That's because they are filler, in that they fill in the gap between ATLA and Korra.
The Promise, The Rift, and Imbalance all lay the groundwork for Republic City. North and South explain how the South Pole bounces back after the war, while Smoke and Shadow artificially extends Zuko and Azula's conflict which peaked in the finale. The Search is the only one with any meat to it because it resolves a dangling plot point that was never resolved in the series.

The trade-off I would accept for this is Tokka with Sokka retconned into being Toph's kids' dad and actually being in their lives and them knowing him as their dad. Of course other things would have to change, like Lin dating someone who in this case would be her first cousin, but that might be for the best anyway. I know people are desperate for Zuko not to end up with Mai, but these are my demands in exchange for Zuki.

I think its just that Aang is a 12 year old kid for most of the series compared to an broody 16 year old "bad boy" with emotional issues. Aang does go on to become a chad but I just gather that most of ATLA's target audience at the time would never choose Aang over Zuko.
It's something that would have worked a lot better with a timeskip especially since they did have a very strong and deep relationship but for most of the series it came off as Aang crushing on his babysitter.

The Promise, The Rift, and Imbalance all lay the groundwork for Republic City. North and South explain how the South Pole bounces back after the war, while Smoke and Shadow artificially extends Zuko and Azula's conflict which peaked in the finale. The Search is the only one with any meat to it because it resolves a dangling plot point that was never resolved in the series.
They may not be a canon couple, but the comics are filled with ship bait, that is for sure.

Why people hate the canon ship?
I think its just that Aang is a 12 year old kid for most of the series compared to an broody 16 year old "bad boy" with emotional issues. Aang does go on to become a chad but I just gather that most of ATLA's target audience at the time would never choose Aang over Zuko.
It's something that would have worked a lot better with a timeskip especially since they did have a very strong and deep relationship but for most of the series it came off as Aang crushing on his babysitter.
