And better than any of them. There is not a single western that comes close to the story(simple as it is) or character building in RDR 1 or 2 and no amounts of muh cinematics, muh ebin acting muh deeper themes and philosophy muh gritty reality can change this fact. A video game has surpassed every single western in the last 70 years by a wide margin and only nostalgia gays, "old good new bad" homunculi and LARPing zoomers pretend otherwise
because the writing in it was pretty bad. there was dutch which was the leader but you could tell the writers designated him as a bad leader. then there was an antagonist to him which was micah and he was some cardboard cutout of bulletpoints of what what a villain should act as, so in the end it was all pretty formulaic
>almost every interaction with the characters boils down to: "we gotta lay low arthur" >almost every mission is a walk and talk followed by a shooting gallery where you kill more men than the spanish flu >go back to camp >"we gotta lay low arthur"
It surpassed nothing and would be laughed out of cinemas if it were a film.

It's also telling that once violence breaks out they're completely helpless and Arthur has to protect them. Oh and it's telling (and hilarious) that they need Arthur to drive. That entire mission is just taking pot shots at feminists and it's still too woke for you because you're such a weeping vegana. You can't kill any mission critical NPCs. That's how video games work. You can't shoot Dutch at any point in the game, even when he goes insane and gets everyone killed. >Imagine trying to get women by pretending to be their allies and going home to jerk off to fury porn and cry yourself to sleep.

The first three are just fine though. Their entire philosophy is freedom, just like the pirates, and they strongly believe in the American Dream: that you could leave England as a nobody and be your own man in the New World. Thus it would hypocrisy to start judging who a man is with, even if *you* wouldn't do that. *You* wouldn't kill your child, but she should have the freedom to choose. If a man can come to America and redefine himself, why can't a woman? Doesn't that mean we judge each by their character instead of their messed up past? Didn't Sadie earn the gang's respect by her deeds? The game was literally about choices and ended with this message. It's quite hard to refute the first three and are things the characters woulda actually say.
Nihilism and apathy have nothing to do with the American Dream or Westerns.
Anonymous
>American Dream
Did you even play this game? Their hatred of police and The Law in general was based in their strong belief in freedom. To the average person that just wants safety, they were all to eager to see an end to cowboys and modernize the West, but to the cowboys it was a massive loss of freedom and the end of their way of life. They spent so much time lamenting about the end of the era. How did you miss this?
Anonymous
They didn't hate the law because of "their belief" in freedom. The same way modern Black folk don't hate the law because of that. They hate the law because they want to kill, rob, and rape.
Anonymous
>They hate the law because they want to kill, rob, and rape.
Yes this is what they mean by freedom. There was literally a cutscene where they spelt this out for you but I can't remember the exact words. It's part of what makes this game interesting as it shows the perspective of criminals. They don't believe themselves to be evil and each has their own philosophy on why their actions are justified. In the case of cowboys and pirates it was freedom. With cowboys specifically, they attached it to the American Dream in that the country promised freedom but now wants to lay down the law and tell people how to live which despised. Dutch would always go on philosophical rants with the gang and that one cop they kept running into.

Are you serious? Are you saying everyone likes the game ironically then? People didn't actually like the main character or the gang but were all in on the joke and mockery? I don't think so. You said the American Dream but you're talking about outlaws in the western territories in the 19th century, and speaking as if it were ever legal to begin with until the turn of the century rather than it being a case of opportunists taking advantage of a lack of infrastructure to enforce laws in the newly developing territories.
Your definition of "The American Dream" still exists in parts of Africa.

Didn't Dutch say something to this effect when they ended up in South America? Referring to South America I mean. I'm literally explaining the story to you because you all seem so confused. The viewer sees it as a warping of what we would consider freedom. As in, we don't believe you're free to rob and murder. Yet you can't deny the fact that these criminals claimed that they were justified in doing what they did because "America believes in freedom." This was literally the plot of the game. You response is literally what the police what say to Dutch when he would try to explain his perspective to them.
That's not "freedom"

