Animation was good, robots and ships were cool, lots of ruri screen time. I like Alito batman, I like black serena, I like ryoko custom astivalis I like ruri in captain dress. This movie is good.

People always say the movie diverged in tone from the series, but I don't think it really did.
This, it really just felt like a longer nadesico episode for me. It being the first part in a trilogy of movies that ended up not being made is the real stinker.

I love Prince of Darkness, but the fact that there was meant to be more Nadesico films after it that never manifested is an eternal thorn in my side.
SRW is a nice compensation, but it's never gonna replace the real thing.
Prince of Darkness is trash outside of animation and it annoys me that Prince of Darkness Black Sarena always gets in SRW .

It's fine. I like it a bit.
My problem is that if you watch it after the show the whiplash is massive. Plot points out of nowhere that had to be cleared by a VN, major characterization shifts, etc. I don't mind how angsty it is either but having the show's humor would have helped a lot.

The martian succesors plan relied on tubefeeding yurika with shoujo manga.
In a meta way the film kinda feels like it's making another self-referential joke about mecha anime with how the series is followed up by a much darker film that extends or remakes the ending similar to EoE, or Ideon.

Hikaru and Izumi in particular have a basically entirely comedic role.
Akito and Ruri to a lesser extent are the only characters lacking humor, and with valid reason given their experiences prior to the movie.
