"MOM'S GONNA FREAK"

Holy fricking cringe. Have modern actors forgotten how to give "le crazy psycho man" performances? There hasn't been a good one in years.

Dano's Riddler was the most cringe inducing performance I have seen in a capeshit.

I've genuinely experienced people like this throughout highschool and college. I'd say he got their cringe spot on because if you wound them up enough that's how they'd act.
I had some great times winding up these dude's during ICT and Business Studies. A lot of the times they'd go really red in the face end up punching themselves repeatedly, to which the teacher would shout at them lol.

The problem is that while he's doing this, the music is getting all brooding and dramatic and Batman successfully lets himself lose his cool over this dork. It should be the moment Batman sees just how pathetic he is, but it's the moment he's getting BTFO.

If this movie steered into Riddler and Batman being cringe but somehow super competent, this could've been interesting. But it tries too hard to be taken seriously at the same time that it undercuts itself. It looks sillier as a result.

Batman is also cringe and he cleans up his act in the end realizing he can't just be that brooding butthole dude beating up random thugs, he needs to do something positive and to inspire people, otherwise he's just a less ugly Riddler.

Do you really need to explain that to people? That was his entire arc, it wasn't subtle at all riddler literally said "you complete me" and it made batman realise he's a cringe incel like him.

Real psycho mass murderers are also pathetic dorks. You see, people who enjoy social interactions (you’re excused) have been influenced by real life. We are conditioner to view "le epic psycho" as a larger than life charicature from an older time.

Cringy Cinemaphile autists are the scariest people on the planet to most normies. After a decade of Elliot copycats, we have been conditioned to cringe *and* fear people with those traits.

Try polling any sub-40yr demographic and ask them who they find more frightening - Dano’s Riddler, Ledger’s Joker, Anton Chigurh or Hannibal Lecter.

The latter three come off as cool/larger than life, the first triggers real fears people have.

          >The Riddler’s character is an autistic incel.
          >So depicting that with a good performance that captures an autistic incel is wrong?
Ignoring that they re-wrote him that way because they wanted to depict that, it's fricking dreary material defended under the guise of realism which is the #1 defense of hacks.

This shit is old hat in gamedev which is why I mentioned it, where they would make the most inane plot points and add in ugly brown n bloom scenery and take teatiful women models facescans and make them look like bogged trannies because fuglies are supposedly "realistic".

Rewrote? b***h, obsessing over riddles and showing intellectual superiority over the police IS autism incarnate. There’s no other way to depict such a guy.

As it so happens, autism manifests quite differently in 2020 compared to 1950. An autistic guy back then would be the quiet nerdy accountant at your office.

An autistic guy now is an unwashed groyper on Cinemaphile

            >Dano’s Riddler, Ledger’s Joker, Anton Chigurh or Hannibal Lecter.
The answer would Chigurh. Only Lecter and Joker are viewed as "cool". Riddler is seen as a joke.

              Anonymous

Chigurh was scary in 2006 when the character seemed realistic. Today he is an interesting spectacle, but doesn’t illicit a visceral disgust like he did back then. Ysee, a lot of sociology and understanding the zeitgeist goes into writing movies.
There’s a reason we haven’t had any memorable villains in the past decade. It’s because we’re socially in a weird period where it’s difficult to create cultural consensus about negative characteristics.

We saw the same in around 1920-1930s, the world didn’t have a strong unifying narrative to rally behind.

It's about him realizing he's taken the incorrect mentality to his fight against crime, but it's not him realizing that being an autist who dresses like a Bat and growls at people is cringe.

          >It should be the moment Batman sees just how pathetic he is
That's not how it's written, it's literally the moment Riddler realizes that he overestimated Batman twice. Once that he is on his side and two that he saw through his plan. But dumbo Batman had no fricking idea about the bombs. In the end sperg Riddler, sperging out that his plan is still in effect and the bombs will go off, is absolutely in character. He is fricking giddy, that's all. Do you complain every time Joker has a moronic, impromptu laugh too?

Autistic incels are also incapable of assassinating multiple high level bureaucrats and orchestrate a terrorist campaign causing city wide destruction. Why ignore that aspect of "realism". The most they do in real life is shoot a room full of kintergarten kids. I understand that Americans have a unhealthy fixation with "incels" and overrate the threat they represent but the rest of the world can't take it seriously.