Subverting expectations is almost always a good thing. Who wants to watch a movie where everything goes perfectly according to plan and there are no surprises whatsoever? Just because a Star Wars movie did it wrong once doesn't invalidate it as a storytelling technique.
Subverting expectations in a video game is an entire different kettle of fish, RDR2 subverted the Rockstar Games trope of building up your character and getting richer as you progress by turning that on its head. It's certainly interesting and different, but it gimped the gameplay having your character get sicker as you neared the end of the game. And then the shift to the first games character felt like a completely different experience, not bad, just kind of jarring.
No, just more random things to do. It feels like the world is pretty much empty. There are those occasional random encounters and the cards games, but outside of that and the main story, there really isn't much to do
>there really isn't much to do
Have you tried hunting? That shit alone is an entire games worth of content alone
This scene was great especially if you played 1 and remember the goat soundtrack. Honestly feel like 2s was slightly lacking in comparison despite having a few heavy hitters.
start here I guess, although you've probably (hopefully) seen all these already if you're asking. that said basically any western would fit because all rockstar does is lift scenes straight out of movies
The Wild Bunch, it's one of the films that inspired the franchise and the inspiration for Dutch's posse.
West World if you are okay with having Sci Fi mixed in.
While it ends more in the Sci Fi genre the Western setting is one of the best and the closest to the feel of Red Dead.
I've started this game not too long ago (about 25% done with the story), and I've got a question for anons who have already played it. When does the game get fun? Yes it's a very beautiful looking game with lots of cool details, and an interesting story, but when does the gameplay actually become fun? All the game consists of is riding across empty, beautiful landscapes, shooting a couple people and repeating. That doesn't make a fun game imo
I remember really liking the first one, but I haven't played it since it came out. Maybe these types of games just aren't for me anymore
>All the game consists of is riding across empty, beautiful landscapes, shooting a couple people and repeating
You need more?
Yes. I don't have as much time to play games as I used to, so I want more out of my gameplay than just "ride 10 minutes across the map, shoot ten people, ride 10 minutes back"
No, just more random things to do. It feels like the world is pretty much empty. There are those occasional random encounters and the cards games, but outside of that and the main story, there really isn't much to do
It's not the kind of game you play through in a weekend. I play it sporadically and after a few months of playing I'm like 200 hours in and 60-something% through the story. I mostly do side missions, explore, do hunting and gathering stuff for camp upgrades, etc. There's a lot of random encounters in the game and hidden secrets to stumble on. Mini-games like poker and dominoes.
The random encounters you get on the trail are always fun, especially factions like the Night Folk, the issue is the way the in-game economy works. You get all the money you could need from doing missions and looting bodies, and the returns from hunting/minigames don't yield high enough returns to make them worth the effort.
> the returns from hunting/minigames don't yield high enough returns to make them worth the effort.
They aren't strictly for profit, they're supposed to be fun in their own right. It's fun to get a perfect cougar pelt and turn it in to a trapper to get a new herb pouch or donate it to the camp to get a new amenity
1 year ago
Anonymous
I'll get the Legendary creatures, get a few perfect pelts for the upgrades/outfits I want, but then grow bored with hunting pretty soon after that, especially since most of the animals will let you walk right up on them.
the first time I encountered the Night Folk was legitimately more tense than any horror game I've ever played.

Honestly the fact that they're purely a "random encounter" faction makes them that much better. No cutscene to give you time to anticipate what's about to happen.

