>Morty's a dog. People love cats because their affection is earned. I treat you like an equal because I respect you. You remind me of your grandmother.
How come the writers aren't able to deepen one character without shitting on another? Also where the hell did this Summer/Diane parallel come from? That was never shown, and only mentioned twice but now they're trying to force it.
Do the new writers just hate Morty or something? He hardly appeared in the season as it is. Compare that to S1 where he was basically the protagonist.
Also, why can't this show write anything without explicitly stating it? They have to TELL the viewer that Beth is like Rick or that Summer is like Diane instead of showing it more. Do the writers not know "show don't tell"?
It's All Fucked Shirt $22.14 |
It's All Fucked Shirt $22.14 |
Shut up nobody cares about this show anymore and you don't either you just wanna rage
If it weren't for you homosexual I wouldn't have to hear about it anymore because everyone else realized it's shit and is letting it die so quit puppeting it's corpse already
>t. Roiland
>People love cats because their affection is earned.
This implies that people do not love dogs. It also implied that cats aren't foodbawds. What a dumb city-dweller thing to say.
Anyone that acts like cats are these elegant independent creatures that "allow" you to feed and shelter them because they're so refined has never had a cat. Cats are fricking idiots that are scared of plastic bags and blankets and accidentally run into the wall 3 times a day.
Nah, it's from single catladies who are trying to act like their pathetic life has more value because they have a "smart" and "elegant" creature.
Incidentally, they are also the despotic dictators of middle management, HR, and Hollywood, which is why this shit gets forced everywhere.
In ancient times cats were worshipped as gods; they have not forgotten this.
So were cows, crocodiles, bin chickens, dogs, scarabs, you name it. Animal cults used the animal's behaviours for divination. It was normal a the time. Dunno why people fixate on cats as if that was unique.
If cats looked like frogs we'd realize what nasty, cruel little bastards they are. Style. That's what people remember.
Cats look like imps, with their bugeyes and goblin physique.
They were also systemically breed for sacrifice and consumption.
So were cows
>This implies that people do not love dogs
damn you're dumb. Nothing in that statements suggests there are not other reasons people love dogs.
Is there anything more laughable than a Catgay? Dogbros enjoy unconditional love and loyalty (exempting shit bulls) without the toxoplasmosis.
It depends on the cat. Mine is really sweet and affectionate and follows me around everywhere but she's also kinda stupid yet well behaved.
Cats can be very affectionate it just depends. Our first dog wasn't affectionate with me all that much. Animals are like people
Doggays will defend a dog even if it chews off someone's toe.
>toe
More like someone's face.
He literally said except shitbulls
>Is there anything more laughable than a Catgay?
Dog nutters tried to protect a dog that mauled a child unprovoked by claiming the child was at fault, despite it having clear camera evidence that the kid was minding his own business. Go tongue kiss your shit eating mutt.
>Is there anything more laughable than a Catgay?
a tripgay
>pitbulls
anon pitbulls are individuals too. there are plenty of them that don't attack smaller things or humans. one walked up behind me once and then let give it scritches. it rolled over and submitted because it wanted to be friends
>that cats aren't foodbawds.
And dogs aren't?
Dogs are man's best friend that you kidnap at an early age and force dependency on your foodstuffs
>Morty's a dog. People love cats because their affection is earned. I treat you like an equal because I respect you. You remind me of your grandmother.
This is so painfully written by a woman.
I'm not even going to check.
I think what he means to say is he loves Summer for different reasons than he loves Morty. People get dogs because their love is unconditional and constant even when you're at your worst. People get cats because their love is earned and it makes them feel validated or special when they get it. It came out wrong, but I reckon that was what was intended by it.
He said Summer was his equal, in a way that implied she meant more than Morty did.
Yeah I guess that's just a woman writer self-inserting and using Rick as the daddy that never loved them or an older chad who loves them secretly or a stand in for the patriarchy to tear down again
>Summer is his equal
>is a janitor that earns points for silly items out of a fricking vending machine
Yeah. Equal.
Summer could unironically kill Rick
Couldn't Morty do the same?
My coworker is my equal, I would still throw him into a literal meat grinder for my son.
In that case he should consider Beth a dog because she puts up with all Rick's bullshit due to abandonment issues.
I wouldn't be surprised if an autist like Rick does sort people into dog or cat based on how their affection works
They had a dog.
