Bond is meant to be young and naive in that film, with Cavil at the time, it would have been perfect, his heartbreak would have been believable.
This. It was expressly written for a young actor to carry the franchise for decades and form a new storyline. Craig's age made them do Skyfall where's an old man despite getting the 00 two movies back. Utter disaster. Campbell, Michael Wilson, even previous director Vaughn wanted Cavill but we live in clown world and a woman somehow has more power and picked Craig who was nearing 40 years of age.

Casino Royale still had some fun, along with QoS. Skyfall was when the whole thing became unbearable. Turning Q unto a twink, Moneypenny into some sheebon, the villain being a gay and Bond being turned into some moody bisexual homosexual. Frick Daniel Craig. Cavill should have gotten the role back in 06.
