People were something more epic and serialized but instead Stan Sekai just gave us a cartoon for toddlers.

Stan only signed off and made sure it wasn't a direct adaptation so his work is untouched

No, 3D animation is bad and the humor is very much aimed at kids. And like very small kids, it's almost preschool level but not quite. The only good part is the yokai are treated with respect and not just as monsters of the week, which is different from this type of show.
Since they're making an R-rated TMNT movie, maybe one day we'll get that proper adaptation. Adult cartoon action shows are all the rage now. Get Genndy Tartakovsky. to do it and you're golden.

Frick no, he's been slipping. Samurai Jack S5 sucked, Primal S2 sucked, and Unicorn sucked.

I'm hesitant too, while the animation style would do very well there may be even better around, and the actual story should be done as close to the original as possible.

We're in a moment in time where we had blue eye samurai and shogun back to back, we just need to take netflix out of the equation and get some actual Japanese with balls of iron folded a thousand times to do it justice.

Do any Japanese care about Usagi Yojimbo?

I have never read more than one Usagi comic, but I can say that the cartoon is bad, but it entertained me and the characters have charisma and I like how they interact. It's like teen titans

Have you checked out the yearly storytime?
Or is Usagi not your cup of tea?

No, but I liked that they got the TMNT 2012 voice actor for the OG Usagi.

I still get a kick out of Jim Cummings voicing both Usagi and Gen. Plus the fact that his actual name is inexplicably "Space Usagi".

Thanks for the link it was cool to watch.

With some refinement on the character art it would have been a real banger even if the tech is goofy looking like out of he-man the fight scenes are on point and Gen is perfect.

Wish the show was more of an accurate adaption and utilized a different style like pic related of, I guess, early concept for the show?

Was okay, needed one (1) more season.
Could've used a little more emphasis on it being a sequel series rather than a "reboot", which was one of the hangups that UY fans were mad about.

I liked it. But the general sentiment I hear is that it's not like the comics at all which is why people usually say it's not good. But for me it has a a lot of similarities to KFP: Legend of Awesomeness and TMNT 2012 which are two of my favorite shows ever so of course I'm gonna vouch for it

first person I've seen say they really like KFP:LOA, much less they're favorite show
but I remember liking it too

They played it smart by making it a distant sequel with a new set of protagonists rather than dumbing down the original to fit into the "kid's show" vision of executives.

An actual positive: I liked how they handled the yokai. They felt more accurate to Japanese myth. I especially liked the giant skeleton one.

I honestly gave it a shot but it really sucks. It’s definitely a typical kids show with the pacing and dialogue, listening to them speak is like hearing nails on a chalkboard, particularly usagi. The other anons summed it up pretty well. Everything is americanized and you’ll hardly learn anything of value or any japanese for that matter, save for a few words. Another thing thats really jarring is that Neo Tokyo never has more than 5 people in any given scene. It feels totally empty.
However the only redeeming thing is the short 2d animated segments that show up occasionally every other ep. If the show looked like that then i would at least have something nice to look at. Also there are no hot chicks.

no, it was set in the future and it had very little to do with usagi, also the MC was boring as frick

If a movie is ever made then it should be given it to Ghibli and use a mix of Stan's art and something like Tale of Princess Kaguya

Yeah it would really flourish if made with eastern art rather than with the Genndy style (Tho some hard edges during fights would be amazing).

would have been a great look for younger Usagi when he was still a samurai vassal for his lord.
