Nathan Fillion

He’s got the charm, he’s got the looks, he’s got the acting chops, and is a veteran actor with lots of experience in the industry. Why isn’t he getting better shows?

But there are actors like Bob Odenkirk and Anthony Hopkins who are quite old but still give terrific performances still.

        Anonymous

Odenkirk was not leading-man material and got lucky that one of his side characters got a spin-off. Hopkins is a completely different level from Fillion and I say this as someone who likes Fillion a lot.
Nathan Fillion is a handsome, charismatic actor who also has a sense of being approachable or down-to-earth. He is a leading man not a supporting character. His best bet would be to try and transition to something like Bruce Campbell's character in Burn Notice but very few actors manage to do that sort of thing.

Apparently he was very difficult to work with on Castle...though I don't know if that was his fault or his co-stars, I have never looked into it in great detail.

He and the female lead absolutely hated each other later on, and they had to rewrite scripts so they didn't have to be in the same room (which is ironic seeing as their characters were married)

              that sounds exactly like marriage

Is this the new way of saying "male lead with popular appeal to college educated men"?
Because it seems to be true of all of them.

My best friend worked on Castle and was brought over to work on the Rookie. Everyone on that crew absolutely loves Nathan.

Most people don't know that he spent years doing day time soap operas, and now that he's doing network dramas he's loaded and doing easy work.

The whole Nat/Stana feud wasn't a real thing. They just liked to rip at each other and some autists fan with no friends who was at a recording of a show thought it meant they hated each other.
They also thought that because they weren't in the same scenes it meant they had a clause that they wanted to be kept apart as much as possible.
Autism is a hell of a drug.

He was going the cop procedural show called the Rookie. Watched a few episodes of the first season. It is very average. He’s the best of it hands down.

Heard he’s also playing the Green Lantern Guy Gardner in upcoming movie “Superman’s Legacy” by James Gunn. Still these are very minor things.

    Hollywood is dying.

Watch an anime called Oshi No Ko btw. You'll love it.

        That's just the surface level.
The depth is that Hollywood is completely stuck in the 90s. Even when you look at the non-reheated oldshit like the latest A24 'The Noun' it reflects a society that doesn't exist any more. The days of distant stars is over, in the new paradigm we are the content we consume.

If I'm right about this thread, and I'm right about who OP is, the thing nobody wants to recognize is that this IS reality, he's here for validation and so am I. This is how the human race lives now.

Hollywood wants to pretend that by making the little mermaid black they've "updated it for modern audiences" but in reality that's the one thing they DIDN'T change. That story just doesn't really make sense any more. it doesn't tell us something true about ourselves, it just puts even less effort into a lie nobody believes any more.

Anime on the other hand has stayed relevant. It tells valid, universally understood, stories in which the audience can see itself reflected. And if I'm right about who the OP is, he will see himself reflected in Oshi No Ko. Plus the first episode is fricking kino.

He's been getting network TV work for over a decade. Dude is set for life. I think a lot of actors would envy his career.

Though its probably true that most successful actors are probably hyper focused on what they didn't achieve.

Network, not cable, but Cinemaphile’s young male demographic doesn’t watch those types of shows. It’s like how Hawaii Five-0 ran for 10 seasons and 240 episodes on CBS.

Is that Cinemaphiles demographic tho? Because I've been here for a long time, and I'm starting to feel a little outnumbered by a truth we've all silently agreed not to tell.

Even if Cinemaphile now has a lot of 30-something posters, that’s still not the demographic that would regularly tune into Hawaii Five-0 or network procedurals in general.

I don't think you understood my point.
Once upon a time what you were saying made sense.
But now I'm wonder if I'm Cinemaphiles demo, or you are?
That maybe it's less about age and gender, and more about postcode.

              Anonymous

Nah, Cinemaphile will always be primarily comprised of young males as long as it exists. You say you’ve been here for a while. Remember when Cinemaphile was nothing but BLACKED and cuck shitposting back in the mid 2010s? The current troony obsession is just the new version of that.

                Anonymous

Adding to this: The main difference between old Cinemaphile and modern Cinemaphile is phone posting and third worlders getting internet access en masse.

Wow, what you don't understand is, considerable.

                Lets start with
                >nothing but BLACKED and cuck shitposting
                >The current troony obsession
That's like two guys, and they're the same two guys who were doing it then that are doing it now. There used to be a few more of them but suicide rates amongst internet addicted young men are shockingly high.

I'm trying to stick to the rule here, but I don't know how much harder I can hint.

There are FRICK ALL anons on Cinemaphile, Usually it's like 3 or 4, when something comes out we get a bit of a spike of people who fall for the shill threads, but 99.99% of the posts on this board are made by shills now.

I don’t really buy into the shill conspiracy theory. I’m fairly certain the anon that started a thread with a picture of Hunter Schafer isn’t actually interested in the new Hunger Games movie. Just a hunch.

Okay go try to have a conversation with the Disneybots then. It's a franchise no "young men" give single flying frick about any more, and yet there always seems to be so many threads up about it.

pretty sure he leaned more into the voice actor route instead of the serious actor route. I genuinely can't think of anything outside of firefly he plays a lead role in.

I mean he had Castle, which was very popular, and he's currently on the Rookie which is a mediocre cop drama but apparently also popular its still going 6 seasons in. Not a fan of either shows but he's the star of both and they are both big network TV shows he's doing fine.
I dont see him taking super serious roles in dramas and stuff, he's definitely a comedic/romantic type character.
I will agree that he's a kino machine, Castle is super average but without him it would be dogshit, same with The Rookie he's the only thing that makes it somewhat watchable.

pretty sure he is just comfortable being financially secure but not super rich, while not having to do any gay shit for ~~*producers*~~ or anything he doesn't want to do

I liked the Rookie up until they made Lucy and her TO start dating. Wasn't that shown to be a big nono in the first season when Lucy and Nathan Fillion were secretly dating? It's practically a retcon. Very annoying. I know this isn't really relevant to the thread but I never see Rookie threads and I had to get this off my chest. Nathan looks old as frick in the Rookie lately though.