Night Folk encounters are even MORE kino in first person mode
Try the first Red Dead Redemption, it's a better game per se, Red Dead 2 is more cinematic and a better overall experience but if you want more shooty shooty and horse chases the first game has that.
I already played the first one when it came out and really enjoyed it, which is why I'm so surprised that the second one just isn't sticking with me. If I want a more cinematic experience, I'll just watch a movie
the 4 or 5 hours that include the bank robbery, then comes Guarma, not a high point of the game, then the last 8 or so hours until the finale, it's the best moment of the game.
the epilogue is 5/10 but probably includes the best "western" moment going into the mountains to kill every single foe that crosses your path as the music score reaches kino status
RDR2 is less of a game and more of an interactive movie, the shitty Rockstar mechanics are there to guide you to have the most kino experience possible. If you can be fully engrossed in movies like Once Upon a Time in the West or The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly the entire time then if you take it slow in RDR2 you will have a great time. Also best played with no hud, though maybe not for first time unless familiar with how Rockstar games play
t. replayed both games unknown amount of times
rdr2 is mostly wild bunch + assassination of jesse james + butch cassidy and sundance kid + tarantino westerns maybe?
also you've propably already did, but watch sergio leone's movies
you have to admit when it's on rails the controls are extremely frustrating. the game ignores most of your inputs and won't do anything unless you push the stick in the right direction. just make it a goddamn cutscene
The controls are slow so the animations look more cinematic and realistic. Just like you have to pass the pages on the menu at the gun shop. It's all part of the experience.
>It's all part of the experience
Why are redditors like this? It's the same defence I've seen of the blur and seizure inducing post processing in Cuphead.
My issue with RDR2 as a story is that for 100 hours you're Arthur and playing his story, and the ending to his story it just a set up for John's story. I hate it. They should've let Arthur finish his own story and made the John epilogue separate.
>They should've let Arthur finish his own story
they did, protecting his family until the last moment. I don't think there's a better ending for him, riding into the sunset with that widow? nah, arthur dies as a hero betrayed by a rat and his derrailed mentor, watching the sun rising, in peace.
Everything Arthur wanted never came true. His family died, his lover left him and the gang dissolved >John gets Arthur's ring and gets to realize every dream Arthur had
People really didn't understand the epilogue huh?
Arthur should have been the backstabber IMO. It's silly for John to not say one word about him in 1 if he was such a big presence in his life. It would've been more interesting than le evil mustache twirler is le bad guy.
It's not boomers. It's women that enjoy it. I literally watched the show for 8 episodes and was so fed up with the obnoxious "Women can do anything" message that I didn't care to finish the last two episodes
kbm has the option to just press shift to gallop full speed and put that on a toggle, also the horses with kbm tend to "dodge" trees automatically, freeaiming with a mouse is way easier than with a controller.
Surprised none of you Black folk thrown out The assassination of Jesse James by the cowered Robert Ford.
RDR2 literally copied the movie, hell, the train mission is an exact shot to shot of the iconic train robbery.
Purely for actually watchable Westerns that weren't made in gritty 35mm I recommend True Grit and Hostiles (although the ending to the latter one kinda falls flat the rest is definitely watchable)

Doctor, he’s had three times the legal amount of Copium. I don’t think he’s ever going to have sex
>Unforgiven
Plato in RDR2 is pretty clearly based on the author from Unforgiven. It shares themes of legends just being legends, the end of an era, etc.
Munny is so much more badass than Arthur, though. >I'll see you in hell, William Munny >"Yeah."
I think Lenny mentions about people calling him a "Black person" during one mission with Arthur, and being mistreated in general... Shame we never get to see it. Instead we're just being told about it despite the fact that Lenny and Charles are treated no different than the rest of the crew when they go out to town or anywhere.
love westerns. tried this game and it's boring.
there, I said it. tried the online and it's ok, broken as frick and after some searching to fix broken shit everyone agrees it's broken as frick.
Red Dead was heavily influenced by The Proposition (to the point they even hired the director to direct cut scenes) and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert.
>torture people >kill people >rob people >but sexism and racism is simply too le bad for them
Cringe. Also most women in outlaw gangs were prostitutes but there’s only two prostitutes in the gang. The only thing it got right is that most of these criminals would have been spics, Black folk, and mulatto mutts led by a white man.
Abigail is canonically a prostitute only because it was written in the first game. The soi writers of the 2nd wouldn't have the balls to write a female character being a fricktoy to the male gang members
From a technical standpoint, it's a marvel. But my god what a SJW shitfest. Why is it that being a murderous, thieving, stealing, cheating bastard is looked as something noble to be portrayed in today's society, but OH NO NOT THE ROICISMO, ANYTHING BUT THAT.
Even fricking Micah can barely be considered anything more than a MIGApede in a fricking Western settings. It drags the whole game down when you have to constantly be barraged with white apologism and self-lashing for some imaginary crimes.
Kek everyone who's even mildly racist either immediately gets killed or is a villain
Cringe writing, shit characters and exaggerated story. It makes the first one look like a masterpiece in comparison
Any western from 1950 to 1980. Red Dead is just a pastiche of classic western movies
Decent bait, a little wordy though, try to trim the fat
I don't even remember what the plot is. To me, the game was about exploring and trading furs. The characters meant nothing to me
because the writing in it was pretty bad. there was dutch which was the leader but you could tell the writers designated him as a bad leader. then there was an antagonist to him which was micah and he was some cardboard cutout of bulletpoints of what what a villain should act as, so in the end it was all pretty formulaic
Oh fissure b
Some would say the westernest
Bneast of a game
Once upon a time in the west and The Good the Bad and the Ugly are better than that though
Tried watching the former this past weekend. It's literal dogshit.
nah, it's pretty good, very good in fact, but not better than the source
>wife is taking another girls trip to Jamaica
MAY I STAND UNSHAKEN
>almost every interaction with the characters boils down to: "we gotta lay low arthur"
>almost every mission is a walk and talk followed by a shooting gallery where you kill more men than the spanish flu
>go back to camp
>"we gotta lay low arthur"
It surpassed nothing and would be laughed out of cinemas if it were a film.
why do Cinemaphileermin shitpost so hard about this game? Nothing about it was significant to me and I barely play vidya.
lmao
how?