If anything it should be the opposite. Summer sees Rick in a positive light constantly and begs for his attention while Morty is the more critical one of him.
hey, I didn't write the episode
After Space Beth came in she stopped giving a shit
It's very inconsistent. Summer begs for Rick's approval and is seen as the reliable backup sidekick like in the Mr. Nimbus episode, but then you have the vending machine system later introduced where she does chores for Rick in exchange for a prize as well as Night Family where her growing resentment for him comes out in the form of Night Summer.
And while Morty does get Rick to make him all sorts of gadgets no questions asked like we saw with the guns last week, he still has to learn how to solve his own problems when they get out of hand and has even been given gadgets by Rick specifically for Rick to do another elaborate "I told you so."
In the end, the point of this episode was to explore the common case of younger siblings getting coddled but on a crazy sci-fi scale. It's just not clear if the writers are intentionally having Rick be in the wrong for still finding Morty—his best friend and partner—unworthy of respect this many seasons in. They could be building to that confrontation later down the road, but who the frick knows. It's also dumb that we still don't really know anything about Diane. Was she REALLY like Summer back then? Show don't tell.
So what, we're doing the SAME fricking arc again? Rick is an butthole to Morty, Morty gets sad, they make up in the most anticlimactic and status-quo resetting way possible?
God, I've seen FANFICTION with better writing than this. How are a bunch of 30-50 year olds that are getting PAID to write doing this bad of a job.
I don’t think they’ll retread that same arc again. Morty barely gives a shit about what Rick thinks anymore and if anything they’ll do some episode about him being too much like Rick.
The writers want to continue building on the character development those first three seasons introduced, but Harmon also wants to make this the next Simpsons that'll run for decades to come. He wants to have it both ways and it's pissing off all the fans who resonated with the show's character arcs.
At least the people who just watch it for the jokes and the memes still find it funny, right? RIGHT?
The humor is all 80s references and repeating the same joke over and over again.
At least Scary Terry had charm.
You can run but you can't hide b***h
I love cats because they're dumb entitled idiots. they're hilarious.
do you think there aren't dogs in cities
Honestly, it has to be a different writer or something because this feels ridiculously bipolar from uh...literally all of the previous episodes. Especially the last one where they were basically having fun.
I'm guessing it was written by one of the female writers, because that's usually the reason when a female character gets jacked off to high hell.
I wouldn't doubt it. They even make Rick incompetent just to make Summer look badass by comparison.
It was a female writer and this was her first episode. Also a they/them lesbo.
>has rick say something she always wanted her father to say
>has summer go through some highschool slice of life shit
>shits on morty and dogs at the same time
>How come the writers aren't able to deepen one character without shitting on another?
Because it's coming from Rick.
What even is Rick's character at this point?
BoJack Horseman crossed with a family guy character.
Where is the fricking point then. They've had a fricking DECADE to develop their characters. I'm convinced the writers are just. bad writers.
Do you know how much 10 years would do for any other show? People transform entirely in that time. Rick and Morty made nothing of itself in that amount of time.
Considering how the show seems to go out of its way to not only shit on the idea of the relevance of backstory or continuity, and in fact outright seethes about ever having to acknowledge the fans who enjoy that shit, I'm convinced the writers just want to seem like they're too good to do what other writers did before in making their comedy characters more like real people because they think it'll make their jobs harder due to needing to put in effort.
It's only ever Rick who complains about plot progression. I feel like Harmon's underlings really do want to follow in Venture Bros's footsteps, but they're forced to keep the family consistent and "marketable" so as to not alienate casual viewers who just think of it as another crass animated sitcom and watch for the comedy.
which was stupid considering the casual viewers stopped caring. they went from 2.8 million viewers in s3 to not even hitting 0.5 million once this season. hell even the rick prime episode this season didn't hit 0.5 million, that's how little normies care about this corpse of a show.
I still feel like Nielsen ratings aren't the clearest indicator of a broadcast TV show's viewership or overall popularity. Streaming has affected how committed viewers are to tune in to live premieres when they can typically expect to catch said premiere on Hulu or Max or whatever the next day. Rick and Morty is still one of the most-viewed shows out there, even if live premieres aren't as high as before. People definitely don't get hyped about new episodes like in the past tho. I can feel the apathy with each new season.
>Streaming has affected how committed viewers are to tune in to live premieres when they can typically expect to catch said premiere on Hulu or Max or whatever the next day
next-day streaming still factors into nielsen ratings, just like dvr recordings do. also r&m doesn't even stream next day, you have to wait months after the season's finished to watch it on streaming.
