Honestly the Hispanic side of Facebook is pretty relevant. Specially with groups.

Hispanics don't have the "Redditor" culture. So instead we make Facebook groups to share same interests.

It has a big phishing problem that "Meta" still hasn't resolved resulting in millions of clueless old shits or naive people getting their account hijacked. And much like Twatter, Plebbit and ShitTok, it's full of misinfomation with clueless psuedo-intellectual dipshits who think they know what they're talking about. And most comment sections are full of self-righteous morons. Facebook is a steaming pile of shit and is only useful if you want to check up on friends or family. This is a pretty dumb argument to make. It’s not that they’re portraying Mexican people specifically like this in this show, they’re portraying everyone like this in this show. Because that’s just the art style of the show.
It’s ugly as sin and awful. But this is a bad argument. Most of those other shows are simply going for a more conventionally appealing art style for all its characters, just like how this is going for this awful one for all of the characters in it.
It’d be like comparing American characters as portrayed in Clarence VS American characters portrayed in anime.

Neutral Spanish used for dubbing and voice overs is a wholly crafted thing through decades so the whole continent can understand.
And then certain vas or directors get cute and drop the ocasional slang, usually Mexican.
And it's hilarious when used well. See Adventure Time that got so fricking dull over time people were just watching it to see what kind of slang or joke added during localization they added. The popularity fricking tanked when CN mandated no more slang or added jokes. Ice King's VA didn't give a frick and kept doing it sporadically tho.

You're confusing "language" and "dialect" though. There's a lot of cohesiveness all across Spanish speakers, at least mostly, specially people from the big cities. Maybe an Uruguayan from the countryside won't understand a Castilian from the countryside or a Cuban guajiro unless they speak slowly, but as far as I know dialectologists wouldn't consider them to be speaking different languages. Now (and you probably know this) if we're talking about Spain's romance languages like Catalan, Galician and Aragonese, those *are* different languages with their own dialects. They might be mutually intelligible with Spanish/Castellano but they're still different systems. Basque/Euskera happens to be outside this because it did not evolve from Latin.

Why are whites allowed to idealize themselves in their cartoons, but not other races? Even Japs used to be mocked years ago for portraying themselves as 'white people', even though anime characters don't look like white people.
It's not that hard for me to imagine the characters created by Mexicans or Japs as Mexicans with mostly European blood, and some of them, like top left or top right, do have Indian features. Lucoa might be the only exception, and even then there are some Mexican blondes, even if they aren't the norm.

        Anonymous

Why is that so often the idealized form of a Japanese person or a Mexican person is light skinned, blue eyed, with blonde (sometimes red or light brown) hair?

          Anonymous

Those characters will also often have green hair, and not all Mexicans have brown skin.
And yes, I understand your point, blonde hair and pale skin are considered attractive, although women tend to prefer males with a tanned skin according to studies.
But I wasn't talking about this, it's just that whites keep portraying themselves as attractive guys and movie stars, even though most people aren't that attractive, whereas other races have to look like my ugly foreign neighbours. This just isn't fair.

            Anonymous

tbh I don't care at all if non-whites want to portray themselves as white looking since a lot of people see "attractive" as equating with white. But it's also kind of funny when non-whites do that because it clashes so much with what most of them actually look like.

I guess if you changed your name to Eustace Smith, dyed your hair blonde, wore blue contacts, dropped any and all accent, talked about your family coming over from England and Norway, you might disguise as tan if you are light enough but always in danger of discovery as a fraud.

Because of course people from a country can ONLY be part of the native population.

Which is funny since most of these types online don't consider American latinos to be latino anyways, so why care how they choose to portray themselves? 30% of Buenos Aires was black in 1820. Cordoba was 50%.
The impact of afro-descendants cannot be understated here. Any historian will tell you so. It's in our vocabulary, our music and traditions.
The Murga is literally a mixture of Italian comedia dell'arte and the Afro-descendant Batucada. Tango (of bantu etymology) originated in black owned dance clubs. Words like Quilombo are African. Gabino Ezeiza invented/popularized the Milonga by mixing the Habanera and Spanish contrapunto tradition.

