Haven't heard of that. What is it?

Simon is probably my favorite character in the series for how psychotically evil he was while still being a complex character but the fanbase reception when he died of "GET FRICKED LOSER diE DIE DIE" really put me off. Like he was incredibly sadistic and evil but he was so broken and pitiful

        >What is it?
Show about space explorers trapped on a batshit insane planet and they all have different experiences of survival. Bearded dude, like Simon, is a beta incel schizo who starts killing creatures from the planet to get a weird psychic frog to drug him with visions of his past. Flashbacks also show he was an impulsive prick and nasty to be around with.
His insanity makes more sense than Simon since he is established to have been locked up in a capsule for months with barely anything to eat or drink, and there is no cult leader around him so his decisions are his own.
        >but the fanbase reception when he died of "GET FRICKED LOSER diE DIE DIE" really put me off.
That was also the reaction of most of the crew working on Infinity Train, so both writers and fans were stupid.

He murdered a person after pretending he was going to save them and then revealed it without remorse to her 6-year old adopted daughter and then intended to murder the child when he figured out she was a denizen, and then proceeded to psychologically torture the woman he had spent half his life with before trying to kill her twice including after she saved him he’s a bad person

She was also a child. She was no more than a year or two older than him. Again, it doesn’t excuse her actions, it’s obvious it doesn’t, but it’s still relevant.

I agree that Grace saying “I don’t owe you anything” felt off in the finale, she should have recognized that she influenced Simon’s delusional ideology even if his actions at a certain point were his own

Owen also jokes a lot about him being dead and how funny that is. He’s a hack
            >his choices were his own
He was gaslighted and mindbroken by 3 female characters in the show. Said characters I’m supposed to empathize with but he is supposed to be the monster? Frick that, if you wanted him to be entirely responsible for his actions then don’t make him the sidekick of a cult leader

            >kidnapped as a child and indoctrinated into a cult
            >his actions were his own
He was objectively failed by the trains systems, emotionally abandoned and let down by The Cat, and deliberately betrayed by his only "friend", a person who pulls fricking rank on him rather than treat him like a human being.
His actions were entirely reactive. Every single thing he did was in RESPONSE to something. Most of those somethings being totally out of his control.
What the frick are you on about. He was barely even a fricking character with how little agency he had.

            Today I will remind them.

I've said it before but the writers relationship to Simon is on the same level has Korra and her writers. It's just bizarre to me that someone would make a main character they hate.

Help me out. Why would he have done that? Was it something he thought of due to his own interests and understandings of the world that he had considered and come to?
Furthermore, what child are you referring to? The only children I am aware of were the ones he returned to as quickly as he could, in order to help them. Or are you making the argument that the train, even when working properly, isn't right? That S2 doesn't actually mean anything.

                Anonymous

He didn't come up with the idea of murdering train people on his own, but he was very happy to do it. Unlike Grace who started to see why that was wrong after seeing just how "human" train denizens are with Hazel, Simon didn't give a shit and would have gone for the kill on her for hiding her turtle nature from him.
He was willing to kill Grace, an actual human, for hiding things from him, he definitely wouldn't have hesitated to wheel Hazel.

                >believe
Well why didn't you say so earlier? If belief is the metric then I believe I am right about Simon having no agency and not being accountable. That he was mistreated in and out of universe and that the characters around him let him down. That is my belief.
Had I known that was what we were doing I wouldn't have wasted so much time getting to the conclusion of the conversation.

Except that's not even what happened because Simon barely spent any time with her like Grace, and when he found out she was a turtle, he didn't try to kill her. He just called her a freak and moved on with his life.
Reminder that in the first episode Simon spared a null when Grace wanted to kill it. You forgot probably because the writers also forgot. Its a shit season.

Still sparing their life over killing them, which proves he's not murder crazy enough to actually kill Hazel. Meaning the whole "hiding the truth" bullshit was pointless and Grace is a dumb motherfricker responsible for everything bad that happened.
Also, Grace would be able to tell the truth better than Simon since she started the cult, meaning she always knew it was a lie, while he completely bought into it.

Simon had just murdered Hazel's gorilla mom after seeming to bong with it a bit in the colour clock car. Grace was pretty justified in assuming he'd kill Hazel on a whim too

                >Grace was pretty justified in assuming he'd kill Hazel on a whim too
Considering his schizo ass only did it because she sort of planned it to begin with, all she needed to do was just tell him to frick off. Grace had total control over him for the majority of the season until they conveniently forgot about it.

I'd argue the betrayal was leading him to waste years of life on a fake religion. Dude missed so many life experiences based on a lie when he had had a good chance to make it off the train. His number as a kid wasn't even high.

I actually liked Simon. He was set up for a good redemption in the first half. He had valid reasons for being shitty but refused to grow from it for some reason. Even with the "why would I change" a reasonable person would still evolve. He was relatable to me when he was betrayed, both the real and the "self-conceived one". It's funny how at the start both Grace and Simon were shitty to denizens/NPCS whatever but Simon was still the evil one despite both of them doing the same shit, with Grace clearly making the philosophy in the first place and Simon fully adopting it. It kinda feels like they just needed a villain and went, "White man spotted."

Owen could have shown it on season 4.
But motherfricker thought he was guaranteed 8 seasons at the start of the animation industry’s downspiral, so he made a, and I quote him, “relaxed season” after the last one was so intense (pussy) thinking he could get more seasons to tell that story. S5 wasn’t even gonna end it, it was gonna be a prequel movie. So the fricker thought he was guaranteed golden treatment and ruined his chances of telling a good story.
I hope he’s stuck doing shitty game adaptations forever.

Yeah Grace and Simon are portrayed as being equally terrible people, the different was that Grace actually realised that and wanted to be better, whereas Simon kept spiralling downward

          Anonymous

Most people acknowledge this, but also that Grace had an advantage, knowing that the conductor cult and numbers claim were lies, while Simon believed them 100%. Simon was always going to have a harder time accepting the truth than Grace was, and that's excluding this obvious personality disorder.

Yeah that's kind of the problem I think. It's not an even competition in any way.

I hear people tried to nullify Simon's experience because "SHE DIDN"T REALIZE!!!" but "You never came back" is actually a pretty valid response if you seriously think about it. She didn't try to get help. She didn't even try to find his body. She never contacted him for 7 years.

True. What's interesting about that sequence is that guilt drives the Cat to act out in emotion with Simon when with everyone else she's extremely logical. Makes you wonder what the Cat is really like when she's not scamming people.

She literally told him she was a backstabbing b***h and that she hated her. I doubt she would relish her death, but if he had told her she'd probably wouldn't have cared either. She hated Grace and wanted Simon to hate her too.
But she's voiced by Janeway so I guess that means she's just a lovable cat and we should blame Simon for everything she is partly to blame for.
