It's not really anti-religious though, plenty of the priests are good people including Ted himself and I don't remember any atheist characters who were supposed to be morally good (or any atheist characters at all honestly).

Nah, but apparently the dude who played Ted wasn't just an atheist, but a critic of Catholicism and the church. No idea why he'd sincerely want to play a priest. Thought it was interesting.

Oh I see. Dermot Morgan ripped the piss out of everyone in the 80s and 90s, he was Ireland's biggest comedian and got away with a lot of shit in what was a hugely grim, humourless and backwards Ireland.

I'm not anti-religious or atheist myself, but the Church had such a grip over Irish society that they became the main target for obvious reasons. Now it's mostly dead and things are worse than ever. I remember seeing somebody post about Monty Python before - where they spent the 70s and 80s being subversive, now their enemies are gone and now they are the enemy to a new generation... or something like that.

How come brits are such obnoxious atheists? In any other country atheists are like "No, I don't believe." but in Britain they get really fumed if you suggest you are a theist.

It's not uniquely british thing. You see it all over western world. US is only place that is only exception and barely

The US doesn’t have as many obnoxious atheists as other places?

It has plenty of them in the cities, but it also has more genuinely religious people so it kind of cancels out.

people in america largely dont give a frick about other people or what they think, in general
ignoring the loud crazy ones that scream on the internet, of course

People everywhere mostly don’t give a frick what other people do with themselves. America is literally the home of leftist busy bodies who want to tell everyone EXACTLY how to live their lives

not actually when you're out and about, i live in a "leftist" city in red state and some dumb b***h at the dog park tried to rally the park and get them all against me because me dog barked at her (because she had food) and i just made moron noises at her and told her to shut the frick up and everyone laughed

Nice. I get shit off people regularly when walking my dog too. Some old b***h shouted at me once at 6am in the morning for walking my dog across a patch of grass that had a no dogs sign on it, I just replied “why are you such a horrible person?” And she shut up, it gets to the point where I feel like I really want to physically beat the frick out of the next person that says anything to me when I’m walking my dogs

Shit I was about to name a bunch but forgot they are in fact British. Sam Harris is the only one I can think of. Dude spends more time talking about God than a pastor.

Kind of an ironic question seeing as the show is created by Irish and set in Ireland.

No they don't. The queen of bongland virtually gives a Christian sermon each year and people love it. She doesn't beat around the bush either, she literally talks about Jesus Christ matter of factly.

The British royal family still believe their authority comes from God and anyone that doesn't outright oppose the monarchy in Britain tacitly agrees with them.

he LITERALLY said that british athiests get mad, not the average british person

The Queen is literally the head of the Church of England. The house of lord (our version of the senate) has bishops in it, just because they are Bishops.

England is technically a theocracy that is in practice run by progressive atheists.

I mean the entire show is a giant piss take of Catholicism so what did you expect? It's at least still relatively mild and actually makes the main characters into good and likeable people. Lots of Catholics and Christians in general enjoyed the show because of this. The average episode of The Simpsons has harsher riffs on religion/Christianity than Father Ted.
