God i hate him in this so much. I mean i guess I'm glad he's still alive but he's too meek to be scott. Frick i hate the movie so much. It preemptively ruined this animated series.
Holy shit I hate his voice
I've never seen the movie, and apparently I forgot what that guy sounds like so that's an unpleasant surprise
His voice is so annoying, I don't know if I can stomach him voicing the main character
Wallace sounds fine
Gonna have to disagree on this one. Yeah there surely exists actual voice actors that could've fit the part better, but considering they're so dead set on bring back everyone from the movie, I'm pleasantly surprised that Cera is clearly putting in more effort to make his voice livelier for animation in contrast to how mumblecore he was in live action.
To me the biggest problem here is those voices coming out of anime flaps mouths. If the mouth movements actually matched the words then it'd be 100x better.
Oof, this really doesn't compare favourably against the same scenes from the movie. The editing was so much tighter there, the acting better, and where the frick is the music?
this is where i think this fails, its much slower than the movie pacing and i don't think it benefits. edgar wright's rapid fire pacing matched the comic very well until it diverged from the source material halfway through.
The chainsaw man anime flopped for a similar reason. They took source material that is fast paced and frantic and turned it slow and shoegazey retrospective when they animated it.
>chainsaw man anime flopped >despite it getting another season, a movie and even a stageplay
It didn't flop just because an article had bluray sales when the thing was barely out for more than a few days
Also CSM isn't really fast paced all the time, it's half action and half character interactions that simulate movies Fujimoto likes. It actually captures a lot of those scenes pretty well
>despite it getting another season, a movie and even a stageplay
Only one of those is true, the one getting a (compilation) movie was its main competitor.
They are nowhere near as starved of work as you think they are. Some of them already had projects going on.
All of them except Cera, of course. Which is ironic, because he was the "big star" of the movie at that time.
>It’s that time where Cinemaphile finds the most autistic and non-significant criticisms to fake pretend to be outraged over while worshipping Amphibia and Fionna and Cake a minute later
Scott seems gayer than in any other adaption. Also, this is very low energy. I had high hopes for this but the bad voice acting could drag it down. Seems like they are going for Bee and Puppycat levels of energy and joke pacing.
>Series ends with Scott realizing he's gay and has a 20 min long bareback anal scene with Wallace in the very bed they sleep in. >Ramona cries while fingering herself
Because Scott is a slob who doesn't give a shit about sharing a bed with anyone + Wallace sort of thinks Scott is hot and/or pities him enough to allow him to sleep with him too.
Probably because Scott can't afford one and Wallace doesn't feel the need to spring for one.
Ramona specifically criticizes the place for not having a couch or anything (since they have to eat on the floor the first time she comes over properly).
The one issue with adapting a comic like this is everyone always has a different idea how they sound, and even with a film before as reference they aren’t going to sound exactly as people think
Cuphead had a similar issue
yes, i'm sure the shows still gonna be great but i was afraid this shit was gonna happen. I have still rarely ever seen celebs ease into normal voice acting well.
This isn't common knowledge if you're not american, homosexuals. First time I heard of Netflix was when they started producing drama shows with House of Cards.
Yes, they delivered other things too. I have a copy of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance that I never had to return after they decided to wind down their mail order game rentals.
It was a really good deal tbh, maybe it was actually too good to be true because of VC money but it worked really nicely for games because you were just limited to having a single game (or a couple if you paid more) but could keep it as long as you needed. Time sensitive game rentals don't work well because you don't know how long you'll want to play them before you're done, this way I was able to rent oblivion and keep it for months until I decided to just buy it.
Actually come to think of it, maybe this wasn't Netflix, I think we actually used LoveFilm which got bought by Amazon and turned into Prime Video. Think it was a similar story for Netflix though.
It's kind of amazing how much less interesting the clip is than its source material.
In the novel Scott's going around the party asking people about Ramona cause... it's a party.
In this he just talks to Aubrey Plaza in a corner where no one else is visible.
am I the only one that thinks the lip sync should've been animated better, instead of how they typically do it in anime? Like not even just that, better character acting too
Damn I think the voice acting is a tad bit off but I can get used to it, I hope they shit all the episodes out so I can watch it in one go, the animation looks really nice and I'm glad that it seems faithful