Is there a reason why that is? Literally the only Adult Swim show that doesn’t get next day streaming releases ever since Max implemented that
to drive up dvd sales. it's their only high profile show and ratings have been falling steadily so they desperately need them. funnily enough, earlier this year they were advertising the season 6 dvd on food network of all places.
That worked in the first couple seasons when we didn't know that the reason there is no plot is because they can't write one
NWBAHG
Grim.
It's possible that our Morty will become something like Evil Morty, but less radical. Or maybe it's because the episode was written by a stupid fat Asian woman. Or is it irony on Rey? but most likely because a stupid fat woman interfered with the script. but despite this, Morty is humiliated the entire season (not counting the episode with Prime, there was a need for contrast between different Mortys, there are no problems here), maybe Summer will now always be instead of Morty?
I hope it's just the side effect of summer episodes always been some "yaas kween slay" homosexualry.
Man, frick Rick. Cats and dogs are both good.
>Ignores how Morty is vastly more critical of Rick than Summer who is often a Rick fangirl as far back as the gotron episode.
>Ignores how Rick and Morty have been through hell together in episodes like Rickmurai Jack, Solaricks, Die Hard, and Unmortricken.
>Ignores how the entire point of these past few seasons is Rick learning how to actually love and appreciate the people in his life.
>lol, nah. Rick doesn't respect Morty and sees him as a slave.
I'm just chalking this up to a brand new diversity hire getting her own episode out of charity and coercion. Nothing to get upset about until she's given more free reign.
Die Hard sucked though. They forcefully shoved in bad 80s references and yass slay summer girlboss moments when it should have been a character exploration of Morty and how he feels about Rick.
Think the family guy episode where Brian and Stewie get locked in a bank vault. When will Rick and Morty have an episode like THAT
>Morty eats Rick's shit and licks his butthole
ok. i walked into that one.
Sounds like something they'd do.
>Morty's a dog. People love cats because their affection is earned. I treat you like an equal because I respect you. You remind me of your grandmother.
And I’m sure Rick’s told Morty the opposite shit regarding Summer. It’s Rick, even his affirmations are probably not true
That would actually be a pretty funny way to handwave that scene if the writers get enough criticism for it. Until they actually have the balls to take the piss out of the diversity hire's fanfiction and reverse the damage she's done to the characters' development as seen here
, that is unfortunately just a cope.
That's the second season opener.
Y'know spend a lot of time defending the Rick & Morty writers and filling in the blanks for the character inconsistencies. Can we really expect it to be some 4D chess move with Rick being an unreliable narrator? They played that first mention of Summer reminding him of Diane pretty straight.
Most Summer episodes have Morty getting shit on.
Maybe the whole point is that the goal was to attract a new audience, specifically women, and it seems like black women. They hired some fat woman to write an episode, the whole episode about a woman, they belittled men, and so on.
I don't know how else to explain what's happening
I don't get what the frick this writer was thinking. Morty goes through hell and back for Rick, and he says he has no respect for Morty. He helped him kill Rick Prime.
Not him, it was been Evil Morty
Women need to out down men in order to look better.
Worst Morty characterization in the series, one of the worst for Summer, and completely assbackwards regression from Rick. Really damaging episode.
I didn't like this episode. They made Rick pathetic even though the audience know he has tech built in his body. If he were chasing the president in the hallway scene, he would not fumble this hard. The mini-me with another mini-me gag wasn't particularly funny either. It all felt like a waste of time
anon you need to open your mind!!!
but summer was so strong and powerful! she slayed!
I'm pretty sure they had a lower budget this season, the fight against Rick prime looked like ass
Cartoon network isn't doing so good and adult swims budget was slashed, that's probably why we didn't get a pibby show
All the awful garbage you didn't watch was still there and still costed them money to produce, that money had to come from somewhere
>Cartoon network isn't doing so good and adult swims budget was slashed
this is all warner's fault for merging with discovery. combining an entertainment conglomerate known for high-budget scripted content with one known for low budget reality tv is insanely moronic. i hope this deal bankrupts warner and permanently damages their reputation.
Let's be honest here airing teen titans go 20 hours a day while leaving the 2 am to 6 am slot open for everything else was not a good idea either
Morty, I know i sometimes play pranks on you, like getting Dougie to put a witchetty grub on your little sausage, but you are a true blue Australian hero, mate. And I wouldn't go on these crazy Bushland adventures with anyone else. I love ya Morty.
