I thought he was the likeliest cast member from the original shows to come back as a major character, not only would The Doctor replace Holo Janeyway but the actor is still active and has his own youtube channel.

I really don't understand people who are so critical of modern Trek. SNW, LD and PRO were great series, I don't think we've ever had three great Star Trek series at the same time, and even PIC S3 was good.

Sure. Robert Meyer Burnett had a similar take on a recent podcast he did, so it’s not exactly original (he agrees that Prodigy comes the closest to capturing the feel of 90s Trek in its storytelling, by the way). You can arrive at that conclusion by watching just a few minutes of these shows. They’re just simulacra of Star Trek, not actual Star Trek shows.

That's not a bad way of putting it. You see it more and more these days as you get people who were raised on the echoes of something iconic that hasn't gone away even decades after it stopped airing. They understand it was popular. They understand it was about certain things and had certain highlight moments, as well as low moments that people joked about. It's like a meme to them and they say to themselves
>well, we'll just make a similar meme in the same format! That's all it really takes, right? Just kinda has to have the same words and similar pictures and it will be just as big and iconic as the original!
And it never occurred to them that the originals worked the way they did because the creators weren't trying to imitate someone else's success in becoming an iconic, permanent fixture in the pop culture.

Yeah, this is worth elaborating on because it’s painfully apparent that NuTrek writers cannot watch old Star Trek and treat it seriously. They think it’s silly and dated. Hence the desire to “modernize” or “deconstruct.”
The problem is common to modern franchises. It´s self-percieved geniuses that feel above the material and want to do their spin. Their spin being deconstruction. That´s done without any construction. Result: crap

Man, I LOVE DS9, but that last season really jumped right off the tracks. Especially with all the shit that happens to Ferenginar over the course of about 2 episodes. Frick Rom and I hope Ira Steven Behr gets brain cancer.
I've liked the episodes about Number One being an Illyrian and examining the Federation's own prejudices against Genetic Modification
And that episode about M'Benga's PTSD from the Klingon War was pretty neat.

This is sort of what I said earlier about the simulacrum stuff. SNW has a court episode because that’s the trope, it’s almost like an obligation. You know the writers were like “teehee, we need a trial episode. Now that’s a Star Trek!”

Paramount+ is a decomposing corpse which bleeds more and more money with every quarter. This is a blessing in disguise. If they advertise the show well and put in on a respected streaming service, it could reach a bigger audience than any other NuTrek.

It’s made in Canada so animation probably ain’t the cheapest. They also don’t know when to stop with cameos so that probably inflates the budget as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if LD were the most expensive animated show right now. And they still can’t make it look good.
Blowing up the Protostar was a mistake. Only nu-Trek ship I liked. Unique vessel slightly bigger than a runabout, smaller than a Defiant.

Not wrong though, Deep Space Nine opened the floodgates for future Star Trek entries to become "flawed" and "edgy" by intentionally departing from Rodenberry's and Star Trek's traditional values.
The flaw was blaming "auteurs", instead of Babylon 5 bible "influence".

Maybe Paramount should have considered not sabotaging Prodigy’s release. If I were the Hageman Bros, I’d never work with them again.
The point was that, Paramount is clueless in the best case scenario. Sure the Hageman are above caring about those clowns, who won´t be there soon, most likely becuse there will not be a Paramount soon.
It would be funny if Prodigy was the last Trek standing when Paramount bites the dust.