Just because Arthur and the gang have the social sensibilities of your average 21st century lefty, doesn't mean it's not rife with references to western classics.
>Marriage? A sacred institution? Heh, it's anything but in my experience, brother, I can tell you that. If two fellers wanna tie the knot, who am I ta say no? If the Lord ain't judged our gang, I'd say he's been takin' some time off the job, yer probably safe. Heh heh. Have at it, I say.
>Abortion? Well, that's a rough one. Bit of a tough pill to swaller. At first, I didn't rightly take kindly to the idea of killin' babies, but Dutch gave me this ole thick science book and I pretty much surmised that well, that thing is about as human as Micah here, which is lackin' to say the least, heh. Hell, I'd say a gal has the right to choose.
>A gal? As president? Well, what I can tell ya is its been nothin' but fellers since this whole thing here started up and what have we got? A bunch of other dead fellers. What have we got ta lose? I reckon' tryin' a gal's touch wouldn't do anyone no harm. If weakness is a concern of yours, I promise you some of the ladies runnin' in my gang would probably make Old Hickory look like a nancy in comparison. Hell, I'd reckon its her turn.
>Lettin' a black feller do yer wife? Well, if the old lady's havin' fun, who am I to deny her that? I reckon that feller's got a bigger one than me anyway. Besides, we gotta pay some back for that whole slavery bid'ness we did to them. Dutch raised me and I ain't his real son, so I'll raise my wife's son, whether he's black or white.
>Cuttin off yer willie sure sound silly but I reckon a feller might as well chop it off he ain't goin use it. And i suppose a wig can't do harm neither, heck men use to wear em all the time back in oldin' days.
None of this is in the video game, it has very mild lefty undertones cause it was made in the 21st century but not near as exagerrated as in your post
Exaggeration is a big aspect of parody, anon.
The fact that you can't perma kill the woman's rights b***h is telling. Imagine being a beta homosexual IRL.
I can't think of anything more beta than trying to take your aggression over women not wanting to date you out on a fictional video game lady and throwing a tantrum when the video game doesn't let you because she's a mission critical NPC
The fact that she is a mission critical npc and the only dialogue Arthur has for her is to agree is telling.
Imagine trying to get women by pretending to be their allies and going home to jerk off to fury porn and cry yourself to sleep.
>The fact that she is a mission critical NPC and the only dialogue Arthur has for her is to agree is telling.
Wow, imagine projecting this hard.
>"Dutch is just as important as the woman's rights lady"
I haven't seen anyone reeee this hard in defense of women since I logged into Twitter five minutes ago
>"Dutch is just as important as the woman's rights lady"
He's far more important, actually. But thanks for proving my point. The entire point of the woman's suffrage mission is that they're incredibly naive and their marches accomplish absolutely nothing. Arthur only did it as a favor to Beau Gray.
10 year old mixed race boys twerk at gay pride parades while adults clap.
>"Women's rights accomplished nothing."
Whataboutism has never accomplished anything either.
>incel ties himself up into such a pretzel that he's suddenly arguing for the effectiveness of the women's rights movement
comedy gold
After about 9 "you're an incel" posts, you'd think you'd see the irony in claiming I was the one projecting.
>NO U
10 posts*
Kek. Pot, meet kettle.
No matter how much you scream for it to be true, it never will be
It is though, is the thing. You can't make fun of someone for replying to all your posts when you're replying to all their posts, you idiot.
Them replying to my posts was never a subject of the conversation
I think you missed something along the way
You're a grown man who lives with his parents. Relax.
hey look at that! guess there's more than one person ITT calling you a moron, huh?
Kek. I actually did just move in with my parents. Divorce is a hell of a thing.
Well that explains why you're so angry at least.
I'm angry, but not about that. About kids being groomed and society normalizing killing babies and striving to be an influencer as a career.
Basically every single societal, political and environmental problem we have can be traced directly back to overpopulation. Yes, let's kill babies like it's going out of style.