>I hope they shit all the episodes out so I can watch it in one go
for frick sakes please no, companies need to stop doing this. Most shows die within 2 weeks only to be randomly talked about for a few posts. Unless its something massively popular.
what caused the movie to blow up in popularity so much anyway? It wasn't bad, but the comics are just so much better. Are people that alergic to fricking reading? Comics are literally picture books.
Honestly yes they are. It was a quirky video game reference movie with good editing and even if the comic is a 9 at the time, the movie is like a 7 which is still pretty good. As a fan of the comics and game, i really despite the movie for being the most popular iteration.
> what caused the movie to blow up in popularity so much anyway?
directed by edgar wright, half the appeal of the movie was the visual comedy/direction anyways, certainly not the actors.
What annoys me is how they had to change it to Netflix. I mean I guess it's cuz it's the company funding this. But Amazon still would have worked. I guess it gives some time for name drops.
Yeah, they made a big deal about how Ramona couldn't work for Amazon today, but if they were just going to make it a period piece anyway then what's the point?
So? Maybe if these were 1980s japs we were talking about that might make sense but modern big tech doesn't have some autistic complex about pretending their competitors don't exist - especially when it's not even the bit they're in competition with.
If they changed it to have her be a Netflix delivery girl it probably wasn't to change it away from being an Amazon delivery, it was to include a charming (they would hope) dated reference to Netflix as it was in an era that many have forgotten.
Yeah, they made a big deal about how Ramona couldn't work for Amazon today, but if they were just going to make it a period piece anyway then what's the point?
Why would Netflix fund a production then give free advertising to Amazon, their competitor? Are you people stupid?
>Ugly gradient coloring >Things randomly out of focus makes it look annoying >choppy fast animation to hide lack of frames
I rather it look like the short.
That's one factor, but that doesn't really explain why people think that Cera specifically was miscast. I agree with people who say he doesn't fit the role. He's an ugly dweeb with ugly dweeb voice, and on top of that it also sounded kind of unnatural, like he's going out of his way to sound dainty. This totally doesn't fit my image of Scott.
I think it looks fantastic, but the voice acting complaints are valid. If it stinks i'll just switch to JP audio and pretend it's an anime or something.
Huh, it looks like they actually did the lip flaps with the JP dub in mind. It feels slightly off for the English speakers, but when I watched the JP dub, it seemed to line up better.
This is just one scene but I hope to God that wasn't one of the best scenes. The voice acting sounds like separate recordings, which is a failure on the sound design's end, the pacing is too slow, even considering the comics, and the style is so bland compared to the feeling I got reading it and watching the movie.
Might be good but I'm not as excited anymore to see it.
>general consensus is that Scott Pilgrim movie is good but has casting and stunt coordination problems >Bring back the cast
Fricking why
For what reason
Yes it was
Cera and Winstead ruin the movie and a chunk of the stunts (especially in the first fight) are weightless and impactless. Cera parrying and punching looks like shit every time.
Cera's voice doesn't fit the design
i don't really agree. i think cera's voice actually fits the animated scott better than his physical body fit the character in the live action.
Cera never fit the character. He's too awkward/puppydog to truly be like Scott
they should have hired real voice actors. I will stay with the jap dub.
Cera should have never had anything to do with this especially fricking Scott of all people.
agree, horrible casting
God i hate him in this so much. I mean i guess I'm glad he's still alive but he's too meek to be scott. Frick i hate the movie so much. It preemptively ruined this animated series.
I disagree, I'm impressed he's actually putting energy into the voice instead of doing his usual Cera-isms.
Holy shit I hate his voice
I've never seen the movie, and apparently I forgot what that guy sounds like so that's an unpleasant surprise
His voice is so annoying, I don't know if I can stomach him voicing the main character
Wallace sounds fine
He sounds okay. Wallace sounds like shit.
I agree with
While he probably isn't the best casting for a more comic accurate Scott, he's putting in the effort to sound more high energy and fun.
>Micheal Cera
To me the biggest problem here is those voices coming out of anime flaps mouths. If the mouth movements actually matched the words then it'd be 100x better.
You all wanted an anime, you’re getting one
That includes the standard of mouths not matching dialogue
Who did? It's Cinemaphile.
Now the hottest guy in animation
It's weird that Cera is using the voice people who dub anime use and not his own voice.

