Oooo a trainspotting thread i quite enjoyed the last one I posted in. It's 8.24am and I am waiting til 9am which is when my heroin dealer turns on his phone and I've been up since 7am yesterday morning today was today and the minutes have passed like hours baka.
Also this new version looks absolutely soulless the original has way more soul and better colour frick the new trash and frick DVDs I haven't bought physical media In about 18 years lol I pirate everything
That's I was for the last few days and you know how the time goes slower and slower the closer you get to payday lol? Frick that. I actually got clean for a while but I ended up using again but at least now I only smoke it. I gave it all up because I couldn't find a vein anymore then when I started using again I just smoked it. Hit an artery in my leg a couple times and that is THE MOST painful thing you could ever imagine so I don't want to risk that again and also some girl I know who was injecting in her legs and groin ended up with a couple of huge abscess on each leg and they cut her open to drain them and something about them healing from the inside out meant they literally had to just leave her with open wounds packed out with stuff and that scared me out of ever trying to bang up again in my life and I never will again. Took a while for smoking to start affecting me because my tolerance was so high and I was literally smoking a sixteenth a day (£65). And now the Taliban are strangling the poppy supply coz they don't want people selling anymore the stuff is getting cut too much and it's only a matter of time til the local dealers start selling gear cut with fent which wasn't really a thing here in the UK til just recently I heard of a couple people dying in another county from fent cut gear. What's it like where you live breh? Sorry for the long ass blogpost kek
The fent is coming and it might just kill you unless you stop now. It has killed many people in my old community. People I knew people I even had sex with. Some were even my friends. You don't think it'll happen no one does. RIP.
I guess it is now. Like I said I really enjoyed the last one I saw a couple weeks ago I was surprised to speak to so many people that have been through the shit that I have!
That happened to me last year my main man got raided and then nobody else could get anything for months so I ended up resorting to dark web markets but I was so paranoid I would just lose my money or have the police arrive instead of the drugs lol. Bought from there 3 times twice went ok and the last time I ended up losing like £80 so I never did that again. It's a shame coz the stuff I was getting was great. Where are you from and what's the stuff like there? That guy who got raided didn't get caught with anything except for a couple oz of green and just got a fine but he didn't start serving again til his court case was over. Now he works with a couple of other people and doesn't get his hands dirty. Anf the dude is literally a millionaire he's the only dealer in our whole town other than one other pikey lad who basically just sells heavily cut stuff cut with glucose and manatol and you can tell coz it's like a red colour on the foil.
In old turkeyed twice from black tar, it’s not that bad. The fever dreams will only last a few days depending on your daily usage, it’s a fun ride. Good little challenge and fight to make you realize you’re alive. Watch how good you feel after a few weeks as your synapses snap back and function for the first time in years at full capacity. Avoid jerking off, semen retention will make you a lot stronger and capable of withstanding the pain, mental and physical. Try not to use other drugs as a crutch like weed or tobacco. Fasting will be necessary initially but when you feel like eating again, start small like chocolate whey with frozen blueberries in a blender with whole milk. Then go onto eggs and ground beef or steak. The cholesterol will help heal the brain and bring back your endocrine system. Good luck, have fun. God bless
Idk I don't mind the word cringe t.b.h there are many other zoomer/Black person words that should be filtered like on God no cap and frfr just to make a few lmao

The new one looks ten times better. Colour matches the sickly theme of the movie itself, and it looks like it was actually shot on film (which it was).
And before you "zoomer" me, i'm 43 and saw it on DVD when it first came out.
Correct
Criterion remaster means removing film grain and adding blue filters
They haven't remove the grain you twit.
Come on fellow addicts where the frick are you I need some counselling lmao
Used the shit for years. Had to quit cold turkey coz the supply ran out due to a major natural disaster in my city.
It was a nightmare but it's only for a week or 2. Just stop using it.
