Rick and Morty is shit.

Feepee beepee
FBBP as usual
Fippy bippy.
I called what this episode was going to be about (although to be fair they did make it very easy to figure out). Here's hoping they go somewhere interesting with it in the rest of the episode.
Not offensively bad, it's alrigjt
I think I ain't watching this woke garbage and shame on you for shilling it
President has a name now?
He always had one, it just wasn't said very often.
Canceled show.
They still doing this therapy shit?
Do they even go to space anymore?
Do they even visit cool planets?
Did you not see the last episode
Yes and Rick defends going to it now.
>Rick tries to prevent the president from dating his therapist
This is it. The most anti-hype premise for an episode ever made.
What if I told you they were probably going to wind up having a threesome, thereby ruining Rick's attempts at getting therapy and also dragging Dr. Wong's name through the mud professionally?
they'd never put wong into a negative position
as hot as it would be to see her in the middle of a more provocative position
The fact that she's a therapist who specializes in eating shit makes me think they're not completely adverse to making fun of her.
And yet you're still gonna watch it. What a cuck
kinda funny. Rick's voice sounds terrible here
>mocks all religions
>except Scientology, that's crossing the line
Unironically, this. I'm normally a fan of Rick and Morty, and enjoyed the first 2 episodes of the season, but seeing them bow their heads to scientologists? Grow a fricking pair and make fun of them. If you're too much of a pussy to do that then don't even mention them. Fricking Christ.
I found the moment disturbing and gross too, and perhaps I'm being too kind to the show, but I want to believe that that's the joke. Like the audience is supposed to understand that Scientology is actually particularly evil, and the cucking to them is, like, an ironic meta gag, or something.
It was just used for a joke about Rick's therapy working, you fricking sperg. The writers aren't unironically being sympathetic to scientologists.
We've known Scientology was real in R&M since Morty's Mindblowers.
I though the show poked fun at scientology before. Remember when Rick claimed that he would even join a scientology seminar with Birdperson in tone that conveyed that it would be one of the things he wouldn't like to do but would only for the sake of his friend.
I think the main thing with Rick is he's trying to be nicer. That to him scientology is no more stupid than any other religion.
>Fricking Christ.
they would never
The show isn't protecting scientology it's just Rick showing how Therapy works. also in the world of Rick and Morty scientology weird ass lore probably does exist in some form or another
Scientology is unironically based, and there are scientologists who aren't members of the Church of Scientology.

Frick off, Cruise. Mission Impossible 8 will also flop
I'll not always be here on guard. The stars twinkle in the Milky Way and the wind sighs for songs across the empty fields of a planet a Galaxy away.
You won't always be here.
But before you go, whisper this to your sons and their sons - "The work was free. Keep it so."
L. Ron Hubbard, Scientology: Clear Procedure; December 1957
None of those movies flopped. Seethe about it.
Are you gays genuinely too autistic to understand that the joke is that scientology is nonsensical garbage, and so the fact that Rick is treating it with respect is the fricking punchline? Yes rick is always quick to make edgy "religion bad" remarks, but "scientology bad" is such a lukewarm take that it's even too low hanging fruit to be a rick and morty punchline
Christianity is lowest hanging fruit and everyone still rips on it
The joke is that Rick is being uncharacteristically nice, he has all the right to make fun of it because it's stupid as hell, but like he said, it's cheap, so he uncharacteristically retracts his insult.
There's no one that hates Rick and Morty more than Rick and Morty fans.
>There's no one that hates Rick and Morty more than Rick and Morty fans.
it's true
3rd episode in a row without morty? Yeesh.
Morty is a ghost of a robot clone, the real Morty was in summer camp all along
Not sci Fi summer camp, just regular I forgot the bug repellent spray camp
He learnt to tie knots
>3rd episode in a row without morty? Yeesh.
It's the Rick Sanchez Show now, anon. Get used to it. I miss him, bros.
Looks like it's made by writers with psychology degrees trying to ease the stress of their painfully poor life decision to get a useless psych degree rather than be a comedy show.
>An episode about the shrink
Skipped the first episode
Episode 2 blew its premise and was boring as shit
Skipping this episode
Zombie show
I don't have a problem with the side characters, but after the first episode and now this, things are starting to feel a lot like the new Futurama. It's a little infatuated with itself, if not afraid to add anything new. It's as if the writers were given a toy during show and tell, and they're afraid to mess with it because they need to give it to someone else soon. They just want their turn to end.
I actually liked it up until the "Space Mormon" bit. All Mormons are Space Mormons. That's the whole fricking point. There's plenty of religions that would work for the joke. The bar I set for R&M is low, but that's sci-fi adjacent enough that they should've gotten it right.
