This. Rigby was far too compulsive, jumping into action with his first gut reaction. Mordecai was a douche for constantly lashing out, but at least had some justification because Rigby sometimes just needed a smack to get him to stop. Though the problem there was that Mordecai usually didn't do it BEFORE Rigby initiated the episode's latest disaster.

Really, it's amazing that the two were able to remain friends with how they kept treating each other. Even most siblings would start to get weary of one another if their relationship were getting to the point that hitting one another was pretty much mandatory, much less two really good friends.

Oh, ok. We're supposed to feel bad for Mordecai when he's too much of a pussy to ask out Margaret or refuses to shower but when he beats up his child-sized friend for being mildly annoying, THEN it's for the comedy. OK.

Unfortunately people can't enjoy dudebro friendships without making it something like that. Especially since they're furries. The only decent Regular Show threads I've been in were semi-active livethreads when new episodes were airing, because sometimes people just talked about what was happening in the episode and then the thread died. Towards the end there was a furry into Rigby that kept posting cutesy fluffy art from some artist on Tumblr though.

Now if you want to complain about people bullying Rigby, there's always the time Mordecai killed him, Skips killed him, Hi-Five killed him, Benson sent him and Mordecai on a death trip, Pops killed him technically kind of sort of, Muscle Man almost killed him, and so on.

For Mordecai it's more so because he's an actual self insert for J,G. Quintel and inherits his own flaws. Finn (for most of the early show) is a prepubescent child who's also the only one of his own species navigating a world where the only living source of guidance is a talking dog, cut him a bit of slack.

That's kind of the point of the show. Mordecai acted like he was the superior one in their relationship, but over time it became clear that he was the stunted manchild who refused to change or grow while Rigby learned from his experiences and became a better person.

FRICK YOU, GUYS! MORDECAI IS A FANTASTIC FRIEND. FIRST OF ALL, WITHOUT HIM, RIGBY WOULD BE ON THE STREETS OR BE FORCED TO LIVE WITH THE BROTHER HE HATES. RIGBY IS UNEDUCATED, PHYSICALLY USELESS, AND LAZY, SO THAT NO SANE COMPANY WOULD HIRE HIM. THE ONLY REASON WHY HE HAS A JOB IS MORDECAI, OUR KIND-HEARTED ANGEL, VOUCHED FOR HIM, DESPITE RIGBY BEING THE REASON WHY MORDECAI LOST HIS FUTURE! HOW DOES RIGBY REPAY HIM? TAUNTS HIM EVERY CHANCE HE GETS, ALMOST GET HIM FIRED EVERY EPISODE, LIES TO HIM CONSTANTLY, AND THREATENS TO STEAL HIS LOVELIFE.

      >FORCED TO LIVE WITH THE BROTHER HE HATES.
Rigby is literally made for the streets. It's in his genes. He canonically likes to eat stuff out of the trash, so why deny him his purpose? Why say he is forced if he can just dive into a dumpster any time he pleases (secretly) AND get some dough from his bro? Besides, Mordecai (kind of) had some potential as an art school student. He might have found his footing. Plus, both of them not being at the park would mean less stress for Benson and less hospital visits.

Ready for the ultimate mindfrick? It's quite possible to interpret Mordecai's train wreck of a wedding speech as an attempted proposal to CJ. He starts talking about how its like Muscle Man and Starla were designed to be together, which is an obvious reference to he and Margret also sharing the same basic character design in the classic "look-alike lovers" cartoon trope before he launches into the "but you don't know who you're supposed to be with" AS A REJECTION OF THE TROPE.

And then he loses track of what he's saying and everyone else including CJ is unaware of the trope. It's like for a brief moment he was Genre Aware but it was too much for him to keep straight in his mind and CJ interrupted it anyway.

I thought I was the only one who thought about the additional awkwardness of if he was trying to say something good to CJ and she misunderstood, since ultimately everyone just sees it as the primary "dumping" thing and nothing more.