>same colours except for a slight reduction in that unnatural pink tint which clearly wasn't intentional >proper range of values so you can actually see the brickwork and shine on the walls and everything isn't hideously blown-out
just fricking turn the brightness up yourself if you want it to look like a cheap DVD transfer. sickboy isn't supposed to be wearing pink. his cigarette isn't supposed to be a solid white rectangle.
Are we actually going to pretend the bottom looks better? Top actually looks like it was shot on film, bottom looks like some terrible blown out early digital shit like 28 days later
Another thread of zoomers thinking pink saturated dvds from the 2000s(designed to compensate for old CRT colors) are how movies are supposed to look I see.

coke is fine if you just buy a small amount and do it like once a month or something but it’s generally not worth the money. A half bag can last me a week. Pills are better though tbh senpai
A week lmao! I know people who do a 3.5,g in one night of Coke. At my worst I was doing 3.5g of heroin everyday that was back when I was shoplifting like 10+ years ago though I stopped the theft after a couple short stints in jail. when I was in jail my next door celly was in for stabbing his wife 27 times or something in a hairdressers In Ashford you can find the story about it if you wanted to I looked it up when I got out. I was stuck in a holding cell for like 8 hours with the guy and he was like the nicest guy I met in there it's crazy he must have just snapped coz his wife was a cheating nagging b***h lmao
I never said it was cool I was just being open and honest in the hopes of finding people with similar stories to tell like the last trainspotting thread we had that I posted in. And btw I don't drink homie not since I was 22 now I'm 34. I was pretty much an alcoholic before the drugs and then the drugs took over now I hate drinking especially if trying to get clean as it makes me want to use also you know there is a high correlation between people who never took drugs and virgins right? Haha
That must be some shitty ass cut coke, I have not touched the stuff in 20 years but I doubt your friends are doing fish scale uncut blow, at least not an 8ball in a night.
Are you people living in my walls? I finally watched pic related tonight, just on whim, and holy shit! It was as good as the original. I loved seeing everyone older and a little wiser, learning to make peace with their past mistakes. I'm gonna watch it again tomorrow, because it was that fricking kino.
I’d have to watch it again to comment on how it holds up to the original but I remember watching it and actually be impressed, I was sure it was going to be trash.
Most people here are about mid to late millenials or zoomers, they aren't probably connecting with the major themes of the movie that revolve around aging. Late millenials and Gen X (who made the movie and who the primary audience was for the first one) probably connected to the movie more immediately
Yeah I'm 40, late millennial. I watched the movie on VHS when I was a teenager on our big screen projection TV. When I watched T2 it definitely hit that "i'm getting old" button.
There are so many kino moments in that film, I love it so fricking much. They should've cut down on the whole "THIS CHARACTER IS DOING THIS, REMEMBER THAT FROM THE ORIGINAL!!!" schtick.
I actually thought they did a good job not going overboard with callbacks to the original. The sequel does has a nostalgic feel to it, but it's done in a way to serve the story. It highlights the growth of the characters over the 20 years between the two films, which is one of the main themes of themes of the sequel.
>It was as good as the original
Are you fricking moronic. It was legit bad >"choose instagram...." >Francis Begby turns into a horror movie villain when in the previous film he was a violent hothead that had a lot of charm >entire 3rd act is literally a slasher movie finale >Rents gives all the money to some b***h >Spud writing a book called "Trainspotting"
don’t forget the Catholic shit!
lol I mean it had its charms I suppose but yeah it wasn’t anywhere as good as the first one
My main complaint was some of the acting seemed a bit unconvincing
Criterion always made excuses on how their remasters were coming from their selected film director's own original vision but man, movies they remaster all have these same-y looking color filter, like what's up with that? Do people like Michael Mann, Danny Boyle, Bong Joon-Ho suddenly developed some kind of color blindness at the same time or something?
They really aren't all like that. People focus on a few weird cases but none of their releases for Lynch or Scorsese are like that, for example. Wong Kar-Wai was up front about the collection of his films being revisionist and the changes were done by his company Jet Tone with Criterion being only the distributor. Michael Mann's films other than Thief have also had their colors fricked with over time so that's presumably his thing. The rest of the Trainspotting screens look normal, and there is evidence that the green version of Memories of Murder is closer to what was shown in theater but people are so stuck in the assumption that initial home releases are correct thst they won't accept it when you show them.
