I actually preferred the old designs better. Not as metallic shiny. And I also like the shape of the old shuttles more.

I really had no interest in this show early on, I don't like quippyness or jokiness, I like serious plots, I like TNG

They toned down the comedy in season three. Its the closest thing to TNG being made now. Unfortunately as I understand it there are no plans for a season 4.

The comedy can be hit or miss, especially in early S1, and it recycles a lot of Trek trope plots, but when an episode lands its pretty decent. Go in with low expectations.
I relate to this robot because his autistic lack of understanding of social interactions, combined with being lonely but also not knowing why everyone on the ship hates him, is my daily life. Sometimes I wonder if I am a robot and nobody ever told me.