That segment was unironically better at being emotional than any of R&M's attempts to be emotional.
Still best episode and best Rick, hands down.
>Morty's a dog.
>How come the writers aren't able to deepen one character without shitting on another?
This has been Morty's role since season 2 anon, it's literally the reason Rick hangs out with Morty
Yes, if you ignore the time where Rick was drunk-dialing Jessica while crying because Morty was gone for 3 weeks. Or when Rick was irrationally mad when Morty was sucking up to the vindicators.
>These catgays scared of dogs
Fricking kek. Are you scared of every person walking down the street because they might stab you too?
A sensible Dogchad can compromise and concede that you should stay away from violent breeds but catcels will still bring up rottweilers, shit bulls, and outliers for friendly breeds.
Yes, because dogs often attack unprovoked .
>often
So you are scared of everyone you meet in public too then? How do people like you exist in society?
>How do people like you exist in society?
dude you're on Cinemaphile. do you really think most of us go outside?
>Morty's a dog. People love cats because their affection is earned. I treat you like an equal because I respect you.
>this is what cat people actually believe
Dammit Lovecraft, go back to being dead.
The ONLY reason cats don't kill children is because they can't.
Irrelevant. The only reason you don't commit every atrocity under the sun out of boredom is because you can't.
Actually, no. Is that normal for cat people?
>go to pat well treated dog
>he is happy to see me, wants to be pat and played with
>go to pat well treated cat
>50/50 chance whether the little shit wants to be pat or will lash out for no reason like a moody c**t
Your show sucks.
Rick doesn't treat anyone as his equal, especially not Summer. This was explicit in Season 2 episode 1. God this show is inconsistent.
>Do the writers not know "show don't tell"?
Most of the episode was show don't tell going by the inside the episode.
>Do the new writers just hate Morty or something?
He regularly gets mind wiped or replaced. Then you have Evil Morty and whatever is left of his resentment for Rick in Roy.
>How come the writers aren't able to deepen one character without shitting on another?
>Morty says "I've asked for an attribute slider a hundred times"
>Rick already had one built and sitting in the draw
Why would Rick need an attribute slider?
Forgot to say it's overall just dogshit writing and not ebin lore.
>Why would Rick need an attribute slider?
Rick isn't an actual character. Rick is just a relatable Reddit self-insert power fantasy character. He wants an attribute slider because the writers are typical nerds who want attribute sliders. Bad writers are incapable of writing anyone but themselves.
>How come the writers aren't able to deepen one character without shitting on another?
can you name 5 real-life examples of a woman being uplifted without shitting on a man or all men?
1) all of the Rick rants are shit
2) Morty has to put up with a lot of bullshit
3) They aren't equals and Rick shouldn't act like they are
Isn't it pretty clear that Sumner can be a rick-tier supergenius one day?
She fell for the fake giant-head religion, and she didn't realize Rick was backstabbing her in the Gotron episode.
She's not Jerry stupid but she's also not any smarter than Morty. People (and the show) point out how her mannerisms are beginning to be like Rick's, but the underlying reason for her acting that way is her trying to impress him.
>she's also not any smarter than Morty
canon.
Those bars clearly max out at far different levels though. Maxed morty could never make that rube goldberg throw
These are not Morty’s parameters, before putting on the bracelet, he specially reduced Summer’s Strength and Dexterity in order to weaken her and take away the bracelet, in order to increase the intelligence and charisma that remained with Summer when he took off the bracelet. If Morty has pumped up charisma, why does he need a bracelet for a party?
>Summer
>max charisma
In what universe?
The shows been on a downward spiral for years and yet we keep watching
I’m pretty sure Morty doesn’t give a shit whether Rick respects him or not though. If anything it’s probably fuel for the next major family argument or something.
we never knew much about Jerry's father have we?
Unironic cuck.
That exchange is pretty unearned, especially since Rick's treatment of her ranges from nuisance to wageslave. They could have built up to it in the episode itself, and I imagine they probably thought they did, but there's a disconnect between what they think they're conveying and what they're actually conveying.
where can i watch season 7 episode 7
adult swim
or kimcartoon
Summer is a fricking c**t. I haven't cared for her since season 4. Beth so much better and that's saying something.
Which was worse: this or the unity episode?
I'm still mad that they tried to tell us we should grovel on our knees if a woman ever hits you up after dumping you. If a b***h comes back, it ain't cuz she gives a frick about you, it's cuz nobody gives a frick about her.
