I was happy enough just to get the bluray. Having only watched a crappy rip of the old DVD before I had no idea the movie ever looked as good as it does.
I would never want to watch EoE with other Evangelion fans
I saw the last rebuild in the theater and in the suburbs it was pretty normal. Only one person in cosplay and it was a teenage girl who's mom was smart enough to go with her.
>Why do kids like to do fun kid stuff?
She was like 16 max and probably worked hard on her Rei outfit and the only people who are going to appreciate that are the waifugays willing to spend $15 to see a movie that had already been out for over a year. If it was an adult then yeah that would be weird.
The instrumentality depicted in the anime is unrealistic because others won't unconditionally validate you. So the movie makes it more like, you have to try to reach out even though it hurts and even though you learn the lessons from the anime over and over nothing sticks but you have to keep trying
shit's fricked but it can get better
asuka accepted shinji despite all the shit he did, she doesn't have to be happy with him though
everyone who got tang'd will come back eventually, they just have to find a reason to live
It's coming to a few theaters near me quite soon. Never watched Evangalion, but I will have to watch it in time. My answer overall would be 2001: A Space Odyssey.
I like Evangelion quite a bit. I hope you enjoy your watch. 2001 is a good choice. As far as Kubrick goes Barry Lyndon is my favorite. It's so slow and still so captivating. Truly a fascinating film.
It really is impressive how much Evangelion is elevated by the music. If the music sucked, I don't think I ever would have gave a shit about this show.
you can say that about most movies. can you picture the good the bad and the ugly without ahahahah wa wa wa
Came here to say this. I allready bought my tickets.

we should go together
If it's the Netflix dub why bother?

I'm reminded of the scene right after the end of the live action theater sequence where several fan letters flash across the screen. Reading these letters, one finds them to be fan mail which all reference parallels felt between the character Shinji and the viewers. Clearly, the creators are trying to get the fans to see themselves in Shinji, thereby causing them to also see Shinji in themselves. Before this, we see Shinji in the initial stages of instrumentality- a project designed by a global-elite deep state called SEELE. This plan is to take humanity, which has always been segregated and unite them as one. In this scene, Shinji is convinced that he should just give up and die- an obvious message to the audience that resistance to their plans are futile. Also, the Japanese title of the series hints at the intended message; "New Beginning Gospel" describes that this series is the gospel of a new beginning or a new world. Furthermore, Gendo makes a blatent reference to Huxley's Brave New World within the first five minutes. This novel of course outlines the vision of a totalitarian one world regime. They even explain their justification at the end when Rei narrates: "This world is overflowing with sorrow. Its people drowning in emptiness. Lonliness fills their hearts." The implication is that we as humans may as well just be put out of misery because of our depressions. This is ironic, considering all those traits are ones that Shinji exhibits and which they wish for we as the audience to adopt as well. Thanks for reading.
now go a step further and realize that instrumentality is portrayed as a bad thing. the shadow government are not good guys. the theme is the movie is that this is bad and that we should keep on living even if the going gets tough, and that relationships are hard, but worth it.
It ends with a message telling you to stop being depressed and obsessed with robots and get on with your life even though it's going to be difficult

You're forgetting the very last segment when Shinji is the last remaining human being while Giant Naked Rei essentially grants him the power to either complete Instrumentality or stop it in its tracks returning to the default state of the world- one indeed filled with sorrow and pain but also the chance to be happy if you try. That's the message: not that happiness is guaranteed but (You) have to at least make the attempt and not forsake the company of others.
Also don't you find it ironic that the kid who has the least to live for with a shattered ego and zero sense of self-worth still chose individuality over the safety and security of an consolidated unified collective super entity?
I fantasize about watching this movie in Japan at night and then going out in Tokyo and doing random shit for fun by myself. All the memes shitting on Japan are great because it's gatekeeping it in a way. The movie also captured the ambience so well, a total fluke by the director.
this shit would be insane on the big screen

why do people wear costumes to the cinema. You're there to look at the screen not the audience.

I haven't seen it advertised anywhere but EoE is getting a pried-from-gainax-cold-dead-hands run in the US in March.

>CAN'T EVEN CRY FROM THE PAIN
Great song. The entire soundtrack was filled with bangers.
I've listened to komm susser todd daily for almost a year

If you're in the Cleveland Area sure. I could use more weeb friends.
I am not.
This movie is literally NWO propaganda disguised as art.
I've never seen somebody miss the point this hard. If you were competing in archery then you just turned around and shot the opposite way.
If you anons will explain some of your reasoning, I'll explain some of mine.
Explain yours first. I genuinely can't imagine how you'd reach that conclusion.

>I WISH THAT I COULD TURN BACK TIME
I went to 3.0+1.11 in the cinema and that ruled.
Akira, Napoleon (1927), Lawrence of Arabia, anything Kurosawa.
I want to meet this dude
I wish I was in the sakuracon 2009 commercial
You can rent a theater at any major theater and play any movie you want.
That’s expensive
I finally saw Akira on 35mm after many many years.
I believe some day I will see The End of Evangelion too.
An Eng subbed print definitely exists.
The independent cinema by me that used to play "The Thing" once a year was bulldozed so I'm having trouble enjoying going out to watch movies anymore.