Meanwhile the majority of their films just look normal but nobody on Cinemaphile is going to make a favorable screenshot comparison and post it repeatedly for years. Same goes for every other distributor.
The thing you really have to look out for is the name L'Immagine Ritriovata in the restoration credits, because they do always make films look like they have an Instagram filter applied.
https://filmmakermagazine.com/117844-color-correction-styles-film-restorations/
>Do people like Michael Mann, Danny Boyle, Bong Joon-Ho suddenly developed some kind of color blindness at the same time or something?
This is unironically the case. Older people have yellower vision, this is why they're compensating by adding so much blue.
Are we actually going to pretend the bottom looks better? Top actually looks like it was shot on film, bottom looks like some terrible blown out early digital shit like 28 days later
everyone forgets the epilogue of the film is shot on film, stating from the CU of Jim waking up a second time. the whole film is building to that solace, and it's more effective with the clarity and brightness of 35mm versus the dark and muddy tape shit we've been enduring. this effect will only gets more pronounced with further remastering.
What's hilarious about 28 days is that I had forgotten about the handicam thing when I torrented and I thought I had downloaded a shit torrent. I trolled myself.
honestly, top looks like a scene from a proper film, and bottom looks like something I would catch on the telle.
nothing wrong with the top, you just need to adjust your tv settings to make it look brighter.
I'm disappointed I was hoping this thread would be like the other one a couple weeks ago where I had a nice conversation with some people who had been through the same shit as me with addiction and other bad stuff
Lmao. Touche. You have a good point I was just hoping to be able to talk to some people who understands what it's like coz except from my gf this is my only social life. Sad I know but 90% of people here in the same position I reckon. Like 95% of people outside of /b/ are virgins on any imageboards you encounter kek idk why tho it's kinda strange that imageboards are virgin magnets. You ever been to /LULZ/? Jheeeeeeeeeze
Yes, very much so
Although the island is owned by Christopher Lee and his strong English accent so you might be forgiven
But it's an island off the west coast of Scotland, and the detective is from... Edinburgh? Somewhere on the mainland
Many studios have someone who does the filters and to justify their jobs they make big changes and justify them to execs, they may also have unions or at least office cliques supporting them and everything they do. They probably claim the dark blue filter makes it more "gritty" and "real".
So they can sell you the re-remastered "masterpiece" edition in a couple years. Music industry has been shittily mixing albums, then releasing a remaster if it's popular, for decades now.
It adds texture to flat images, giving them an ersatz sense of depth.
Especially true for old anime, where it artificially made it seem like there was a lot more detail and shading than there actually was, at least some of the time.
It is a bit like people remember Matrix being super green whereas it was the DVD that they dialed in the green to the max and the theater prints had some green to them, but not as much as people think/remember
Similar thing happened with the recent 4k resto of the Three Colours movies. When it was unveiled people assumed it was a hack job because of the heavy yellow tint (on films themed around blue, white, and red no less). But there are photographs of copies of the film itself that confirm it's supposed to be that way: https://filmcolors.org/galleries/trois-couleurs-bleu-1993/
Of course there are releases where the colors really are just fricked, but I think people jump to conclusions too quickly and are biased toward whatever happens to be the first version of a film they see. Not sure about Trainspotters.
Yeah it is a bit ironic that with some films people mock the blu rays and they think DVD is how the film must have originally looked. When in reality some of the DVD transfers were done really badly as well and didn't necessarily look like the theatrical prints at all. Roger Deakins has said bunch of times that the DVD's of Shawshank Redemption don't look good and that the color timing is all off on them.