Kind of funny. Rick afraid of his therapist getting BLACKED. Definitely the kind of shit Roiland wouldn't write about.
>therapist AND president episode
I hope Naruto is in it too.
>Main focus is on my two least favorite characters
Yeah I'm gonna skip this one
>I like tom cruise
Me too, Rick. Me too.
>Self-insert asian therapist consistently getting one over on Rick played by a white woman is flirting with the president now
Looks like we're 3 for 3 on shitty episodes so far. Notice how none of them have been about Rick AND fricking Morty yet?
Sasquatch
Which episode is left from?
the next episode. it shows up in the preview.
Next episode. Rick’s gonna be fighting at least bigfoot, but based on the President’s rundown in the cold open it might be a bunch of cryptids. If I were to hazard a big dick guess, I’d say that this episode will put Dr. Wong’s therapy all the way to the test. Either Dr. Wong will have to budge that sometimes there’s no healthy way out of a situation, or she’ll have a fling with the president in an unhealthy way, or the lesson will be that she was right once again and Rick just needed to trust the advisors around him or possibly learn to understand where bigfoot is coming from as a being.
>ProZD whines that he only got to read for the one asian character on a show despite the rest of them being written as white
>Susan Sarandon has been playing a Chinese woman on one of the most popular shows in the world for six years and nobody's said shit
Oh, people have said shit. They just haven't gotten the show cancelled.
Nobody who pretends to care about this shit has said shit. Unless you count Jessica Gao, who specifically wrote the character so an asian would be cast, only for Harmon to cast Sarandon instead.
Did she publicly bemoan this decision and disown the episode and Harmon, shaming him as a another rich white middle aged man who got his way above a minority? Of course fricking not. Instead they did a podcast together called "Whiting Wongs" where apparently they discussed each other's point of view. But it only lasted four episodes. And the link to it is not broken. And the character has never been recast. And Gao went on to create, write, produce, etc. that god awful and near universally panned She-Hulk series.
That sounds like people said a lot of shit, actually.
More like one person.
Nope. I remember when the creators of Central Park flat out admitted they knew what they were doing casting Kristen Bell as the mixed race daughter, but they did it anyway because they love her and her singing voice. And then enough people called them out that they had to recast her in season 2.
White women are exempt from race-casting.
this particular edition of this shitshow started because of Wendee Lee.
Hopefully there’s a Morty B plot
What if Morty only shows up at the very end of the episode, but when he does, he asks why he hasn't gotten a plot for three episodes?
If this anon
is right, he'll at least make an appearance.
I was almost going to include that pic in picrel but the space gorilla looks like a different character from Sasquatch/Bigfoot
What happened to the Rick Prime plot?
>What happened to the Rick Prime plot?
Episode 5, m8. Everything's pointing to it.
>title references the Clint Eastwood movie Unforgiven
>vague synopsis
>an executive producer recently teased a mid-season shift
I was thinking he looks different because he's going super saiyan. It'd be a little weird to do two giant simians in one season, however one should never underestimate Rick and Morty writers' creative bankruptcy.
>It'd be a little weird to do two giant simians in one season, however one should never underestimate Rick and Morty writers' creative basedness.
Fixed, and frick you. We need more gorillas.
> Episode 5, m8. Everything's pointing to it.
On top of that, the titles reveal vid actually used a background from episode 2 instead of one for episode 5. Unless they started reusing backgrounds.
It was no mistake. The background art teaser for episode 5 was very much calculated. They also used it in the slides for this compilation vid breaking down the family's timeline: https://youtu.be/I1Q4FQNSb5c
Why the same background popped up in the Jerrick episode only raises further questions.
Why are television watchers so bad at dealing with a mixed episodic/seralized format? It's so common, but every time, I see comments like this that act like it's the first television show they've ever watched.
Nah nah son, you can't just go right from a big huge world changing consequences moment to transition directly into what you're going to do about it. You gotta chill out first and help the old lady run for mayor of your 40 person town!
Season Finale only
Probably gonna hit as a midseason finale first.
They’ve teased that mid season is gonna be big.
Are these the same characters?
no moron
I’m down with this, actually. I don’t like Wong or the President very much but this angle could lead to some fun from Rick. I’m also one of the few that appreciates how Rick is developing with therapy. It’s not my ideal way to evolve his character but for what it is at least he’s trending in the right direction. Episode 1 was trash and Episode 2 was above average. I’m placing my expectations for this one at dead average, but the later episodes this season look a lot more compelling.
I'm just unimaginably hyped for the mysterious spaghetti episode. And that's the one right after this.
