Also, frick whoever at Amazon decided to cancel it mid episode, it needed just 2-4 more episodes to end as one of the greatest series ever made.

Was this will ever released on bluray? I wanted to rewatch it, but a webdl rip quality isn't optimal.

It's not a first echelon product, and it's been 3 years, so, 99% no.

      >cancel it mid episode,
You mean season? the original contract was for 10 episodes as per Refn's remarks

      And 10 episodes were released.

        Exactly, there's nothing incomplete.

What? This is the full series. Refn was given carte blanche and a budget without a ceiling. They just dodn’t make a second season.

What’s Refn up to anyway? He claims to be making a movie for Netflix but Netflix says they don’t know what he’stalkimg about.

Copenhagen Cowboy. Finished shooting earlier this year, probably being edited rn, it stars his daughter and there was some issue with PETA related to pigs during filming. There are some pics/stills on his insta

Who keeps talking about TOTDY cancellations? It was never cancelled. The series is what Refn wanted to make from beginning to end and intended as a one off.

If he ended it as intended, where are Russian mafia captains, Yakuza soldiers and teen killer gangs that are promised in the synopsis, or them not appearing is part of the cliffhanger?

I forget how moronic most people are. How do you even function in everyday life?
Are you filtered by everything that's not just plot points put to film?
Reminds me of some homosexual complaining about the unbelievable character of Jack's crimes in the house thay Jack built yesterday. Are you aware that allegories exist, and that meaning is not only derived from dialogues and the plot?

                You didn't answer the question.

                Anonymous

The answer is that the mafia or the crime part of the series is merely a framing device. It's not the subject matter nor has it anything to do with what it's trying to say. So he used enough crime elements as to make his point and didn't dwell too much on mafia bullshit plots.
The Yakuza appear in the first middle half, where they cut the guy's fingers.
The russians are mentioned by Damian.
The cartel is more developed because one of the main messages is the collapse of European order in the US where violence is an inherent vice of the system and the return to a native american (so mexican) system where violence and cruelty are fully institutionalized.
It's interesting it was made a few years before the great collapse became so apparent.

                You guys are all moronic.
TOTDY was heavily altered during production. The final product has little to do with the original pitch or screenplays. Refn shoots in chronological order and changed everything up as he went along (as he has done on most of his movies). Plot threads disappearing are simply him not caring about them anymore. IIRC the final episode was him and Jenna improvising because they didn’t have an ending yet and he liked Jenna’s ideas.

Blindly assuming something is cancelled because you feel that way is just hubris. Also why would you bring up a movie as awful as THTJB to make a point lol

6 episode series called "Copenhagen Cowboy" featuring an actor from Pusher trilogy is in the making, and I think he didn't claim it was for Netflix, it was only a rumor.

why was the last episode of the season so terrible, in that it's basically just psychic woman dancing and jerking off?

Also yandere Hispanic girl going John Wick on gangsters in a bar. If it was really intended to end with cliffhanger, I don't know what to think, NWR is either a genuine autist or 200 IQ, probably both, according to people who have worked with him.

Where the frick is Maniac Cop?

He’s been trying to do it for like 15 years (he owns the rights personally), I think COVID killed production on the HBO version.

The biggest mystery was The Avenging Silence, which I believe was completely finished in pre-production and ready to film until Amazon came by with a big bag of money and persuaded Refn to do TOTDY instead.

Refn is in my opinion probably Kubrick heir.

In terms of visuals, he is the first to have pushed the envelope (not just mimick it like PTA).

I fully agree, although I would rather compare him to euro directors like Tarkovsky or Godard. He never had mass appeal nor pretended to. Americans still focus on profitability and Kubrick was no exception, which limits the execution freedom as to not alienate viewers. European directors have always had a more elitist approach to cinema where the vision is more important than raking on profits. It helps that movies are financed by blockbusters indirectly by a tax and redistribute system that most European countries have.
Drive was a lucky accident, it shouldn't have become as popular as it did.

absolutely loved it and thought it was some of the best tv i’ve seen but most normies wouldn’t be able to appreciate it

You have to admit Refn is one of the only directors of his generation with a true vision. Seems like he will be one of the lucky few to be remembered by posterity. He has not a single truly bad film.