On that note, here's a comparison between multiple prior releases of Trainspotters, some of which are closer to the new 4k: https://nitter.privacydev.net/SadHillDevan/status/1714317990819500239

imagine if top left was the dvd, Cinemaphile would literally be pissing and screaming they added a color filter to it
Get addicted to making money. I've been trading the foreign exchange and it's a wild ride. Nothing hits your veins as hard as watching numbers go higher, into thousands of thousands only to lose it all in a few hours of slow decaying decrepit fallacy.
the cyan bluray shit was lazy 8 years ago, its parody at this point. What the frick are they doing? I'm not even advocating for it to look like the bottom one because bottom looks fricking bad too, but jesus.
The israelites behind criterion were always hacks. I also like how the worthless masses simply accent a worthless group of people engaging in literal death of an author systematically with each film they steal and resell on their dogshit website. It's unbelievable that the sheep masses simply eat this slop up and ask for seconds from a group of uncultured, uncreative swine that think pressing two buttons on an RGB slider is restoration. Absolute filth. Call them out as the grifters as they are.
Why do they do this? How hard is it just to fricking scan the film and sell that instead? Why do companies have to autistically recolor and format shit so much
I was in Edinburgh this month! It was neato!
Saw no heroin junkies, maybe they fixed that problem.
Anyway who is making the remaster anyway? Do the original creators have any input? I say its fine if its their vision.
It's not that deep.
They buy the rights at a bargain, "restore" it by pushing two sliders left and right on the RGB wheel. Crop it. Sub it. Cheaper to not bother with an cinematographer or color grader when you can literally just use Adobe Premiere or any other basic software to do it with incredible ease. Shill Brand Identity, Criterion Collection™. "We are le intelligent film auteur group, with a mission to restore great cinema". Sell it en masse at premium. Capitalism baby.
>check my drive >over 80% of the movies stored there are bluray rips and have this nasty blue / grey tint
It's over. My whole cinematic experience has been ruined.
I've been fed slop this whole time and I didn't even realize it.
The right looks desaturated because of hdr conversion bullshit. Watching it from the disc, it would be more vibrant. That release has other issues though, like Hackson's obsession with grain removal.
You know they do this just so they could resell the same shit to you over and over again.
10 years from now it's gonna be "TRAINSPOTTING IN 8K! THIS TIME WITH ACTUAL COLORS!"
I'm still waiting for a release of The Matrix that doesn't look like there's algae growing on my screen.
Looking good. Sometimes shit is salvageable, sometimes not.
looks way better than either of the frames in OP
they should just hire you to do the color grading
They don't want it to look good, they want it to look obnoxiously blue, for whatever mysterious reason. They've made this abundantly clear by their actions.
>Color grading is a conscious choice.
Yes, but always a wrong choice. It's mind boggling how moronic directors can be when the constraints come off. Ridley Scott ruining the color in his final directors cut of Blade Runner comes to mind. But I guess there's no accounting for shit taste and you have it, baby.
Why do you think needle sharing is such a problem? Many just don't have any needle supply of their own.
A lot of are relying on having a nurse as a friend or friend-of-a-friend that is willing to sneak out syringes for them.
I watched a documentary on how Stallone recut Rocky 4. He said he wanted to make it look "less 80s" and what we got was blue tint everywhere that looks like shit.
The final fight scene was a lot more impacting though, the upper hand going back and forth between them instead of Drago beating the snot out of Rocky and then Rocky beating the snot out of Drago.
> I am waiting til 9am which is when my heroin dealer turns on his phone and I've been up since 7am yesterday morning today was today and the minutes have passed like hours baka.
i haven't done heroin in years and after living a real/boring life do you know what i want? more heroin
life is shit
In the recolor I literally can't tell what the frick is happening. Stripping color out of an image removes the definition between shapes. It's as bad as making the whole image blurry.
remastering shit is so god damn moronic. just make good new movies leave the past in the past so what if it looks like shit in 4k not every movie has to be br2049
Modern movies have the blue filter baked-in so nobody can claim the movie shouldn't be so blue.
Maybe they'll add another blue filter on top decades later.
This is the only example in the thread where the bottom actually looks better. What movie is that? They actually made it more colourful.