I have my theory about that one and I personally am excited for it but it’s not the one I’m most hype for. Unmortricken and the finale look interesting, with Wet Hot Amortican Summer as a wildcard.
At the NYCC panel, the adult swim reps said that the spaghetti episode will be big. “Like the vat of acid”.
Can you provide a source for that? I can’t find a video anywhere.
>Backs down from ridiculing scientology
Yep, the show is truly dead without Justin
They are not a legitimate religion and the people involved with them deserve to face prosecution and punishment under the law
>People making this a scientologist privilege thing
The reason they picked scientology is because it’s goofy and you could make a Tom Cruise joke. The point is to show how far Rick has developed (from episode one of PEE PEE POO POO GOD DOESN’T REAL MORTY). It’s actually a significant moment for his character.
I hope it's not unironically what you suggest, because Scientology is fairly obviously much worse than a typical religion. It'd basically be like Rick suddenly facing towards the camera and pledging allegiance to ISIS unironically.
If the joke was about Christianity it would be too loaded and serious. Scientology actually works better precisely because it’s objectively ridiculous. Despite that, Rick acknowledges that he shouldn’t tell people what to believe just because it’s silly.
The point is that Scientology isn't merely silly, it's a very real and powerful evil.
Normies don’t see it that way. Remember who it is that writes these episodes. To most people Scientologists are those weird Space Mormons + Tom Cruise. You’re not wrong but I don’t think that was a factor in the joke.
Are you moronic? Having Rick tolerate scientologists would be a step back for his character, REAL PEOPLE condemn them for REAL, LEGITIMATE REASONS
They are a bunch of frauds selling lies, they aren't any different from gwyneth paltrow and her goop nonsense
See
Y'know, wonder if they'll do anything with the fact that they shattered that barrier of the universes where rick ISN'T the smartest man. That would mean you could show a guy who is, in fact, smarter than rick.
Maybe the smartest man is Bigfoot now.
Honestly Rick vs Bigfoot with Morty tagging along sounds fun
Morty seems like he's taken a backseat. Or more specifically, it seems like he's gotten pretty much independent from Rick's general adventures, given how he was able to just go get crystals all by himself. I wonder if they're gonna do anything with that.
Based on what little we know about future episodes it seems like Morty is going to be a lot more present later in the season.
Rick's voice actor is so bad holy shit
Sounds like he has a sore throat
He’s not bad, but he does make Rick sound like he needs a lozenge. I'm mostly fine with it.
>In this episode Dr. Wong gets BLACKED.com and Rick fights bigfoot
Thanks Dan, very cool.
What if Dr. Wong and the president never actually frick and at the end of the episode Rick finds out and actually complains about it because he's meta aware and he realizes that this means that the episode went nowhere?
I’m starting to think anon’s parasite theory is right.
It's hard to unsee, isn't it?
It’s agreed upon as one of the best episodes in the series, I could see them going for it in a big move. Gene is suspicious but now I’m suspicious of the president and wong too.
QRD? Sounds interesting, probably too interesting to be what's actually going to happen.
He laid it out better but the short version is the memory parasites weren’t actually eradicated. That Dan Harmon and company are playing a long con for another reveal on the level of introducing the multiversal concept. Characters like Mr. Poopybutthole and Gene from episode one are actually memory parasites. Could be in general (he spawned if after watching the sperm episode religiously) or it could be contained to Parmesan universe. Keep an eye on Gene.
>Hello. I'm President Andre Curtis.
>Yes, I recognize you.
>Oh, how nice.
>It's not nice to recognize a president. Can we go?
OH FRICK
>the writing has gotten so bad that the parasite anon theory seems more reasonable
oh no
She's fine.
Jeeze, this VA is distracting. Has anyone AI'd the first 2 episodes yet?
THIS, I wanna know too. Surely some Autist has done it by now RIGHT?!?
The new voices for Rick and morty seem to be getting worse with each new episode.
so its safe to mark this episode down as bad?
It’s a weak premise but you never know.
I don't get it. They were happy this way. They were perfectly capable of rescuing their family as they were. Why did they need to do that transformation? Just seemed to be a downgrade that made it seem like they needed to return to that status quo.
they thought it'd be something cool to do as a last hurrah, which is a very Jerry thing
>this will be the only good episode this season
grim
The point was to show that they’re so close yet so far. You’re feeling the right emotion, just channeling it wrong. If anything, it shows that the writers are still on the right side of the overarching philosophical conflict of the show (Rick’s nihilism is logical, but incorrect. Things do matter if you let them matter.)
>I don't get it, they were happy this way
I like to think it’s because of the Jerry portion of their brains. He did the same thing in the night family episode when he made Summer join him in the escape car, even though there was 0 reason.