We're "over populated" with the wrong people. And I'd argue every issue can be traced back to giving women rights.
Also, there is no environmental problem, you gay. Stop drinking the kool-aid
The best part is that you don’t deny being a seething incel and you’re genuinely crying mad that you can’t kill feminists in video games
You absolute fricking permavirgin loser, ahaha
Don’t have a nice day, your life is too funny
I’m so in your head I know you were feverishly ready to start hammering “Reddit spacing” on your cum-and-tear encrusted keys
bro you need to take a break from the internet you're not smart enough to handle it, its breaking you
>can’t even manage a denial he’s so broken
>the best he can do is “touch grass”
Ahahahaha, cope moar chudcel
excessive use of Cinemaphile/internet without a balance causes brain rot, interacting with these anons is a complete waste of time as they are either trolling for (You)s or incapable of original thought
Said the Cinemaphileirgin
I say this unironically...
Take your meds
Can't kill the Injuns either
I don't think you can perma kill anyone unless it's scripted, the rapist in the swamp showed up again after I shot him
The fact that the only dialogue option you have is to agree is telling
>Arthur: "uhh... yeah sure whatever"
>SEE HE'S AGREEING! THIS GAME IS SO WOKE I WANT MY MONEY BACK
>An 1800's outlaw kills, robs, and rapes for a living doesn't laugh in the face of a women's rights advocate
Actually he pretty much does.
"Sure, why not"
We should've been allowed to shoot her right then and there for realism
>yeah I may kill, rob, and torture, but at least I'm not a racist chud 🙂
>not laughing at someone means you agree with them
Yeah.... Nah.
Also he does poke fun at her cause. At least educate yourself on the topic before humiliating yourself.
Educate myself on the topic... Of...? Rockstar Games?
Of the game you're fricking discussing, stating things that are incorrect.
I've already said a few times he says something along the lines of "Sure, why not".
Why are you so triggered over this? I bet you paused the game at that moment to clap and raised your fist in solidarity
>Why are you so triggered over this?
The question you should ask yourself. When you can spin a throwaway line into outrage over gender politics.
>"Throwaway line"
There is an entire mission and cutscene around her.
>around her.
No it's around the Romeo/Juliett copy.
Arthur drives her and her gang around while the sing songs of equality
The writers really went for the realism
What John Wayne movie is this?
Meant for you
The one written by Jordan Peele starring Beyonce called "Wrancher"
Arthur also takes part in this signing and shows his support for their cause!
"No, that never happened, Chud. You're just an incel!" Haha! I got em good!"
here you go
This was really meh and boring if nothing else but I got secondhand embarrassment riding with Lenny on that one mission and Arthur starts apologizing as Lenny starts talking about some nonspecific time he dealt with racism in Rhodes. So cringe.
NTA but why do deny that they made their main character as politically safe and palatable for modern audiences as possible? Or are you just upset that some people have the "wrong" reaction to it?
Where have I ever denied it? I just think it's pathetic to act outraged and turn this into some massive deal.
Ah so it's the latter then
Not him but I do get annoyed when the positive and negative reactions are basically the same thing.
>Women's rights? Hey, good idea, pardner!
>WOMEN'S rights? ... Heh.... well, I guess that's fair anyway
That's bad writing
You can't permakill the eugenicist either
Good
It's way too in character. In game, you can clearly see how the writer change to a HR rep as soon as the subject gets there.
>Hell, I'd reckon its her turn.
never fails to make me chuckle
They didn't hate the law because of "their belief" in freedom. The same way modern Black folk don't hate the law because of that. They hate the law because they want to kill, rob, and rape.
That's not "freedom"
I bet you think the word "democracy" means fascism too
The game beats you over the head with it, I simply didn't buy it.
It was obviously made by soi slurping Torontonians (or worse) who despise the West. The protagonist sounds like he's mocking Clint Eastwood with every line. It is insufferable.