The charm of the original colour grading for train spotters is how the constantly overcast Scottish sky affects the film. That's what cheap film looks like in an overcast setting. The cheapness adds to the atmosphere, you're watching a movie about junkies.
Oh dang wtf that can't be real
They’re intentionally removing warmth from reality to put everyone in a semi state of anxiety fear and panic. Makes it far easier to control you.

top is accurate to the original film masters used in theaters
bottom is the result of shoddy conversion and the same happened to lord of the rings on bluray (until 4k bluray)
Interesting because I always thought the visual style was one of the best parts of the movie, how sickly bright and saturated it all looks.

why do they do this? do they literally think modern style = better?
Shut the frick up you stupid zoomer
nice argument, zoomer
Idk what you mean by late 90s/early 00s look
The top looks like it could come from the Matrix
obviously there's exceptions to the rule moron. generally movies released back then were bright & colourful.
>gets proved wrong
>seethes
lmao

it looks better
you WILL enjoy our washed out colour kino variants
You VILL like der BLÄU vilter und you VILL be happy

oh yes, my favorite, the anti-soul filter
Downgrade.

You didn't even read the thread. Also name 5 pink tinged DVDs, I want to fact check your nonsense.

CRTs had superior colours though.
this
even cheap ones mog the frick out of anything made in the last 20 years
The new one looks ten times better. Colour matches the sickly theme of the movie itself, and it looks like it was actually shot on film (which it was).

do you even live in the real world? what planet has a cyan filter on every light bulb?
That's what the film print looks like moron.
Tell 'em king.
>halloween
>green trees
Green autumn trees for the modern audience.
Halloween was filmed in May.
Criterion version is correct - that's the colour of scotland
wrong, Scots turn pink after <10 seconds of sun exposure
I normally say these changes don't matter much but this one is bad
now it looks like any other movie
Almost as bad as to what they did to Lotr
>there's too much magenta in the original
>should we make a more accurate remaster?
>nah, just BLAST IT WITH CYAN!!!
Great jobbu, very sugoi cinema.
How do you know what is accurate?
I go outside on a sunny day and open my eyes. I know this is alien to some people but it works.
You do realize films aren't real life right? They have lighting and art direction and color grading that deviate from reality for effect.
why would a film about how shite scotland is not use scotland's naturally depressing lighting?
>You do realize films aren't real life right?
Before CG shite they were at least shot from reality though.
>They have lighting
Cool.
>and art direction
Super cool.
>and color grading that deviate from reality for effect.
Not cool. I wanna strangle every single color grader and color grading apologist.
it is not the original
it's the dvd that people associate being "original" since it was the first version of the film they saw
The fist time I saw it was on vhs and it didn’t look like an arctic landscape zoom
>same colours except for a slight reduction in that unnatural pink tint which clearly wasn't intentional
>proper range of values so you can actually see the brickwork and shine on the walls and everything isn't hideously blown-out
just fricking turn the brightness up yourself if you want it to look like a cheap DVD transfer. sickboy isn't supposed to be wearing pink. his cigarette isn't supposed to be a solid white rectangle.
I'm extremely upset.
Buy physical while you still can
But anon that is for a physical release
Blu ray coloring has been shit for a while. It doesn’t even match the original 35mm transfers
I actually sort of agree with this one. The colour palette in the original is weird, like an older version of that weird neon green filter on movies post matrix. The new one actually looks raw and unfiltered and Scottish
Just because the upper one is way too pink doesn't mean the lower one isn't way too green.
Silk by Wolf Alice just came on shuffle while i was browsing this thread
>And when she sleeps she hears the blues And sees shades of black and white
normally I'm against it but bottom was over saturated just to make bright TV advertisements less jarring when interwoven with it. when zoomers demand extremely dark movies they are trying to disassociate with boomer TV.
nah, thats how the dole offices were lit up
rude filter
with ai you can easily do these "remasters" by yourself
Let's see some then.
>you know its a depressing movie because everything is dark
Wow...
coke is fine if you just buy a small amount and do it like once a month or something but it’s generally not worth the money.