Every episode with the president sucks. Prove me wrong.
No you're pretty much right.
yikes
Well I hope Susan Sarandan is enjoying the paychecks.
Rick has a crush on wong, that's fantastic.
Do you think the President's gonna cuck him bro? Will she bring it up during therapy bro?
She'd never bring it up during, she's too professional.
In fact, I predict that it's going to end up being so incredibly ambiguous that it'll drive Rick crazy, and he's gonna end the episode accepting that he'll never know for sure if they boned or not while he was busy getting beat up by a sasquatch.
There is no way that either the president or Wong has the ability to prevent Rick from spying on them if he wants to know.
but he would be too busy with the sasquatch mission, he'd be off the grid trying to hunt it down or incapacitated by it.
months would go by, and when he gets back he'd find no trace of it anywhere on his usual monitoring equipment, except for a gap of time where they were both someplace he didn't put cameras. it could be a coincidence that they both suddenly vanished, and even the times themselves only overlap and aren't simultaneous. maybe they're even at opposite sides of the country when the gap happens. doesn't matter, he gets obsessed with figuring it out.
Yes, i absolutely expect him to get cucked because modern writers can only ever do misery porn and nobody is allowed to be happy.
I don’t think they’re going there, but it could be interesting. It would make a lot of sense. Unfortunately she’s currently too boring for her and Rick to start something, so if anyone wins it’ll be the president.
I wonder what the anon who drew this last season is up to now. Maybe he predicted something, in a one-sided sense.
Artist made Rick look so cute…
i have to add "just dropped" to filters
At this point why are you even on Cinemaphile if you're just filtering shit? Go to other sites.
Dr. Wong is unironically the best Rick ship currently available (that isn’t porn only or gay).
So what’ll it be, fellas? Rick get GF or Rick get cucked by the president?
Both. Rick/Wong/Curtis threesome.
Yeah, the most disgusting non-cathartic direction sounds like what they’d do.
Wong's too professional to violate the therapist-client relationship like that.
Wong is pretty much the only character that hasn’t compromised her principles. I wonder if she’ll stay that way by the time the episode ends. If so then this is going to be mostly a President/Rick conflict.
Rick get GF would be too interesting for them to try.
Threadly reminder that Pickle Rick is Dan Harmon’s favorite episode.
Rick's voice does almost sound like Roiland. But it is off. Same with Morty. I know people have complained and want Roiland back. Was dumb to fricking kick him off. Solar Opposites also changed his VA but while the VA is completely different he gets the mannerisms right and how Korvo acts right. It's just... you know, British.
I think Solar Opposites had the right idea using a completely different voice.
>That episode description
It was slapping us in the face this whole time.
Calling it now: this episode hits on a concept called erotic transference. Some therapy patients romanticize/eroticize the supportive, intimate though one-sided relationship with their therapist, for example if they've been seriously deprived of deep, healthy relationships in their everyday life. Makes sense that widower!Rick would subconsciously view Dr. Wong as a quasi-spouse. It's serious misconduct for therapists to flirt or sleep with their patients though and they can lose their license for it. Anyway it sounds like something Dan Harmon would know about from personal experience. Or someone in the writers room is a fan of The Sopranos.
Yeah, Rick crushing on Wong has Dan written all over it.
Is it also serious misconduct for therapists to flirt of sleep with their patients' close associates (like, here, the president)?
>Is it also serious misconduct for therapists to flirt of sleep with their patients' close associates (like, here, the president)?
Yes, it's explicitly prohibited by the American Counseling Association to sleep with a client's spouse/romantic partner or family member. Sleeping with a friend of the client (in Rick's case, a frenemy) is less clear cut. Bottom line is that therapists are supposed to avoid actions that would harm their patients; it's called non-maleficence. In my opinion, knowingly sleeping with a client's very close friend would qualify as maleficence. So would it be maleficence for Wong to hook up with Keith David President? I don't think so because if Rick is hurt by it, it's because he has erotic transference and feels overly involved in his therapist's love life through no fault of her own.
t. NOT a mental healthcare student or professional
It should have ended years ago. The peak was the whole Mcdonalds sauce shit to shitpost about
Rick doesn’t have feelings for Wong, he just values her a lot exactly where she is and he’s afraid that if the president starts dating her it’ll screw everything up.
sounds pretty lame
What if he made a clone of her who only existed for the duration of their sessions?
Nah, Rick has good taste.
>youtube link
who watches shit from that pozzed anti-adblock site anymore
trying too hard m8
i literally cannot watch it you little shit, put it on b***hute or something
>literally cannot
I roll to disbelieve.
the entire space where the video is is blocked
use an invidious instance
i'm streaming links through vlc now
>he can't bypass the anti-adblock
Skill issue.
