these mythological ideologies of tough pure men making it all perfect by some system they work on and yet what you give away resembless a shill or a child. A shill is another thing but a person without no experience of this world shouting his chants for some team, that’s just moronetness and makes me hate the democracy (everyone can have a voice). Oh I get it, how funny. Time’s running out and now more than ever the focus should be pristine but no. The fricking shit storm tarnishes the vision

Don't forget that Hemingway was literally and unrionically being surveilled by the FBI over them thinking he might be a communist or have some kind of connection with the Cuban regime. They were horrible at their job so he realized someone was following him around and going through his stuff. Nobody believed him.

      Fixed point in time.
Van Gogh was already mad, and it was likely due to whatever it was that caused him to see everything in such vibrant colors. That and the invisible alien that only he could see.
It didn't help that his brain was so addled and wine soaked from drinking all of the time. Dude was a self defeating mess of self medicating with alcohol to come to terms with the fact that he could see "imaginary colors and creatures" that even the Doctor couldn't see.
Amy and the Doctor merely gave him a few happy memories and hope before it became too much for him to handle as nature continued it's course.

BB had constant stakes and momentum. BCS is a prequel so you knew where everyone would be in 5 years. The tension came from the character relationships, but the characters just weren’t interesting. Chuck and Howard were so awful I was only watching to see how they would die.

Because we, through the viewing of the rest of the film, know it is doomed to fail. We know how the story ends past the ending of the movie. You're genuinely really stupid.

No, the film shows them regretting trying to erase their memories and telling each other to meet up again. Then they decide to try again after they learn what they dislike most about one another.

It's implying they are going to try to fix their old ways and continue on. It's basically couples therapy. It's what every guy dreams about with their ex. Did you even watch the fricking movie.

Not that anon but wouldn't their mutual awareness of their past and mistakes at least mean they can try to avoid the same pitfalls. Ignoring of course what I believe was an intended scene of an older Clementine and Joel erasing their minds

Unlike Howard and Mary where she forgot and he didn't bother avoiding shit so they were doomed to repeat the same way.

                Anonymous

They don't have "mutual awareness of their past and mistakes", they have some minor factual knowledge of the fact that they were once together. They don't have enough evidence or access to their old memories to understand the nuance of their personalities or meaningfully learn from it.

                Anonymous

The viewer has the understanding that even though they had faults they ended up not caring about them and regretted trying to erase one another completely.

The characters have a recording of the things they didn't like about one another and can change their old ways.

It's the "knowing they have faults but in the end their love mattered more than their mistakes" that makes it a supposed happy ending. I don't know how you can ignore that part completely.

                >The characters have a recording of the things they didn't like about one another
They're mostly superficial things though. It doesn't address the root of the problem, which is that their personalities don't mesh long-term and they generally want different things from life. I guess it's left ambiguous but the looping of the footage at the end suggests more strongly that they're doomed to never end up properly together.

He sets himself on the path for yet another heartbreak. That isn't a happy ending. You're just too much of a virgin to understand it. You view the film through the lens of your "I wish it was me" projection and can't see the forest for the trees.

Not that anon but wouldn't their mutual awareness of their past and mistakes at least mean they can try to avoid the same pitfalls. Ignoring of course what I believe was an intended scene of an older Clementine and Joel erasing their minds

Paul Harrell is one of the original YouTube guns and outdoors type content creators, his oldest channel is from early 2010. He is also one of the only good ones, perhaps the only good one left, and /k/ basically views him as their experienced and knowledgeable great uncle or surrogate father as the other anon said. He very rapidly deteriorated since last summer when he announced he has pancreatic cancer, and his last two videos have been about handing the channel off to his brother, his own children and his nephews. His most recent video, he just dropped matter-of-fact that this may be the last time he is on camera. A lot of normally not emotional people shed a tear or two over this.

I think he knew from earlier because of the "right-handed don't hold with their left" comment; so he probably saw a bunch of inconsistencies about Vincent but kept quiet the whole time.
I always thought that scene was real humbling since Vincent thought he did it all by himself, with his own sheer willpower, and he realizes at that moment that he had a lot of help from others that wanted to see him succeed like the Doctor, Jerome, and Cassini. That's what always gets me emotionally each time I watch that scene; that realization of humility when other people have been pulling for you that you didn't realize. My favorite scene.

This happened to me as a teenager, except I didn't have much empathy at all and I could be quite nasty to other kids. I used to get 'excited' over creatures (animals or humans) being in distress. I don't know how I'd describe it other than it feeling similar to the butterflies rising up your chest sensation you get when you talk to your crush, it's pleasurable but in a perverse kind of way. One day it was like a switch was flipped and it became the polar opposite, now I'm overly empathetic to the point that it's debilitating, it's almost like I feel physical pain in my chest when I sense any sign of distress in other creatures. It sounds so dumb but it was like I downloaded a software update which fundamentally altered my perception of the world drastically overnight. I'll never understand what the frick that's all about

Daily reminder there is 0 evidence dude killed himself beyond his own word.
    Dude didn't own a gun.
No gun was anywhere near where he says he was.
Was shot in the gut at an incredibly awkward angle.
Claims to have shot himself, packed up his painting supplies, hidden the gun, and walked miles back to his home without somehow dying.
Local kid had been seen showing off his dads gun and shooting things.
Kid is sent away for YEARS the day after he dies

Dude was accidentally shot by a kid fricking around with a gun and made up some bullshit about shooting himself because he didn't want to ruin a 10 year olds life.

    Dude was incredibly based.
