I would say certain kinds of men ('romantics') understand it innately, it speaks to something archetypal to the male imagination

It's a two-sided film though, it has a side relatable to a female experience of growing into their sexuality, and it also has a side that speaks to the experience of being young men drawn to and bewildered by women and seeing them as mysterious and partly unknowable

          >People often claim that their watches and electronic devices stop working as they approach the outcrop and the town of Woodend nearby boasts an Anti-Gravity Hill. On its incline cars and other objects mysteriously find themselves rolling up, rather than down, the slope.

Tbh when the frumpy old teacher that dissapeared too explained that the rocks are made from underground magma i thought the implication was that the rocks risen up from hell. Like, i thought it was the narrative implication

There's an explanation to the story, what happened to them, because the author initially wrote it that way but then realized it was better to leave it a mystery. You can easily look it up. People use to think it wasn't true but it was, that original ending.

One of my favourites. I want to ask David Lynch if he ever saw this film because it has a lot of his standards - unexplainable mystery, beautiful women with lesbian tendencies, airy piano and synth soundtracks etc.

I don't know that i've ever watched a movie I didn't understand. What was I not understanding about Picnic at Hanging Rock? It was a fine film, I absolutely loved the ending, powerful stuff.