Whoa get a load of this drug doer ever here. He did them so much they stopped working. Frick that's cool. I wonder how many beers he can drink.
moron.
Haha
That must be some shitty ass cut coke, I have not touched the stuff in 20 years but I doubt your friends are doing fish scale uncut blow, at least not an 8ball in a night.
>watching redditerion trash
Coke is pretty chill, it’s kinda like being drunk without becoming a slow moron part
Coke is for girls and kids.
Coke is awful
It's like being drunk but instead of funny conversations you think you're saying something profound
I unironically think these drab depressing filters is a conspiracy to depress the populace
millennial color grading.
What exactly is the "original" on the bottom? Dvd, VHS, Laserdisc, TV spot? None of that is original.
This seems like an average amount of grain for a film I'd say.
That movie kicked ass
Bump for this thread I do love a trainspotting bread hope this one last as long as the other one did which was about 24 hours iirc
Are you people living in my walls? I finally watched pic related tonight, just on whim, and holy shit! It was as good as the original. I loved seeing everyone older and a little wiser, learning to make peace with their past mistakes. I'm gonna watch it again tomorrow, because it was that fricking kino.
>It was as good as the original.
Lol you're right. Obviously T2 can't stand on its own, unlike the original. But I still think it was a perfect extension of the first one.
It's underrated on Cinemaphile
I’d have to watch it again to comment on how it holds up to the original but I remember watching it and actually be impressed, I was sure it was going to be trash.
It's definitely underrated.
It highlights the growth of the characters over the 20 years between the two films, which is one of the main themes of themes of the sequel.
probably the best theatrical experience in the last decade for me
>It was as good as the original
Are you fricking moronic. It was legit bad
>"choose instagram...."
>Francis Begby turns into a horror movie villain when in the previous film he was a violent hothead that had a lot of charm
>entire 3rd act is literally a slasher movie finale
>Rents gives all the money to some b***h
>Spud writing a book called "Trainspotting"
don’t forget the Catholic shit!
lol I mean it had its charms I suppose but yeah it wasn’t anywhere as good as the first one
My main complaint was some of the acting seemed a bit unconvincing
>OP posts fake bait
>50 replies thinking it's real and not even asking for the source
lol, this site is literally r e d d i t
most of us can handle a simple google search without having our hands held
He gave the source you fricking inbred
Good link, thank you. Nice to have the occasional post on here that in't an instant knee-jerk reaction.
>Do people like Michael Mann, Danny Boyle, Bong Joon-Ho suddenly developed some kind of color blindness at the same time or something?
This is unironically the case. Older people have yellower vision, this is why they're compensating by adding so much blue.
This would also explain why music is mastered so much "louder" than of old, the techs are all half-deaf boomers and have been since the 90's
Are we actually going to pretend the bottom looks better? Top actually looks like it was shot on film, bottom looks like some terrible blown out early digital shit like 28 days later
we are on Cinemaphile were everything new is always bad anon
The definition is lower but the colors fit the theme better.
Top looks like it was filmed by a schoolof guppies living in an aquarium.
It’s a shame this shot got wasted on a dvcam. Not amount of remaster is gonna fix that
Cry more 4k b***h
everyone forgets the epilogue of the film is shot on film, stating from the CU of Jim waking up a second time. the whole film is building to that solace, and it's more effective with the clarity and brightness of 35mm versus the dark and muddy tape shit we've been enduring. this effect will only gets more pronounced with further remastering.
>the entire movie looks like shit so the ending can look clear
Thats so moronic
What's hilarious about 28 days is that I had forgotten about the handicam thing when I torrented and I thought I had downloaded a shit torrent. I trolled myself.
DRIVE BOY DIVE BOY
DIRTY NUMB ANGEL BOY
ffs
test
The colors look fine in the screenshots on their site. Not one of those cases where the director goes back and tints the whole thing.
choose sneed
Digital color correction was a mistake
honestly, top looks like a scene from a proper film, and bottom looks like something I would catch on the telle.
nothing wrong with the top, you just need to adjust your tv settings to make it look brighter.