Only one of those is true, the one getting a (compilation) movie was its main competitor.
The score is being done by the band that did the video game. It was liked there.
I know but I mean, maybe the scenes wouldn't feel so awkward and lifeless with some BGM.
It feels really moronic to me that they are using movie actors for the voice actors in this. Those are very separate versions of the characters.
They need the work. Seriously, even Evans has been pretty dry since Endgame unless you count Lightyear
Knives Out
They are nowhere near as starved of work as you think they are. Some of them already had projects going on.
All of them except Cera, of course. Which is ironic, because he was the "big star" of the movie at that time.
Wasn't he just in Barbie, the biggest movie of the year?
he was, and i believe hes leading the next wes anderson movie
These people can't voice act for shit. I'll have to watch it in Japanese.
What's with the line weight? Feels way too light at times.
>It’s that time where Cinemaphile finds the most autistic and non-significant criticisms to fake pretend to be outraged over while worshipping Amphibia and Fionna and Cake a minute later
Cinemaphile hates all of those things, schizo
>Cinemaphile is one person
I don't watch either of those shows, I love Scott pilgrim, I don't think the celeb voices fit
>Cinemaphile is one person
Yes. Hell, one may be an overestimate. Cinemaphile is botted to shit
>SPvsTW
>Gets the watchmen treatment
This honestly sounds like a better ending.
inshallah
Who tops who though? Or do you think they top each other?
Wallace always tops, not even a question
Kino, I will now watch your anime (pirates day 1)
Thematically consistent with the series.
>with Wallace
Ironically a better match for him than fricking Ramona.
Uh, Scottbros, I think the fujochads were right when they said Scott is getting banged by Wallace and enjoying it...
Why do they share a bed anyways.
Don't they have a couch one could sleep on?
Because Scott is a slob who doesn't give a shit about sharing a bed with anyone + Wallace sort of thinks Scott is hot and/or pities him enough to allow him to sleep with him too.
Wrong. Scott is a rentboy who sleeps with Wallace for rent
Sure Scott. We know what really goes on
Probably because Scott can't afford one and Wallace doesn't feel the need to spring for one.
Ramona specifically criticizes the place for not having a couch or anything (since they have to eat on the floor the first time she comes over properly).
God this feels so dry. The voice actors all sound bored and tired.
i think cera sounds fine, julie sounds...passable (less energy than the movie) but wallace straight up comes off bored.
The one issue with adapting a comic like this is everyone always has a different idea how they sound, and even with a film before as reference they aren’t going to sound exactly as people think