Not so many kept. But there are a few here and there. But they don't make a 1% of the current population. And no an AD of Coca-Cola made for the SOUTH AFRICA WORLD CUP is not evidence.

some reading on the subject of national censusii. Afro, mulatto and triracial were all categories both in pop census and army studies.

Afro descendants who didn't racemix most likely emigrated to Uruguay and Sao Pablo from the 1850s onwards, after their traditional gathering were forbidden in the political upheaval cause by Rosas defeat. By 1900 they were few and far between.

North (the inca in top left) and West (the mapuche in top right) Argentina is and has always been majority mixed.

Northwest Argentina had a sizeable number of Quechua-descendant settlements, and the Bolivia-Argentina border existed (and exists) in name only.
Center-west Argentina had roaming bands of Mapuches and Tehuelches for most of it's history, and most people living there today are descendants from natives if not full blooded.
Many communities still practices Andean religious traditions, or try to, lol christianizition.

The rest of the country never had natives in significant numbers, pre-columbian buenos aires and the patagonia never broke 6 digits populations and that's a region the size of europe.

Buenos Aires has also inflated hard in migration straight from bolivia and paraguay and is certainly majority mixed today. I should know, I live there.

              >30% of Buenos Aires was black in 1820.
              No
              >Cordoba was 50%.
              Frick no

              >The impact of afro-descendants cannot be understated here.
Factually true, but those numbers you are giving are ridiculous and exaggerated and ignore historic realities, like the census ignoring people that was deemed "floating population"

              >Frick no
              >but those numbers you are giving are ridiculous and exaggerated and ignore historic realities
Brother it's in the fricking FEDERAL CENSUS DATA. There's dozens of studies done by Argies themselves.

                >mapuche

I've been reading about the Mapuche (in Chile), it's interesting yet also depressing how their treatment by the Chilean government is quite similar to how Natives in the US and Canada were/are treated. It seems to be a common theme across the continent.

I don't feel bad for the mapuches since they did basically the same to our southern natives the Tehuelches.

They exterminated them and absorbed them as part of their culture.

The story just loves to repeat itself.

In Argentina 67% are from European descent.
In the United States 61% are from European descent.

So why I'm wrong by saying something BASIC?

              Anonymous

Because the data is fake and based on self-reporting.
Roughly 20 to 30% of that "67" is actually mestizo.

Argentineans in general know jack shit about race and cannot distinguish and indian from a pajeet, not find it important enough to keep tabs on. They just self-identity as white because it's what everyone else does.

Majority achieved freedman or freedman-like status (slavery wasn't as serious in spain) by the end of the 1700s and intermarried with criollos (rural colonials), mestizos and natives.
A minority concentrated in Buenos Aires, specifically, the old port in the San Telmo & La Boca neighborhoods, as a close-knit community of african "reconstructionists" akin to Brazilian Sambistas, Candombistas and Umbandas while they worked as laborers.
By 1880s they were a mostly male minority regarded as a curiosity of the city by the "New Argentineans" aka the migrants. There's a lot of theories as to why they disappeared - the paraguay war, the yellow fever epidemic, literally getting BREEDED too hard. But they all have been debunked at one point or another.

Personally, I believe they simply emigrated to Brasil and Uruguay (who never had as many blacks as us but somehow invented both the afro influenced Candombe and Murga music genres) somewhere after the 1850s. Why that date in particular? Because after the Rosas government fell the Urquiza goverment passed a punitive law on the afro-descendant community that forbid them from doing their socio-religious public gatherings. These gatherings were and still are extremely important to all latam afro-descendant communities. Forbidding them more or less demolished their social structure and they started emigrating.

Funny thing, there's an uptick of songs about blacks in the 30s and 40s as the zeitgeist realized an entire demographic has basically disappeared.

Hot take but there would not be any controversy at all if they bothered to use the language right. It's the same reason why gay, lesbian or even trans doesn't piss Latinos off as much as non-binary because that shits fricks with the language. Spanish doesn't work that way.
