A movie that would work would be to have the monster represent something medical, like a stroke or heart attack. People are eating, smoking, sitting and watching tv. Then the worst monster you can think of just walks through the room, and some smart ass comic is the only one who sees it.
I'm old enough to have used one of those phones and no matter what amount of dirt you put into it, it doesn't become a fricking mallet.