Are you serious? Are you saying everyone likes the game ironically then? People didn't actually like the main character or the gang but were all in on the joke and mockery? I don't think so. Most people genuinely liked all the characters, and despite us hating them killing and stealing, felt sorry for their fate. Did we play the same game? Not sure what's wrong with Cinemaphile today.
I'm not even convinced that people liked it as much as the marketing campaign implied. It is the 66th most played game on Steam right now, which for the greatest game ever made is pretty bad after only 3 years.
Going by current players is pretty unfair for a narrative game though. You play it once, think about it, and maybe play it again in a couple months or years.
when it was released on pc it came out on Rockstar's launcher a month (?) before Steam release
for like 20 hours of content IF you enjoy grinding in video games, but even then, no, helps if you have a friend to play with
>for like 20 hours of content IF you enjoy grinding in video games, but even then, no, helps if you have a friend to play with
heh, i bought the game like 2 weeks before it got cracked because i fell victim to the shilling saying its so great (its not)
then i tried to get my moneys worth with online and hooo-boy is it bad
shan't be giving rockstar anymore shekels ever again
You said the American Dream but you're talking about outlaws in the western territories in the 19th century, and speaking as if it were ever legal to begin with until the turn of the century rather than it being a case of opportunists taking advantage of a lack of infrastructure to enforce laws in the newly developing territories.
Your definition of "The American Dream" still exists in parts of Africa.
>still exists in parts of Africa
Didn't Dutch say something to this effect when they ended up in South America? Referring to South America I mean. I'm literally explaining the story to you because you all seem so confused. The viewer sees it as a warping of what we would consider freedom. As in, we don't believe you're free to rob and murder. Yet you can't deny the fact that these criminals claimed that they were justified in doing what they did because "America believes in freedom." This was literally the plot of the game. You response is literally what the police what say to Dutch when he would try to explain his perspective to them.
Yeah you guys didn't play this game. No use talking about video games on Television and Film.
I've spent 50 hours of my life shooting squirrels, birds, and chipmunks with a bow and arrow. Don't tell me I didn't play the game.
lmao imagine being such an easily triggered rightie snowflake that fricking Red Dead Redemption 2 is too woke for you
>getting butthurt by a copypasta
laughing at idiots is being butthurt now?
Yeah, the butthurt in your post was palpable, and masking it by feigning amusement literally never works. Cope and sneed.
>the butthurt in your post was palpable, and masking it by feigning amusement literally never works
oh the ironing
>NO U
Wew
RDR2 is unironically more woke than most vidya pre-2015
this game is mix of christianity and libertarianism
only cringe part is that mission with suffragettes and sadie adler post-guarma
>only cringe part is that mission with suffragettes
the mission where the women can't even ride a carriage down the street by themselves without enlisting a big burly mountain man for protection? Said big burly mountain man also being the one who drives? Wow, how frightfully woke.
Meds. Now
Red dead 1 yes, red dead 2 subvert expectations but in an actual good way.
And then the shift to the first games character felt like a completely different experience, not bad, just kind of jarring.
>there really isn't much to do
Have you tried hunting? That shit alone is an entire games worth of content alone
It subverted my expectations alright, in the sense that I expected it to be a video game that you play
Red Dead Redemption 2
The wild bunch
Video game can’t be kino
>Video game can’t be kin-
How did they do it?
I unironcally shouted kino at these moments
This scene was great especially if you played 1 and remember the goat soundtrack. Honestly feel like 2s was slightly lacking in comparison despite having a few heavy hitters.
>you now hear american venom playing in your head
>Movies like this?
There are a lot of really bad Westerns.
3:10 to Yuma is GOD TIER and I wasted a lot of my life thinking it was just some gay western shit.
Watch it if you haven't already.
Tombstone is a good entry-level comfy western. You should marathon it.
Tombstone is a perfect babby's first Western. Just a good movie all around.

