I liked the black guy who was a Coptic Christian. Nowadays they would just insert blacks randomly into the English/French armies, but back in the day they cared about authenticity and made a realistic role for the black guy.

The biggest problem with this movie was casting Legolas as the lead. He can't act for shit and has negative IQ and charisma stats outside of playing characters that don't talk.
Pirates was right to sideline his role in favour of Johnny Depp, who actually has charisma.

A katana will handle like a katana. A euro longsword will handle however the maker / end user wants it to handle. Every katana I've owned/handled has been blade heavy. Every longsword I've owned/handled has been unique. Some do indeed handle like a katana too.

I.E. pic related: Left most longsword is pommel heavy with a sharply tapered blade and very quick. Point of balance is ~3" from the guard.
Longsword on the right is more blade heavy which slows it down a tish. Point of balance is ~6" from the guard.
Both the katana and ninjato handle nearly the same by having similar length, weight and point of balance.
3 of the 4 European swords in that pic weigh more than both the Japanese longswords too.

I love the frantic style he uses in his films. The scene in musashi when he’s cornered in the house and just swinging like a fricking madman is sword kino. It feels so much more authentic; when you see guys in the if. Hop in the ring, the technique is really more about distance and balance while they action feels frantic and desperate, and you really feel that in all of Kurosawa’s samurai flicks. Like you’re watching real human beings fighting through an intense and immediate fear of death and a huge adrenaline rush

lift and stab. The opponent will want to raise the sword and attack from above, away from your sword. Thats slower, and you just lift yours up and thrust

He will just stab you in the face while you're lifting your sword up. You're adding an extraneous movement to a split second exchange.

I think a lot of the swordmasters in Medieval Europe were Italian. It is also where a lot of the training manuals were written, due to Italy doing that whole renaissance thing first.

Basically a version of Ox guard, widely considered to be the meme guard.
      See

The last two guards are meme guards, use it if you wanna die real quick. The mid guard and high guard are generally the most popular.

        Anonymous

Ox seems mostly silly yeah but what's wrong with Nebenhut? Seems like you could step back and slice right up between a guy's arms.

          ?si=XEvtTR-Rl5vQAlq3&t=187
not a meme but probably not very common. i doubt any of the guards and techniques important enough to be committed to manuals over life and death matters had no real utility

          Anonymous

It's the opposite version of high guard basically, it has the same drawbacks (i.e. limited guard/parry potential and extremely limited in the range of strike you can follow up), but it doesn't have the same reach, speed and power. You compensate for it a little by being able to conceal the timing of the strike slightly using your body, but honestly nobody would be easily fooled.

      >only drawback is it lacks a variety of attack opportunities on the wielder’s behalf
Though if I remember from my Soul Calibur days playing Mitsurigi the best attack is a quick “jab” at the face that sets you up for a quick step forward and an overhead smack, or after a few of those switching it up with a surprising “uppercut” swing

i have boromirs sword. always wanted it since i saw the movie and once i was an adult i decided ive had enough and checked Amazon or ebay for one and managed to find one in perfect condition with all the bags and boxes still. had to take it off the wall for a little though so the kids dont impale themselves because even though its a prop sword its still steel and the tip is super pointy and "sharp"