>buy physical media goy
>it’s the only way to preserve movies from getting streamcucked
Meanwhile:
I'm disappointed I was hoping this thread would be like the other one a couple weeks ago where I had a nice conversation with some people who had been through the same shit as me with addiction and other bad stuff
And instead we're talking about television and film. What a letdown.
Lmao.
Scottland is blue, just like Mexico is orange and Germany green.
Everyone knows Scotland has a blue filter because it rains there and is depressing
>"AM I..............LE SCOTTISH?!?!?!?"
>"AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HELP ME I'M GOING INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
>I base my entire identity on male skirts, an orange fizzy drink, and deep fried food
the wicker man is scottish?
Yes, very much so
Although the island is owned by Christopher Lee and his strong English accent so you might be forgiven
But it's an island off the west coast of Scotland, and the detective is from... Edinburgh? Somewhere on the mainland
Doesn't he do a haft assed Scottish accent in wicker man
Yep
Scotslag kino
Filth really missed the mark and doesn’t belong amongst the kino
ITS SHITE BEING SCOTTISH
Gotta slap on that bong filter
Criterion remaster means removing film grain and adding blue filters
Why do they do that?
they are rewriting our history
Many studios have someone who does the filters and to justify their jobs they make big changes and justify them to execs, they may also have unions or at least office cliques supporting them and everything they do. They probably claim the dark blue filter makes it more "gritty" and "real".
>Why do they do that?
So they can sell you the re-remastered "masterpiece" edition in a couple years. Music industry has been shittily mixing albums, then releasing a remaster if it's popular, for decades now.
why do I like the film grain? It's supposed to be worse but I really like films with it more, idk why is that. can someone explain?
its just pure soul bro
modern cinema cameras are so sharp its painful to look at
yeah but why does it look so uncanny? is it because its too "realistic" or flawless to be immersive?
It adds texture to flat images, giving them an ersatz sense of depth.
Especially true for old anime, where it artificially made it seem like there was a lot more detail and shading than there actually was, at least some of the time.
Why do old records sound better than new ones? It just is that way, don't worry about it
Reminder that trailers for this film uploaded to the internet before either of the blurays were released more closely resemble the top one.
%3D
On that note, here's a comparison between multiple prior releases of Trainspotters, some of which are closer to the new 4k: https://nitter.privacydev.net/SadHillDevan/status/1714317990819500239
inb4 b***hing about >xitter to sidestep the fact that OP is a homosexual.
imagine if top left was the dvd, Cinemaphile would literally be pissing and screaming they added a color filter to it
there's literally more grain in the upper version
criterion unironically better. bottom looks like a fricking commercial
Come on fellow addicts where the frick are you I need some counselling lmao
Get addicted to making money. I've been trading the foreign exchange and it's a wild ride. Nothing hits your veins as hard as watching numbers go higher, into thousands of thousands only to lose it all in a few hours of slow decaying decrepit fallacy.
How did you learn forex? If you’re letting trades ride in the thousands range you must be really good lol
looks like they made it "cinematic" lol
the cyan bluray shit was lazy 8 years ago, its parody at this point.
>Watch bluray
>The movie is now blue
Why do think they call it blue ray son
Just blue my shit up.
Why do they do this? How hard is it just to fricking scan the film and sell that instead? Why do companies have to autistically recolor and format shit so much
Blue is more cinematic. Audiences could become confused or angry without it.
Soul vs soulless
Second in the right. let's blow out the sky
I was in Edinburgh this month! It was neato!
Saw no heroin junkies, maybe they fixed that problem.
Anyway who is making the remaster anyway? Do the original creators have any input? I say its fine if its their vision.
You dress like a fricking queer
He dresses fine, how about you relax and try some cordiality Pablo
>their vision
their woke revision to make everything bleaker than it was back then so there is more demoralization by mandella effects.
ALONG TOIME AHGO, I WOZ IN AFRICA
It's not that deep.