start here I guess, although you've probably (hopefully) seen all these already if you're asking. that said basically any western would fit because all rockstar does is lift scenes straight out of movies

Lonesome Dove
Bone Tomahawk
The Wild Bunch, it's one of the films that inspired the franchise and the inspiration for Dutch's posse.
West World if you are okay with having Sci Fi mixed in.
While it ends more in the Sci Fi genre the Western setting is one of the best and the closest to the feel of Red Dead.
Original Westworld movie is fricking great.
Check it out you bastards.
There will be blood
Cast the HBO adaptation!
That's a pretty good casting tho
You're a moron. have a nice day.
Another movie that I'm sure inspired the game
Saw this week ago and i instantly thought that RDR2 loaned from this a lot. Great film.
That's the most common criticism, and if you don't enjoy it yet, the game probably isn't for you. It's definitely a very "on the rails" kind of game.
I remember really liking the first one, but I haven't played it since it came out. Maybe these types of games just aren't for me anymore
Yes. I don't have as much time to play games as I used to, so I want more out of my gameplay than just "ride 10 minutes across the map, shoot ten people, ride 10 minutes back"
>I want more out of my gameplay than just "ride 10 minutes across the map, shoot ten people, ride 10 minutes back"
like what? Jump puzzles?
I'll get the Legendary creatures, get a few perfect pelts for the upgrades/outfits I want, but then grow bored with hunting pretty soon after that, especially since most of the animals will let you walk right up on them.
>donate $20,000 to camp
>Dutch still needs money for his plan
Dude, just look at our savings. Let's fricking go to Tahiti you sum'bitch.
the first time I encountered the Night Folk was legitimately more tense than any horror game I've ever played.
Honestly the fact that they're purely a "random encounter" faction makes them that much better. No cutscene to give you time to anticipate what's about to happen.
Exactly. I had no idea what the frick was even happening. I just stumbled on this macabre shrine made out of human body parts and suddenly I hear this weird hissing and before I even have a chance to react I get swarmed from all sides. Getting jumped by an alligator is also fricking terrifying. The swamps in general in RDR2 are fricked.
Npc take
>feeling emotions is for homosexuals
You'll grow up some day
that mothercker that's crying on the swamp as the other night folk rose from the water is great stuff
I was tracking an unknown animal that led to a crying woman in the swamp, got sliced with only a sliver of health left and these motherfrickers jumping out from behind trees at me. Killed em all and made Arthur go change his pants without talking to anyone in camp. Not now Swanson, I ain't got time for your shit.
You're a braver man than me. I just got on my horse and rode like the wind. Never went back into the swamps after dark unless I had to for a mission, like that one with the giant alligator.
Night Folk encounters are even MORE kino in first person mode
>All the game consists of is riding across empty, beautiful landscapes, shooting a couple people and repeating
You need more?
Never. It's a millennial movie-game.
It gets good when it sinks in what's gonna happen to Arthur.
rdr2 is mostly wild bunch + assassination of jesse james + butch cassidy and sundance kid + tarantino westerns maybe?
also you've propably already did, but watch sergio leone's movies
I gave up about 3-4 missions in, the controls were too clumsy and frustrating and the story was boring.
the snow chapter is the tutorial dipshit. the game doesn't start until you descend from the mountains on the wagon (which is pure kino)
>kino
*goyslop
I bet you're the type of homosexual who believes Winter Soldier was good
you have to admit when it's on rails the controls are extremely frustrating. the game ignores most of your inputs and won't do anything unless you push the stick in the right direction. just make it a goddamn cutscene
The controls are slow so the animations look more cinematic and realistic. Just like you have to pass the pages on the menu at the gun shop. It's all part of the experience.
I was talking about when you're in the snow path and you can't even walk left or right.
I have a way better ending for Arthur's story.
>I have a way better ending for Arthur's story.
No you don't.
Sure I do
>They should've let Arthur finish his own story
they did, protecting his family until the last moment. I don't think there's a better ending for him, riding into the sunset with that widow? nah, arthur dies as a hero betrayed by a rat and his derrailed mentor, watching the sun rising, in peace.
>arthur dies as a hero
after he killed about a thousand people throughout the game
Don't forget all those turkeys and rabbits
They should've just had Arthur say "Here John, take my hat. You're the future of this franchise."
Everything Arthur wanted never came true. His family died, his lover left him and the gang dissolved
>John gets Arthur's ring and gets to realize every dream Arthur had
People really didn't understand the epilogue huh?
Arthur should have been the backstabber IMO. It's silly for John to not say one word about him in 1 if he was such a big presence in his life. It would've been more interesting than le evil mustache twirler is le bad guy.
1883 by Paramount+
>17 year old girl in 1883 fricks multiple men within weeks and her father approves. Powerful. Glad that 19tg century rancher is such an ally
How is this show even popular with the boomer crowd? I feel like a detail like this would piss them off.
It's not boomers. It's women that enjoy it. I literally watched the show for 8 episodes and was so fed up with the obnoxious "Women can do anything" message that I didn't care to finish the last two episodes
Bros should I play this with a controller or kbm? I know it's a shooter but kbm controls seem kinda clunky
Rockstar games are awful on kbm
You can't be a proper deadeye with a controller
kbm has the option to just press shift to gallop full speed and put that on a toggle, also the horses with kbm tend to "dodge" trees automatically, freeaiming with a mouse is way easier than with a controller.
Did anyone find that small church in the bayou? Small like only little people would fit inside it. Was that connected to anything?
Did RDR2 ever get a GOTY edition?
No Rockstar is just a company that occasionally pushes updates to GTA Online now.
The code?
Surprised none of you Black folk thrown out The assassination of Jesse James by the cowered Robert Ford.
RDR2 literally copied the movie, hell, the train mission is an exact shot to shot of the iconic train robbery.
it's cause the game takes from almost every influential western, it really is all the greatest hits throughout the whole game
I hate everyone on this website. You're all edgy zoomers who are injected 24/7 with IRONY
and SARCASM lol FR FR. Fricking Black folk.
Purely for actually watchable Westerns that weren't made in gritty 35mm I recommend True Grit and Hostiles (although the ending to the latter one kinda falls flat the rest is definitely watchable)
Boring and excruciatingly long? Pretty much anything that has ever won an Oscar.
Western stuff? Just look up western movies.
Is online worth it?