nice try satan she has fricked more than that
Nah, if you play the game, every single enemy you have to beat up is someone Rammy has fricked
>recoil
>close door
>jerk off to pics of julie
>Ew gross, hey have you seen Kim?
looks great, cartoons should be animated by japanese more often
Looks fine is stills, animation is ass and moves like a slideshow
they should've got different voice actors to do this, getting the movie actors for this might not be a good fit.
... you mean... pausing... soft talking... Micheal Cera... won't fit?
yes, i'm sure the shows still gonna be great but i was afraid this shit was gonna happen. I have still rarely ever seen celebs ease into normal voice acting well.
So what's the lore about Ramona's new job? Did Netflix really use to be a DVD mail order?
they still do, I think they will stop delivering next year
lmaooo zoomer
its how they started out
>Did Netflix really use to be a DVD mail order?
oh, so thats how it feels like to read questions like this at this age
This isn't common knowledge if you're not american, homosexuals. First time I heard of Netflix was when they started producing drama shows with House of Cards.
If you're not American you don't belong on this website. Go back to throwing rocks at pigeons.
Did you know that the "save" icon is a floppy disk?
Yes, they delivered other things too. I have a copy of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance that I never had to return after they decided to wind down their mail order game rentals.

well, i guess i'll watch it in jap
The Expressions look very emotionless hopefully the action looks better
I'm just gonna say it. He cute.
what the frick is up with the blurry background shit?
looks awful and hurts my eyes
>beautiful colors and lovely character designs
Yay it's an anime!
>clunky dialogue, weird pacing and terrible mouth movements
Right, it's an anime...
It's kind of amazing how much less interesting the clip is than its source material.
In the novel Scott's going around the party asking people about Ramona cause... it's a party.
In this he just talks to Aubrey Plaza in a corner where no one else is visible.
No one socializes outside very small circles in 2023 anymore please understand we have to make it relatable to awkward modern audiences
It was made better in the movie, where it was a montage of various people at the party giving Scott bits of information.
You're being dishonest but okay
HEY ANONS LOOK IT'S KIM PINE'S HAIRY RED PUSSY!! CONSUME THE SHOW NOW
the entire show is going to be centered around the gay lovelives of Scott's LGBTQ+ friendgroup.
am I the only one that thinks the lip sync should've been animated better, instead of how they typically do it in anime? Like not even just that, better character acting too
I'm glad they <3 Felix the Cat (homosexually)
It sounds like they told them to "talk like anime characters". I really hope I'm not noticing it by the end of the first episode
shot in the dark, but anyone got that scott pilgay someone shitposted on youtube with well over a decade ago?
why of course, anon

>Max G
I remember also reading the first chapter of Scott Pilgrim live on his podcast, he really hated it
Damn I think the voice acting is a tad bit off but I can get used to it, I hope they shit all the episodes out so I can watch it in one go, the animation looks really nice and I'm glad that it seems faithful

for frick sakes please no, companies need to stop doing this. Most shows die within 2 weeks only to be randomly talked about for a few posts. Unless its something massively popular.
lol why is the pacing of the dialogue so insanely off? The characters have massive pauses for some reason. The art style is wonderful at least.
I really hope we get a second pass at this voice acting. This is really rough and the timing just feels off.
awful
It's over.
what caused the movie to blow up in popularity so much anyway? It wasn't bad, but the comics are just so much better. Are people that alergic to fricking reading? Comics are literally picture books.

directed by edgar wright, half the appeal of the movie was the visual comedy/direction anyways, certainly not the actors.
I mean I'm pretty sure the actors factored into it. If that weren't a big deal, they wouldn't have bothered trying to get ALL of them back.
What annoys me is how they had to change it to Netflix. I mean I guess it's cuz it's the company funding this. But Amazon still would have worked. I guess it gives some time for name drops.

Yes, they do, especially Bezos.

No I understand. I'm just being a pedantic shit about a 2 min clip for a show I will probably marathon in one sitting.
>Ugly gradient coloring
>Things randomly out of focus makes it look annoying
>choppy fast animation to hide lack of frames
I rather it look like the short.
The voice acting is really bad and unfitting.
Voice acting seems fine but people aren't use to use very subtle and natural voice work in anime looking shit imo.

Is Scott Pilgrim even popular in Japan? Popular enough to get a Japanese dub?
Dunno about question 1, but it is getting a JP dub.
https://twitter.com/NetflixJP/status/1707077642116092035
Literally everything that is sold in Japan gets dubbed
Huh, it looks like they actually did the lip flaps with the JP dub in mind. It feels slightly off for the English speakers, but when I watched the JP dub, it seemed to line up better.
Nice
Not impressed, but I'm pretty confident Brie will deliver and be best girl once again
This is just one scene but I hope to God that wasn't one of the best scenes. Dubgays on suicide watch.
Now I kind of wish it wasn't. I can't stand Cera Scott
I wonder how much autistic screeching he got that he had to clarify.
The only new gay you'll get from this is Knives hooking up with Kim, lol
I hope so. They are pretty cute together
>Implying we aren’t going to get some yaoi teasing with the roommates
I fricking HATE how the depth of field looks with the horizontal blur filter. Otherwise looks good.
>general consensus is that Scott Pilgrim movie is good but has casting and stunt coordination problems

Uh, that was never the general consensus.
For c*ra it was, yes
Yes it was
Cera and Winstead ruin the movie and a chunk of the stunts (especially in the first fight) are weightless and impactless. Cera parrying and punching looks like shit every time.
>Wallace wanders in the wrong club.gif

looks weird movement wise. prefer the adobe flash version they made years ago.
This is literally "animated" in Flash.
The voice acting is much better though, how did they frick it up so hard in the new show?
