The last time I watched a movie on TBS or Superstation was like twenty years ago and it was probably Mortal Kombat or Shawshank Redemption or whatever and they basically speed up both the opening credits and the end credits so the films will fit into 90 minutes or two hours easily. If they did that decades ago they’re probably still doing that now. Lot’s of cable channels would do tv edits of films. Even A&E before they became reality tv trash and showed movies edited them for quick times.
I read it was because they were mainly a sports channel back then and games would run late so all prescheduled programming was moved by 5 minutes just in case
No, the actual reason was because Ted Turner was a sperg and thought that if all his programs are shown 5 minutes past the hour, then when people turn the channel during other channel’s commercial break, they will land on his channel starting the beginning of their programming. Seriously.
it felt like a fever dream even living through it. I never felt like things were right. It's as if something was trying to tell me that the times were never destined for permanence.
sometimes you'd miss the channel you were looking for and you'd have to wait several minutes for it to scroll by again....or you just bought one of these every week
Yeah this was the type of one that would always come with the sunday paper. My parents would also get TV Guide magazine, hell they still get freaking TV Guide and it's more like a normal sized magazine now.
>muhslopstalgia
Culture changing is the nature of culture, it isn’t israeli trickery. Also every single thing in the music section sucks ass by the way.
Everyone misses back then but the only thing making now better is the internet and technology. Like zoomers say they want it to be 2008 or older again but half of them couldn’t handle no smartphones and everything. 2010 or 2011 is probably the oldest you could go and things wouldn’t be too different than now
I've always felt like the case and details surrounding Paris Hilton's sex tape is really fricked up and isn't talked about enough. Maybe because you'd have to imagine she doesn't give that much of a shit.
IIRC hers actually was the guy selling it to some porn company for money without her knowledge. Then Kris Kardashian saw how much attention it got and had Kim (who was Paris' assistant or whatever at the time) make a sex tape so they could leak it and make her a star too.
I totally forgot that Kim had a sextape I thought she only got famous off the OJ connection? I do remember that after the Paris Hilton sextape it became a thing for minor celebrities to have sextapes basically a pre-Fappening for the internet. Like we had the web but we were still dealing in porn on VCR tapes and DVDs before internet porn was that widespread.
The Kardashian girls have always been fame hungry. Kim was basically a parasite who attached herself to anyone who she thought could get her another rung higher on the fame ladder which is why she was a-ok with her mom basically prostituting her out.
>how much attention it got
It was one of the first examples of widespread internet spam. Emails, forums, everywhere flooded with "P A R I S H I L T O N S E X T A P E" followed by a flood of replies "who the frick is paris hilton"

you're confusing/forgetting the pamela anderson sex tape with the two nobody copycats.
No I remember Pamela Anderson sextape with Tommy Lee? Also of course Paris and Kim and I believe one of the girls from Survivor. This was all big news at the time.
>The release of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace >Release of The Matrix, which revolutionizes CGI >Nintendo announces a sequel to the greatest game of all time, titled "Majora's Mask" >Stanley Kubrick's final film "Eyes Wide Shut" releases >The Sega Dreamcast comes out in North America >Release of Ruroni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal >San Antonio Spurs win the NBA Championship, defeating the New York Knicks >Michael Jackson finishes his final performances on the History Tour >The release of Fight Club >WCW's Fingerpoke of Doom sinks the Company >Planescape Torment, System Shock 2 and Age of Empires 2 release on PC
All within 1999
>look away for a split second >miss the programming you were interested in >have to listen to John Mayer for 3 minutes while it scrolls back around

Not in my headcanon. Bob raped his wife into submission with his viagra enhanced dick and made her into a Stepford wife. This hits all my fetishes back then.
>born in december 1991 >have become a complete and utter loser at 32 years old. literally everything about my life is pathetic dogshit >see how everyone loves nostalgia so much despite having good lives on their own, whereas nostalgia threads like these are remembering literally the only time i was every happy in my entire life just because i wasnt yet old enough to become a complete loser yet
its an abstract feel
I'm pretty sure most of us here are in the same boat.
I'm the same age but even though my life didn't turn out all that great I think the nostalgia is kind of silly. A lot of things are just plain better now.
humanity peaked in the mid to late 90s, the cold war was over and peace was the norm, the world looked up to America, there was a wide range of music, rock and roll, dance, electro, hip hop, the economy was booming, it was ok to be gay, it was ok to be straight, it was ok to be a woman, it was ok to be a man, it was ok to be black, it was ok to be white, every year had one kino or another, technology was there but not too intrusive (and not used by too many normies), I wish I existed then
The problem with modern tech isn't that it's overly intrusive. It's that tech companies have gone from being ran by libertarians who won't hand data over to the government without a warrant to tools of subjugation ran by tyrants who feel entitled to your compliance and money. Similar subjugation has happened without technology plenty of times in the past.
Most of the whining about social media is a scapegoat for problems caused by single parent households, which in turn was turned into an epidemic by feminism weaponizing the family courts and putting women out of touch with basic common sense.
Remember when her eating disorder was all over the tabloids at grocery store checkouts?
Now all actresses have pill and eating disorders and nobody cares.
It's now required
she wasn't that skinny
Yes for some reason, and I'm only 29.
America had a national discussion about Anorexia Nervosa
I remember the dancing baby being one of the earliest internet memes I was exposed to.
she always looked good, I don't think that's an eating disorder. what american McWamen have now is an eating disorder.
Zoomers will never understand.
I'm not a zoomer and I don't get it either. My mom used to watch it all the time and my dad hated it. ER too
I fricking hate Red Dwarf so much it’s unreal
you're a smeeeeee

Does TBS still run their shows at 5 minutes past the hour like in the 90s?

