You and everybody, apparently. The reboots bombed, all of them.
You know what is funny, I don't remember Monster High having a controversy of "being too sexy" or "unrealistic body standards" like Bratz or Barbie had in their time.
But the old designs were sexier and bolder, the reboots were tame in comparison. Maybe their public want them just sexier and colourful?
And I know they are dolls and that would bring a lot of questions, but if it worked why to change it? And if your changes don't work, why try to push it harder?
>unrealistic body standards
It actually did get attacked for that. Even the skeleton character was accused of selling unrealistic body types. It was even featured on Escher Girls.
Frankie is they/them, her live action actor is a girl using he/they, her cartoon VA uses weird neo pronouns.

This franchise is dead. It's beyond damaged at this point there's no hope of it ever being good again.
So just hold on to your memories of the very beginning, when MH wasn't plagued by subpar designs and wasn't trying to cater to the 3% of mental patients out there.

https://deadline.com/2022/07/monster-high-tony-revolori-gabrielle-nevaeh-green-kausar-mohammed-nickelodeon-series-1235063469/ >Rodriguez portrays Lagoona Blue, having grown up in an ancient underwater Mayan Castillo with her ocean nymph mother and sea monster father, sweet yet ferocious Lagoona doesn’t know much about life on land.
This is Australian genocide.
Did they really make the sea monster a Mexican rep? Why? I am not even mad that she is Mexican just that Skelita is right fricking there and actually represents something Mexican unlike a Black Lagoon style monster.
Did they make her pink to make her look more human and therefore more Mexican? None of this makes sense to me.
>just that Skelita is right fricking there and actually represents something Mexican
My reaction with every race swap. I’m the end, it's all branding and cynicism.
My best guess is that they decided to push this diversity into the main girls, rather than leave it for side characters because they wanted to put a bigger focus on these specific minorities.
>Green portrays half-human and half-werewolf Clawdeen, thrilled to join Monster High despite the challenge of being a half-monster in a school of full-monster students.
Okay, is no one gonna comment on this? Werewolf are already half-human half-wolf. What does that makes her? 3/4s human? >Lin portrays the daughter of Dracula, vampire Draculaura who seems like the perfect dictionary definition of a monster. But she hides a deep desire to become a witch, which is strictly forbidden in the monster world.
WAT!? What the frick!? Aren't different types of monsters supposed to be different races? Is this gonna be some kind of troony metaphor or something!?
Technically the creature from the black lagoon was from the Amazon, so her being central/south american isn't that much of a stretch, but seems unnecessary when they already have several hispanic characters to choose from.
This. Why is it suddenly bad for genderqueer people to voice genderqueer people?
Why did they retcon a normal girl to be a genderblob?
Why did they give a grown man the part to play a teenage girl in highschool?
No one tell him about who voices most young little boy characters
This is done for practical reasons. Actual boys age out of their voice. Its easier, and more consistent to hire an adult woman to emulate a boy than having to replace and retrain them every year. Sometimes, a voice becomes so iconic that a female voice actor continues to voice the character as an adult, like Goku or Bart Simpson.
And I dont have to explain any of this because you are a troon who only cares about ruining it for everyone else, and mental illnesses are inherently destructive.
Oh it is, and apparently using it in a reboot of a twelve year old doll line will somehow validate it.

it's funny in a sense, males have constantly been radicalized by shit like this, this time women will be the ones getting radicalized and it will be a clusterfrick.

I'm surprised no one brought up Ghoulia Yelps as a gotcha given that she was voiced by a man. And even then two things
1. Her voice acting was limited to zombie groans.
2. The VA wasn't a non-binary lesbian who goes by xir and Ghoulia wasn't treated as legbutt rep introduced by pronouns.

