>My head wasn't in the game that day.

>My head wasn't in the game that day. We were kinda goin' through the motions. So, using my super speed, I decided to go clear my head. Then I realized, we had done this same silly charade our entire lives. I tried to get my mind off how I was feeling, but I just felt stuck. And I started to realize, despite all my powers, each and every citizen of Metro had something I didn't: a choice.

    >I save people because of social pressure, not because I genuinely want to because it's the right thing to do and doing the right thing fills me with purpose and happiness
I always imagine the stories people write as a mirror into their souls. what do the souls of these writers contain?

On the contrary, they get careless and take life for granted. Superheroes make normal people weak.

superheroes are ideals to aspire to, not services to take for granted. it would take a truly degenerate public to conclude the latter.

I'll never understand how comic writers have crazy stuff like Batman and Superman, but they can't make good with it.
Batman's mythology, even the stuff not involving Batman directly, is amazing and then you have Superman who is a god.

An edict to write a superman story that subverts expectations. Writers are like AI, plug in a prompt and tweak the results. Producers control everything

To be fair in that story he seems to basically just stop Megamind and the city doesn't have many problems besides - though that might just be because he's around to stop shit.
In any case he's aware that when real problems happen Megamind will come down on the side of everyday people so it's not like he's abandoning the world to get murdered by Doomsday or something.

I think I can see their side too though, it’s more like what if every second you could hear or with enough effort find someone dying or in pain. Every moment of your life would be saving someone, or maybe worse looking for someone you know is getting hurt somewhere.

However I prefer Kingdom Comes Flash who is never seen anymore because he’s constantly been in motion constantly saving everyone for a decade. Probably the most selfless hero, borderline angelic presence to his city.

To be fair, he realized correctly that Megamind wasn't actually a threat to anyone. He just liked the pageantry of being a villain and hating Metroman. When he takes over the city, initially it's a bit rough in terms of how things operate but it devolves into "new boss, same as the old boss." And that Metromen that if the city was truly under threat a hero would emerge to stop them. Now that bit is largely shortsighted, however he was clearly talking about and to Megamind to try and give him the pep talk he needed to become that hero (something he probably learned from reading those self-help books.) And Megamind eventually does become that hero. It's also worth remembering that the city only becomes imperiled again, not because Megamind wanted to imperil it but because the person he accidentally created to be Metroman's replacement was a total heel. Had the magic bullet gone up what's her face's nose, none of this woulda happened and he could have just gone back to playing his games like he wanted.

this is fricked up. this character is what kills the movie for me. otherwise i love it, but what the writers do to titan is awful, the whole movie is about a should-be-evil character subverting the expectations and being good instead, it's about teaching that appearances are not what they seem and that bad people can turn out good. but this nerd ugly dumb character is irredeemable, he turns out to be plain silly evil and egoistical, with nobody ever showing him respect or attention or love. they play him like an plain hopeless butthole, and at the same time the movie says that nobody is hopeless

I think the movie intentionally contrasts Megamind with Hal as they basically have reverse arcs. Megamind becomes “normal” and decides to reform and improve himself. Hal gets given powers and becomes more of a piece of shit than he already was.