Get the fricking uBlock Origin, I never seen anti-adblock stuff on youtube
yeah i did that like 6 hours ago
Did the president say arnold or andrew?
I heard Andre. I heard it repeatedly again on relistens.
Since when do people want Rick to date Dr. Wong?
Since the idea occurred to us.
you know what makes no sense? rick’s friends (bird person, gear head, mr poopy butthole, etc) being the same original people even though rick changed universes 3 times
They're from space. Space alternate dimensions aren't the same. It sounds stupid, so much so that they never actually say it on the show, but it seems to be the implicit rule.
turn your brain off, the dimension-hopping stops making sense the more you try to nitpick. You should only focus on how it affects the main family and their infinite counterparts.
yeah considering they selectively let characters age while everyone else doesn’t is enough to make me turn my brain off
Who's to say they aren't different versions as well? The only difference between universes is minimal after all.
Pretty fricked up if there's a version of Bird Person abandoned because Rick fricked up Earth, and then another version who Rick allowed to get frundled when Frundle Earth inevitably consumes his universe.
Birdperson we know for sure should be the original seeing as how in his season 5 episode, Rick explicitly stated grabbing another BP from a different universe wasn't an option because he loved "his" BP just that much. However, that opens up a whole new ugly can of worms because it implies that BP is his sole favorite friend and that he couldn't give less of a shit about Squanchy and the rest of them.
Hell, if the show really wanted to get dark, they could do an episode about his former friends wanting revenge. Remember that the president, who by the time of season 5 is close to Rick's equal in technology, could have very well survived the earth getting Frundled seeing as how he has his own space station.
Does anyone actually like the president? He's such a lame character, yet he keeps getting spotlights.
He still gets some funny moments here and there. They just use him way too often that he starts becoming draining. I get that Harmon loves Keith David, but the president character just is not needed every season.
>every season
At this point he's twice a season. He showed up once in season two, once in season three, he skipped season four but then he was twice in season five and twice in season six, and now here he is in season seven, who knows whether this is the one president episode this season or not. Technically he was in season five three times but one of them was just a cameo.
>he was twice in season five
three times in season five, but the first time was only a single 30 second scene
I'm kind of okay with him warming up so well to therapy, since we've seen him be compassionate and open to sentiment before. I don't know who the frick is poisoning the well with this sympathy for scientology, jesus christ.
>openly mock Christians and Jesús constantly
>grovel before scientology
>oh MAN you gotta CHECK OUT this COLD OPEN on this SCRIPT-DRIVEN cartoon!!!
God all this TV lingo around this cartoon is so fricking cringe.
??
Like how they ended the dog world episode with a joke about board driven vs script driven and how this is the only cartoon ever to promote its "cold opens" like it's fricking SNL. Rick and Morty is so steeped in this self-aware Hollywood bullshit culture in ways I cannot think of for any other cartoon.
where's morty
The show is now just "Rick".
More like "Rick and ..."
What if every episode of this season is just Rick teaming up with someone else completely forgetting about Morty?
So far we had "Rick and PB", "Rick and Jerry" and now "Rick and President".
The only "exception" would be the mindblowers episode, which is instead "Summer and Morty" and it's an anthology episode anyway, so Morty's still barely in it. They'll just be watching bits of various "Rick and Summer" adventures!
There’s an upcoming episode that’s pretty clearly a Morty episode.
Hopefully the Blade episode delivers
his voice just falls apart with anything above regular conversation
Does nobody remember what happened to Clarence? Ren and Stimpy?
Clarence was a seemless transition though. You couldn't hear or feel the switch.
They repeat the characters so much to have a reason to pay voice actors. It's disgusting.
Is that disgusting?
Old Rick and Morty would come up with random new characters in every episode. Now you have Mr Poopubutthole, the President of America, Birdman, Gearshead, Betty, so much fricking on, in nearly every episode.
This is how the Simpsons lost their edge as well. They were trying to make us laugh at the circus of characters they have, which comes off as annoying because those characters weren't made to be constantly on screen.
this would be pretty funny if it didn't cuck rick into wanting therapy.
Do you believe in therapy Cinemaphile? I am obviously talking about psychiatry here, not getting your legs to work after an accident.
It seems like 50% quackery and 50% monetizing the benefits of social interaction to me. Talking to your friends, or using a confession booth would probably help just as much, and for a much smaller sum.
Why are therapists called "shrinks"? I know it's derogatory but still, where did that come from? What, do they shrink the brains of their patients?
