Oooo a trainspotting thread i quite enjoyed the last one I posted in. It's 8.24am and I am waiting til 9am which is when my heroin dealer turns on his phone and I've been up since 7am yesterday morning today was today and the minutes have passed like hours baka.

Also this new version looks absolutely soulless the original has way more soul and better colour frick the new trash and frick DVDs I haven't bought physical media In about 18 years lol I pirate everything

That's I was for the last few days and you know how the time goes slower and slower the closer you get to payday lol? Frick that. I actually got clean for a while but I ended up using again but at least now I only smoke it. I gave it all up because I couldn't find a vein anymore then when I started using again I just smoked it. Hit an artery in my leg a couple times and that is THE MOST painful thing you could ever imagine so I don't want to risk that again and also some girl I know who was injecting in her legs and groin ended up with a couple of huge abscess on each leg and they cut her open to drain them and something about them healing from the inside out meant they literally had to just leave her with open wounds packed out with stuff and that scared me out of ever trying to bang up again in my life and I never will again. Took a while for smoking to start affecting me because my tolerance was so high and I was literally smoking a sixteenth a day (£65). And now the Taliban are strangling the poppy supply coz they don't want people selling anymore the stuff is getting cut too much and it's only a matter of time til the local dealers start selling gear cut with fent which wasn't really a thing here in the UK til just recently I heard of a couple people dying in another county from fent cut gear. What's it like where you live breh? Sorry for the long ass blogpost kek

The fent is coming and it might just kill you unless you stop now. It has killed many people in my old community. People I knew people I even had sex with. Some were even my friends. You don't think it'll happen no one does. RIP.

That happened to me last year my main man got raided and then nobody else could get anything for months so I ended up resorting to dark web markets but I was so paranoid I would just lose my money or have the police arrive instead of the drugs lol. Bought from there 3 times twice went ok and the last time I ended up losing like £80 so I never did that again. It's a shame coz the stuff I was getting was great. Where are you from and what's the stuff like there? That guy who got raided didn't get caught with anything except for a couple oz of green and just got a fine but he didn't start serving again til his court case was over. Now he works with a couple of other people and doesn't get his hands dirty. Anf the dude is literally a millionaire he's the only dealer in our whole town other than one other pikey lad who basically just sells heavily cut stuff cut with glucose and manatol and you can tell coz it's like a red colour on the foil.

In old turkeyed twice from black tar, it’s not that bad. The fever dreams will only last a few days depending on your daily usage, it’s a fun ride. Good little challenge and fight to make you realize you’re alive. Watch how good you feel after a few weeks as your synapses snap back and function for the first time in years at full capacity. Avoid jerking off, semen retention will make you a lot stronger and capable of withstanding the pain, mental and physical. Try not to use other drugs as a crutch like weed or tobacco. Fasting will be necessary initially but when you feel like eating again, start small like chocolate whey with frozen blueberries in a blender with whole milk. Then go onto eggs and ground beef or steak. The cholesterol will help heal the brain and bring back your endocrine system. Good luck, have fun. God bless

Most people here are about mid to late millenials or zoomers, they aren't probably connecting with the major themes of the movie that revolve around aging. Late millenials and Gen X (who made the movie and who the primary audience was for the first one) probably connected to the movie more immediately

        Anonymous

Yeah I'm 40, late millennial. I watched the movie on VHS when I was a teenager on our big screen projection TV. When I watched T2 it definitely hit that "i'm getting old" button.

I actually thought they did a good job not going overboard with callbacks to the original. The sequel does has a nostalgic feel to it, but it's done in a way to serve the story. It highlights the growth of the characters over the 20 years between the two films, which is one of the main themes of themes of the sequel.

Criterion always made excuses on how their remasters were coming from their selected film director's own original vision but man, movies they remaster all have these same-y looking color filter, like what's up with that? Do people like Michael Mann, Danny Boyle, Bong Joon-Ho suddenly developed some kind of color blindness at the same time or something?

They really aren't all like that. People focus on a few weird cases but none of their releases for Lynch or Scorsese are like that, for example. Wong Kar-Wai was up front about the collection of his films being revisionist and the changes were done by his company Jet Tone with Criterion being only the distributor. Michael Mann's films other than Thief have also had their colors fricked with over time so that's presumably his thing. The rest of the Trainspotting screens look normal, and there is evidence that the green version of Memories of Murder is closer to what was shown in theater but people are so stuck in the assumption that initial home releases are correct thst they won't accept it when you show them.
Meanwhile the majority of their films just look normal but nobody on Cinemaphile is going to make a favorable screenshot comparison and post it repeatedly for years. Same goes for every other distributor.
The thing you really have to look out for is the name L'Immagine Ritriovata in the restoration credits, because they do always make films look like they have an Instagram filter applied.

This is unironically the case. Older people have yellower vision, this is why they're compensating by adding so much blue.

everyone forgets the epilogue of the film is shot on film, stating from the CU of Jim waking up a second time. the whole film is building to that solace, and it's more effective with the clarity and brightness of 35mm versus the dark and muddy tape shit we've been enduring. this effect will only gets more pronounced with further remastering.

Many studios have someone who does the filters and to justify their jobs they make big changes and justify them to execs, they may also have unions or at least office cliques supporting them and everything they do. They probably claim the dark blue filter makes it more "gritty" and "real".

It adds texture to flat images, giving them an ersatz sense of depth.

Similar thing happened with the recent 4k resto of the Three Colours movies. When it was unveiled people assumed it was a hack job because of the heavy yellow tint (on films themed around blue, white, and red no less). But there are photographs of copies of the film itself that confirm it's supposed to be that way: https://filmcolors.org/galleries/trois-couleurs-bleu-1993/
Of course there are releases where the colors really are just fricked, but I think people jump to conclusions too quickly and are biased toward whatever happens to be the first version of a film they see. Not sure about Trainspotters.

            Anonymous

Yeah it is a bit ironic that with some films people mock the blu rays and they think DVD is how the film must have originally looked. When in reality some of the DVD transfers were done really badly as well and didn't necessarily look like the theatrical prints at all. Roger Deakins has said bunch of times that the DVD's of Shawshank Redemption don't look good and that the color timing is all off on them.

    ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT.

Here’s a screengrab from the Criterion site. You can see a scene here.

Shit like this and the Thief "remaster" makes me wonder how much of classic cinema really was just a big fluke.

In the recolor I literally can't tell what the frick is happening. Stripping color out of an image removes the definition between shapes. It's as bad as making the whole image blurry.

Modern movies have the blue filter baked-in so nobody can claim the movie shouldn't be so blue.
Maybe they'll add another blue filter on top decades later.

This is the only example in the thread where the bottom actually looks better. What movie is that? They actually made it more colourful.
The charm of the original colour grading for train spotters is how the constantly overcast Scottish sky affects the film. That's what cheap film looks like in an overcast setting. The cheapness adds to the atmosphere, you're watching a movie about junkies.