Man, hats off to you if you care enough about rp'ing to walk your horse all the way back to the butcher, I'm sprinting that b***h all the way there
>Unforgiven
Plato in RDR2 is pretty clearly based on the author from Unforgiven. It shares themes of legends just being legends, the end of an era, etc.
Munny is so much more badass than Arthur, though.
>I'll see you in hell, William Munny
>"Yeah."
I just finished reading Blood Meridian and I thought it was funny how they called Inidans Black folk. Is the n word used in rdr2 at all?
Only "Black folks" and "darkies"
Never heard anyone saying Black person
No. The MC actually risks his life several time to defend the honor of his black companions
I think Lenny mentions about people calling him a "Black person" during one mission with Arthur, and being mistreated in general... Shame we never get to see it. Instead we're just being told about it despite the fact that Lenny and Charles are treated no different than the rest of the crew when they go out to town or anywhere.
No he says something like "to them I'm just a Black person" referring to the dixie types you were living around at that part of the game.
In that same mission a Lemoyne Raider will call Lenny a Black person if you wait a bit
Don't expect anything genuine from this game. It's pure, undistilled goyslop.
Let me guess, you think Elden Ring isn't goyslop?
>Hack away, you mean red Black person
Wtf was glantons problem
Yeah I've heard it used a couple of times
love westerns. tried this game and it's boring.
there, I said it. tried the online and it's ok, broken as frick and after some searching to fix broken shit everyone agrees it's broken as frick.
Is it better now?
>finally get paid enough to buy a new pair of sidearms

how about a book like that you plebian Black person homosexual?
nothing compares
Red Dead was heavily influenced by The Proposition (to the point they even hired the director to direct cut scenes) and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert.
>The Proposition
How? That guy on the cover looks like John but that's about it
John Hillcoat? all he did was make that short film for rdr1, how was he involved more than that?
>torture people
>kill people
>rob people
>but sexism and racism is simply too le bad for them
Cringe. Also most women in outlaw gangs were prostitutes but there’s only two prostitutes in the gang. The only thing it got right is that most of these criminals would have been spics, Black folk, and mulatto mutts led by a white man.
Abigail is canonically a prostitute only because it was written in the first game. The soi writers of the 2nd wouldn't have the balls to write a female character being a fricktoy to the male gang members
>we all had her John

It makes the first one look like a masterpiece in comparison
nobody itt has any real understanding of the wild west

I'm spiritually a cowboy. I understand it intrinsically.