W-what's wrong with that?
Well I don’t know if they still do it but nowadays it would be dumb since no one watches anything live anymore anyways.
>Northwest Orient Boeing 707
>American Airlines Douglas DC-6
Exquisite taste
They were fun models. The 707 is gone but I still have the DC in a box

Preview Channel was nice and comfy. Too bad TV Guide ruined it.
There's a website now that you can use to recreate this feel https://battaglia.ddns.net/twc/#
I jerked it to Calista so many times in the 90's
Ugh, she was so hot
Portia de Rossi was hottest.
Sup Cinemaphile
Portia is the fakest lesbian ive ever seen
So you think she's playing the really, really long game then eh?
With Ellen disgraced and Anne Heche disgraced and dead you’d think Portia would give up the dyke con by now?
Hell yeah, Liu was cute too
Slim women are soooo much more attractive than the slampig sweeney types zoomers push.

The 90s and even most of the 2000s now feel dreamlike to me. It's like thinking of the backstory of some fictional universe.
it felt like a fever dream even living through it. I never felt like things were right. It's as if something was trying to tell me that the times were never destined for permanence.
what the frick is that place? some sort of TV prison?
It’s called an electronics store. They used to be in malls and people would go there to look at stuff without buying any of it.
Bet it'd help sales if they got rid of the female-oriented theme and made it masculine-leaning.
Ah, the birth of the internet
This did more to prevent abortions than drumpf could ever have dreamed of doing
What the frick was his problem?
Ally had some of the best and most relatable coping mechanisms.
I miss the ladies, telling me what my evening of tv, is gonna look like.
sometimes you'd miss the channel you were looking for and you'd have to wait several minutes for it to scroll by again....or you just bought one of these every week
>Sept 2001
wow
I wonder how much of that actually aired
They showed the planes hitting the towers on the news over and over again for weeks, zoomer
That was my point. None of the broadcast channels would have been anything but news. Cable, though.
Yeah this was the type of one that would always come with the sunday paper. My parents would also get TV Guide magazine, hell they still get freaking TV Guide and it's more like a normal sized magazine now.
They took this from us
I'm pretty sure I still owe these people a few hundred dollars.
Reminds me of the time I ordered from Colombia House, pissed off my parents

He looks so disgusting that I'm afraid it would ruin any potential enjoyment
It was basically normal until the meme virus.
Even in the 90s you had to be a banker for a big firm to get something like this in the UK.
According to the PBS website, the episode of Nature that aired on Feb. 8, 1999 was called 'Extraordinary Cats':
I miss comfy shows
Everyone misses back then but the only thing making now better is the internet and technology. Like zoomers say they want it to be 2008 or older again but half of them couldn’t handle no smartphones and everything. 2010 or 2011 is probably the oldest you could go and things wouldn’t be too different than now
It's why the 2000s was the sweet spot. Wide adoption of non-shit internet but no smartphones to ruin it.
Paris posted about this and remade it with bratz dolls
I wish I knew about old trasistor radios so I could be friends with Paris.
I've always felt like the case and details surrounding Paris Hilton's sex tape is really fricked up and isn't talked about enough. Maybe because you'd have to imagine she doesn't give that much of a shit.
Really? The only thing her sex tape made me realize is that she is a dead fish in bed.
IIRC hers actually was the guy selling it to some porn company for money without her knowledge. Then Kris Kardashian saw how much attention it got and had Kim (who was Paris' assistant or whatever at the time) make a sex tape so they could leak it and make her a star too.

Kanye destroyed the myth that all black men had giant wieners.

Reminder American Beauty won best picture over Eyes Wide Shut. The academy is fricking moronic
I would argue American Beauty is the better movie and the stupid bag part summarizes late 90s avant garde filmmaking.
I’m pretty sure the co-ed bathrooms in this show gave me a female piss fetish for life.
>look away for a split second

SINGLE FEMALE LAWYER
Many such cases.
i miss it
Parents getting these in the mail, would always sneak a peek what was on Skinamax and what daytime moves had nudity to plan my viewing.
If figured out how to preprogram the VCR so I could tape softcore porn late at night and my mom was none the wiser.
I have a vivid memory of wondering if my cable box had a channel 0 and found out it was early tech tv
Tv and movies have always been fake and gay.
When did it all go to shit? 9/11?
