He didn't regress entirely. Murphy's humanity is a constant struggle, and what he was experiencing was depression upon the realization that he could never be the husband his ex needed. He chose to retreat into his work/machinery because it was the lesser pain
That's actually a pretty deep and profound thought. I'm in agreement, especially since my favorite part was when RoboCop was stalking his former wife and they had her come in to talk to him directly. She felt how robotic and cold he was. That's when Murphy had to retreat back into his robotic prison.
The reboot misses all of that character building. They just have RoboCop hang out with his son and watch Red Wings games. Then Robo rescues them at the end. Totally missed the point that RoboCop can't have a family. Not anymore.
The reboot tried to do a reverse thing where he starts out sane but slowly loses his humanity but becomes meaningless when it was just a temporary thing induced by drugs/software. That and his death lacks personal investment, going from a firing squad to a generic explosion.
One of the things original Murphy struggles with is accepting that the old him legit died. He regains a portion of who he was thanks to memories, but he acknowledges he's not that man anymore.

I hear ya. That was the best scene of the entire film where they show Murphy that he's not a man anymore, he's a product. They fricking pull apart his exoskeleton and reveal that he's just a brain with lungs. It was horrifying.
The writer admitted there was no point in making a sequel because the story has already ended and RoboCop's arc was complete. But he needed the job and the studio wanted the money. Could have been worse.
Man, that guy was so happy. While everybody was crouching in horror he even standed up to catch every second of that ultraviolence. I bet he also would get a better parking lot and access to the VIP bathroom, because when a Dick falls, a Johnson rises.
I used to think the best part of the soundtrack was the classic main theme, but I noticed that in the ending they put only some seconds and then they climax with the road to the theme. It's as if they knew happiness can't be better than it's hype.

I paid like a dollar to fund a giant RoboCop statue in Detroit. Was gonna be placed prominently in front of an art museum, like the statue of Rocky.
Then BLM happened and I stopped getting updates. Last I checked, they had to hide it in some park or something. Because Police = BAD.