This one was at least interesting. The Unity one was clearly hamfisting it's messaging of "uwu you should always keep everyone in your life!"
Sometimes people don't wanna talk to you anymore and you gotta move on with that. You're not under any fricking obligation to keep someone in your life.
What pisses me off more is that out of ALL of the characters they could make recurring, they chose the self-insert therapist b***h. Not snuffles. Not scary terry. not anyone with any actual charm.
the unity episode was terrible
turned her into a 1 dimensional character
whole thing made zero sense
Woman writers are so vindictive. They always have a bone to pick. It's rarely about telling good stories or interesting characters, just vanity, envy, bitterness, and just plain antagonistic.
I feel like people are really misreading this. It's literally just
>Dogs are bred to unconditionally love and obey people unless extremely poorly trained
>Cats are only semi-domesticated and have to be convinced to do what they're told and/or give affection
It's literally that simple.
>I don't respect the guy who's been my ride or die for years now and think of him as a dog
>but I respect the person I give grunt work cuz she reminds of my wife somehow
It's just shitty writing
I'd forgive it if it were a calculated attempt at building to some actual development between the two and strengthening their bond in a later episode, but Two Crows was two fricking seasons ago. They're never gonna have Rick and Morty act as equals, especially now that the whole family is more involved in sci-fi adventures. I have no clue what this means for Morty's character moving forward, but he definitely won't ever be respected in Rick's eyes.
The writers really wish the show was just "Rick".
>season opener doesn't involve Morty outside of two throwaway lines
It's not looking good, Mortybros…
Aw, jeez
I just feel bad for Morty at this point. Like there's black comedy and then there's just. The same thing over and over again.
Maybe I'm just oversensitive or something but I can't really find that much enjoyment in watching a 14 year old boy be beaten down all the time. Like there's not even any payoff to watching it. It's just meant to be funny.
Yes actually, and Season 1 wasn't really like that. I know he's just bargain bin Shinji Ikari but still
>Cats are only semi-domesticated and have to be convinced to do what they're told and/or give affection
Where does the sentiment come from? I'm guessing it's cat owners that never had a dog.
>>Dogs are bred to unconditionally love and obey people unless extremely poorly trained
Oh no, it's one of those idiots who thinks dogs don't need to be trained.
>Do the new writers just hate Morty or something?
Morty's entire character is to be a psychological punching bag. Have you even watched the show?
Because In a good show this reveal is the result of build up but that build up in Rick and Morty either doesn't exist or happens entirely off screen
It's amazing how the new writers they got after season one are completely incapable of writing basic plots yet they get hired to write blockbusters
It's also amazing how this was not a problem with the old writers
It's almost like if you don't gatekeep the things you love they will be stolen by completely untalented people who will parade it's corpse and profit from your work
>if you don't gatekeep the things you love
You cannot gatekeep the things you love. They will all be taken from you and corrupted beyond all recognition.
Weird squid game reference in the post credits
The writing is so bad. This whole cat/dog analogy is so cringey. And making a whole story about how Rick respects the strong and independent woman is again so cringe. The opening where Summer talks about how strong and independent she is again was so cringe I thought they were joking. This Rick is a completely different character. I miss the old Rick. Remember the episode with the sex robot and the cavemen alian men and the super smart woman and Rick was just an immature brat it was funny and interesting and was able to make commentary about gender dynamics without pandering to either side aka good writing. Summer is just a boring girlboss now. And I guess Morty is Rick's b***h which is so unfair because he has done so much more for Rick.
It's funny because Summer and Beth and Space Beth have had about 5 minutes of screen time this entire season up until this episode.
>morty is a dog
So summer, being a white woman, will frick morty?
I wish it would just happen for real already. With Justin gone, it seems further away than ever.
If the show had a different title, they would just make the show Rick and Summer, and forget about Morty. It's obvious he's coming a victim of the writers hating him. They seem to even like Jerry more than him.
Good writing is when the smart character narrates speeches in every episode about the intended character dynamics and the message of every episode
I don't care about the family members who aren't Rick and Morty at all. Not one iota. When they speak I immediately become bored and disinterested. When an episode focuses on them I get distracted by other things until the episode ends. They aren't funny. They aren't cool. They aren't interesting. They never should have been anything more than framing tilo remind us that Morty has a normal life when he's not going on adventures with his grandpa.
