I remember the Poughkeepsie Tapes made me feel the same way, where it's got some spooky moments but it's not exactly scary as much as it is just tremendously upsetting. And it isn't just edgy or torture port, even though you could argue that's all it is, but there's this weird distressing feeling about it that's distinct from just seeing a character suffer. There's this kind of emotional and almost spiritual destruction to it that feels deeply harrowing, like reading about a real murder case that makes you wonder if there's really a loving God out there if someone could go through something that horrible... but it's not just senseless either, it somehow gives this weird meaning to itself. Something about it feels like it matters in this overwhelmingly evil way.

Just wanted to post this. Its from a movie that's basically just Crossed: Taiwan edition. Context is this is right after shit hits the fan and people get infected with a virus that makes them sadistic cruel fricks and the protag ran home to switch channels and find out what happened.
The idea that the infected somehow managed to put this together so quickly just to frick with people is a little silly, but it really would frick with anyone in that situation.
