We went from an oscar winning director who would design the creatures himself to dudes having AI design for them.

It's a normal part of the concept art process to use photos from online, research, etc. to cobble together designs. This is just a new tool for that

Instead of "this random building looks good" it's "this random AI image looks good"

              >this franchise can't catch a break
It really can't. The 2019 movie. BPRD's ending being rushed and underwhelming after decades of comics. Scott Allie being an abuser. Guy Davis and John Arcudi leaving, and at least one of them being shafted out of royalties. The list goes on.

Hell, I hear that even the game that came out last year wasn't very good.

Yeah I wont lie that the ending wasnt particularly satisfying, honestly while I like all the one off comics they do for hellboy now its still weird knowing the ending. I enjoyed the game, its a fun beat em up, Lance Reddick isnt who I would have cast but it grows on me after a while.

I cannot get into the game at all. The genre just does not mesh with the the feel of Hellboy for me

                Anonymous

Honestly I just think the games controls arent tight enough, and it needs to be more difficult. I really enjoyed dualing the bigger enemies but it could be clunky and get repetitive, and I didn't die until halfway through the game. But if it wasnt this it should have been something like a point and click I think

                Anonymous

There is something way messed up with the controls, something just feels wrong with the control scheme they use for the light and heavy punches. I agree a point and click, or something like a Resident Evil style game would.

Artgays need to start a civil war in their own community then if they want popular support. AI is basically conceived of as a blunt object weapon in a populist revolt against R. Mutt shit smear banana tape garbage which is now the establishment. Have some artists start larping as Rembrandt and saying uhh we’re to go back and surpass all the old masters rather than subvert them and watch public opinion flip back to your side. There are some people who are truly just anti-intellectual anti-artistic lumpen morons but there are many others who just want the entire art world to burn down due to their resentment towards elite art who could probably have their minds changed were artists to align themselves with more conventional people rather than against them

My favorite part is that the banana-type art is precisely the shit that won't be affected by AI.
AI will not be able to walk into a museum, staple a banana to a wall, and yell "there, art, now pay me."
What AI will absolutely frick over are the people that just want to go into illustration.
We're looking at our culture being turned into the worst slop imaginable, art being discarded in favor of algorithm-created images, while the internet fills up with AI-written articles and AI-created realistic videos, to the point where it'll be impossible to tell what's real and what's not.
And there will be people watching civilization rotting who will applaud because they've deluded themselves into thinking this hellscape somehow "owns the libcuck establishment."

Anyway, glad the Hellboy movie doesn't have AI in it. It'll probably suck anyway, but hey, maybe we'll get lucky and it'll be decent.

Normies will never grasp that. America in general have a full on seething hatred of the very concept of an artist and considers them to all be banana wall Andy Warhol types. They are not going to accept any explanation, they have their conclusion, they do not give a frick what details you want to speak.

It's the same situation as with retail and fastfood workers. American normies fricking LOATHE minimum wage employees and want to treat them like shit, but still want the burgers. Meanwhile the boomers send all manufacturing, shipping and big boy adult jobs for the unskilled worker overseas, and leaves the non college grads with gigs and low wagie shit. Then gets right to work hating them for taking gigs and low wagie shit.

My understanding was that he does not retain the rights to the movies because of the original deltoro series so he can't actually stop them. Like I know the discworld series got awful adaption after terry Pratchett died, his daughter shit on it too, specifically because while he didn't have the rights the studio knew he would tell anyone who asked him that it was garbage and if he's dead he can't do that

The saddest thing about all this nonsense is the morons like you, cheering at the thought of out-of-work artists, oblivious to the fact that the people who will lose out in this new environment aren't going to be the artists you hate the most. The rainbowhaired rich trustfund kiddies will be the ones allowed to remain. The "I nailed a banana to the wall" dudes will do just fine. The ones that are going to be fricked are going to be the dudes coming from poor families who just wanted to make art, but won't be able to make a living at it any more, and won't have mommy-and-daddy money to help

Please. Only spoiled kids are crying about AI. If this was their actual motivation they wouldn't nuke someone's reputation for playing around with an AI generator

When a human being learns from the works of other artists, they filter what they're looking at through the sum total of their lived experiences and tastes. When an algorithm draws from artists works it has no life experience to filter it through, no tastes, no likes or dislikes. It's just an unthinking math problem waiting for someone to plug in a few values.

I don't like the AI in KFP4, but there's a pretty big distinction here.
They plugged the Chameleon's basic frame into an algorithm and let it produce janky nonsense, using it because it took the basic model they'd made themselves and moved it in disquieting ways.
I don't like it, I don't respect it, and I think it moved us further along a very slippery slope.
But it was a very limited and specific use, very different from a producer with no art background hitting the "make me some demons" button because he just doesn't feel like using the great designs from the comics or hiring an artist.

        >It's Damage control
No, it's not. Read Yunger's actual statement.
While working on The Offering he saw some work being done on a demon. He went "looks like shit to me," then went home, pulled up the Rugurgitron2000, and told it to make demons. And it did! It made so many demons, and he clapped and went "whee! I'm creative!"
And then in interview he mentioned the experience while saying that he really liked the idea of using AI in movies in future.

Then REALLY BAD REPORTING resulted in an article turning that anecdote into "There's a ton of AI in the new Hellboy movie."

Is AI still bad if you train it on your own collection of work? Not saying this is case here, but I don't see any ethical issue with that. Quality maybe, but it seems like an interesting use. Saw someone doing it with his own pixel art for some decent results.

      Anonymous

There is no training it on your own collection of work unless you have an absurdly large amount, only finetuning it. And a finetuned generator was still fed the work of others.
