Musicals are the dumbest type of movie

The musical episode of Buffy is easily in the top 5 in the series. You're just stupid.

Vincente Minnelli's musicals are pretty good
    Also:
    Umbrellas of Cherbourg
    Young Girls of Rochefort
    Guys and Dolls
    Anything with Fred Astair

It's a lost art though. Hollywood forgot how to make a good musical.

La La Land did a good job at blending an old school musical style and more modern film-making. Was very impressed.

Listening to the soundtrack after watching the movie for the first time. Lovely movie. Made me cry a couple times, I wish I could fall in love with someone again

Was it kino? I generally fricking hate NY/LA porn movies but I've heard very good things about it and like the cast and aesthetic.

        >Was it kino?
It has good music and I found it really affecting, and the ending fantastic. Definitely the best "nod to old hollywood in modern style" type movies I've seen.

          Yeah it's great

I didn't like it much, the only thing that feels like a real musical is the starting song then it devolves into Hollywood wank/romance slop without any fun pieces

Interesting coming from Cinemaphile who usually shit and rape movies like this hard, definitely putting it on the list

Do musical numbers not typically take place in-universe? Except for dream sequences or hallucinations like the Scrubs musical episode.

I meant the captain america performance was him actually performing a musical on-stage in front of other characters in the film, it was staged. it was not captain america realising his true goal and singing out of emotion.