Rigby ultimately just turned into wish fulfillment for women/her VA Minty Lewis. He became "that boy you fix and becomes an uwu stay at home dad while you're out being an awesome scientist or whatever." I remember when I first saw the finale I thought the point was that Rigby became a video game designer and his kids were playing his game, but no one of the writers answered "it's up to your interpretation :D" which means they clearly let him be the stay at home dad while Eileen is the breadwinner.

It's sad. Mordecai had a thought-out ending but nothing about Rigby should've been "eh, he's a stay at home dad." Even just doing something with him learning to make games would've had the bare minimum of a basis since they had an ep in season 7 where he makes one for Mordecai's birthday. It even had the same half-assed "didn't actually" vibe that his diploma-getting did where he fricked around and cheated the system by doing something else and it being seen as development.

In his defense Margret and him did have a relationship but broke it off for journalism school. Out of his defense, he already had something good going and frankly no chemistry with Margaret. CJ's only real flaw was she had a violent temper, but Mordechai literally didn't care.

          >when rigby revealed he is the reason mordo didn't get into college
Funny how this was the only way for Quintel to level out the playing field - not by making Mordecuck any better, but by making his friend that much worse.

Wasn't the whole point of the movie about taking responsibility for your past even when you thought you ere past it? Rigby wasn't any worse for this because that was the kind of shitty person he was before he got his shit together. It was about Rigby owning up to the biggest mistake of his past and Mordechai forgiving him is Mordechai being the better man rather than resenting his friend for something he regrets and has grown beyond.

Margaret never really knew that Mordo considered her to be a love interest.

Mordecai clearly abused his strength and loved physically bullying Rigby

And it was funny every single time

And that is why I hate Regular show but love the ending. Rigby got the last laugh by proving once and for all that not only does he like females, but he ended up with the girl everyone shipped him with while Mordecai ended up with someone who made their debut in the series finale. Usually, I hate it when a Character ends up with a character that shows up later in the franchise, but Mordecai is a jerk and he deserves worse.

Childhood is sympathising for Mordecai and Rigby.
Adulthood is realising that Benson was the real MVP for putting up with their bullshit for so long.

Benson was a loser. He and Mord were basically the same. Imagine being bitter because you don't get to be a drummer anymore. And taking it out on your employees. And then stalking your neighbor but being too b***h to say anything to her. Sound familiar? Adulthood is realizing Skips had the right idea. Keep your head down. Work hard and keep your buisiness and friends to yourself.

Skips was a fricking chad, one of the few good characters in that show. Always willing to help out, knows what he's about, and has friends in high places.

Benson's anger is justifiable in the early seasons but it becomes clear that he's just abusive to his employees because of his own mess. He should have fired Morde and Rigs and been done with it, but no he keeps them around because he can't live without them because they're living the lifestyle HE wanted to live so he needs to make them suffer.

It's funny when little shits get just completely crushed. They deconstructed this dynamic pretty effectively in the first Death Kwon Do episode.

Funny how this was the only way for Quintel to level out the playing field - not by making Mordecuck any better, but by making his friend that much worse.

what the frick was even the point of CJ’s existence if they were going to make her dump Mordecai and disappear from the show?

      Just more Mordecai romance autism

Maybe Quintel was going through relationship drama himself at the time? Or this was based off of his own love life in the past

Personally I think Quintel was trying to match the Adventure Time-type model of "cartoon direction" at the time. Which is to say, lots of plot points that dare to intrigue but fail to commit to anything and deliver.

Because that's what actively dating is like

          >Because that's what actively dating is like
          >It was SUPPOSED to be unsatisfying and needlessly melodramatic
The only pass I'm going to give you with this stupid ass argument is that the ending kinda goes with this type of interpretation of relationships. But I think it's more likely that JG didn't learn proper writing in whatever fancy animation school he went to, so he struggled in his first show with a few romances. But hey, it all turned out in the end.

That anon was right tho. Sometimes you meet someone for dating purposes and one day you decide you aren't compatible and they're out of your life forever. You move on and so do they.