I'm guessing he has a uniquely girly voice then, otherwise you're arguing for men to play women in a girl's cartoon because... what reason? Shakespeare?
Cleo is a mummy, they just never make it explicit enough; a more obvious mummy would be harder to sell to girls.
Lagoona is supposed to be Creature from the Deep type of monster.
After a while they started running out of gothic/Universal monsters so they had to go with generic fantastical creatures like cat girls and fire elementals.
I don't even need to read this thread. My guess is that Cinemaphile is triggered by black people being in monster high.
Honestly this site is predictable.
Clawdeen looks nerdier.
Draculaura looks chubbier.
Frankie looks alright, but the troon voice might be off-putting.
Deuce looks cool.
Cleo looks more Indian than Coptic, I guess they figured Egypt = Arab.
Heath looks like a preschool character.
Lagoona looks okay, wish she was still blue though.
Toralei still looks kind of punky, hope she's still a b***h.
Bloodgood looks the same, but race-swapped. Debra Wilson voices a lot of authoratative black characters so that's probably how she'll be characterized.
Guess I can comfortably dump this then. I had hope for the dolls, since the last collector's releases were great, and they rereleased the first wave too, but these designs are garbage, they don't capture the characters at all.
>looks up frankie's va to see if voice at least fits the character >finds out the fricker uses neo-pronouns
I cool with a lot of the gender stuff but I'm not going to respect you as a human being if you use neo-pronouns
Of all the characters why Frankie? If anything, I figured they'd make Draculaura the femboi trap character. I wouldn't like it, but I can sort of see it, so explaining it away wouldn't be too hard. With Frankie it makes no sense. Unless you consider her being an amalgamation of humans parts as rationalizing it.
>Unless you consider her being an amalgamation of humans parts as rationalizing it.
That's the reason they're going with. She's made out of male and female body parts and has multiple dormant personalities.
What about that purple unicorn/pegasus looking dude with, I think, rainbow hair from that one movie. I remember getting gay vibes almost immediately from that character. Why not bring him into the fold for gay rep if that's what they want? Unless they were concerned with being a bit too on the nose about it.
I prefer the old designs

How many reboots it had?
It got rebooted in 2016 to stop sales from declining but people hated the changes. Can't imagine this will be any better.
I thought the reboot was the cause of the sales reclining.
She looks like her older sister now.
How was the 2016 reboot?
Overly bright and cutesy with a bunch of new characters nobody asked for.
>Lagoona Blue
>pink skin
But why?
>enby va for frankie
this is going to persist in all MH lore now huh

When did Debra Wilson replace Cree Summer as the goto "black lady" voice?
Why is a man playing female character.
It's a non binary person playing a non binary character
Why did they retcon a normal girl to be a genderblob?
Why did they give a grown man the part to play a teenage girl in highschool?
This is done for practical reasons. Actual boys age out of their voice. Its easier, and more consistent to hire an adult woman to emulate a boy than having to replace and retrain them every year. It doesn't call itself a man so it's cool.

That's not all comparable to what he's talking about. Adults have already voiced teens in Monster High

so...
no ghoulia? I mean, she probably doesn't need a voice actor that much, but that picture doesn't inspire me.
Why is Ghoulia constantly getting fricked over in the reboots?
Her dolls sold like shit and parents thought the character was insensitive to autistic people.
That's fair, but I still think she should be in the series.
I thought she was Mute/Deaf representation.
She spoke Zombie which was fine and was also the smartest and a comic geek.
I'm glad she got skipped on this dogshit.
She's back in the movie, but she just talks normally.

>southern belle rockstar
Fat chance
If she's your favorite, why would you want her to be in a shitty reboot?
I'm just curious about how bad they would handle the character. Plus I would like a newer doll for customization.
>hire a man who pretends to be a gender special kweer and occasionally goes by Ezra
Because that can't possibly backfire
Rent free.
This! Why does the non binary gang live rent free in people's heads?
I wasn't aware making light of something was rent free
My gender identity is not a punchline for you to joke about or make light of.
Yes, yes it is.
I don't know about you but someone being non binary is a pretty fricking funny to me
Only Draculaura and Deuce are somewhat good. Clawdeen is the worst one.
They made her "quirky" uuuggghhhh, frick.
I was like 12 last time I've seen anything related to monster high was clawdeen always so nerdy looking
Not at all
So the first 4 I totally get. Werewolf, vampire, Frankenstein monster, Gorgon, Cleopatra (Not a monster, I'd think mummy, but I get it).
What exactly is Heath Burns, and everything after that? I guess Lagoona Blue is a mermaid? Stripe is a catgirl?
Cleo is a mummy, they just never make it explicit enough; a more obvious mummy would be harder to sell to girls.