They buy the rights at a bargain, "restore" it by pushing two sliders left and right on the RGB wheel. Crop it. Sub it. Cheaper to not bother with an cinematographer or color grader when you can literally just use Adobe Premiere or any other basic software to do it with incredible ease. Shill Brand Identity, Criterion Collection™. "We are le intelligent film auteur group, with a mission to restore great cinema". Sell it en masse at premium. Capitalism baby.
I saw plenty heroin junkies last month in Dublin
That's in Ireland moron
autist
>Their version
Its not their version anymore.
Holy shit they already rebuilt the building in the background kek
>You have to download mods to fix your movies now
What's EE?
Extended Edition
Does that differ from Director's Cut editions? It's the only edition I have I think.
Blue is overdone. We need to bring back yellow.
Not even anime is safe from blue.
Lmao that looks so sterile
Imagine paying for that
At least use a decent source, arsehat.
Remaster looks like shite, anyways.
HOLY FRICK NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
You cant even see their sweat on their skins anymore.
Best version would probably be somewhere between the two. The top one is too pink and magenta, bottom is too cyan/green
top looks better
Top looks better, more distinction in the contrast.
>check my drive
>over 80% of the movies stored there are bluray rips and have this nasty blue / grey tint
It's over. My whole cinematic experience has been ruined.
I've been fed slop this whole time and I didn't even realize it.
The natural colour of grass and leaves is aqua. You must accept it.
It looks like shit but lots of great films shot on film also don't have natural looking colors at all. Natural doesn't mean good in all cases.
why isnt there a middle ground between these two?
left has some sort of yellow tint, right looks desaturated
The right looks desaturated because of hdr conversion bullshit. Watching it from the disc, it would be more vibrant. That release has other issues though, like Hackson's obsession with grain removal.
HDR is the ultimate pleb filter
I think it was fixed already, either by fan versions or otherwise.
There's more to movies than technical qualities anon. You enjoyed watching them, didn't you?
What's the chance that's how the original film and filming on location looked like and we've been watching a shitty oversaturated dvd for 20 years?
Very high, Danny Boyle says this is the way the film is supposed to look.
This.
Here's something you dorks don't understand: nobody is stopping you from watching the existing version that you prefer.
Blue blue 'lectric blue
that's the colour of my room
>they even changed his mannerism
AI has gone too far
You know they do this just so they could resell the same shit to you over and over again.
10 years from now it's gonna be "TRAINSPOTTING IN 8K! THIS TIME WITH ACTUAL COLORS!"
I'm still waiting for a release of The Matrix that doesn't look like there's algae growing on my screen.
Threw a quick white balancing to make it more neutral.
I'm no expert, but I think it looks good.
looks way better than either of the frames in OP
they should just hire you to do the color grading
Looking good. Sometimes shit is salvageable, sometimes not.
They don't want it to look good, they want it to look obnoxiously blue, for whatever mysterious reason. They've made this abundantly clear by their actions.
>people who oversaw the original theatrical color timing can't make the blu-ray look same because...they just don't know!
Frick it, here's the other screencaps.
Freeze frame. Yep that’s me about to cut a dos c**t with my boot knife
Not every film has to look true to life. Color grading is a conscious choice.
The issue is that trainspotting used to look true to life, there's no reason to change it when it was already fine and its been fine for 25 years.
>The issue is that trainspotting used to look true to life
Proofs? This looks pretty sickly
I don't think a 20 year old bosian 35mm print is a good example of how Trainspotting is supposed ot look like but heyho.
I'll take it over "trust me bro".
Yes, I know. That's why I said I made it to look just neutral.
Perhaps the neg looked neutral, but they made it look greenish for the cine prints?
>Color grading is a conscious choice.
Yes, but always a wrong choice. It's mind boggling how moronic directors can be when the constraints come off. Ridley Scott ruining the color in his final directors cut of Blade Runner comes to mind. But I guess there's no accounting for shit taste and you have it, baby.
You're talking like the theatrical release of Blade Runner somehow wasn't color graded.
You are so fricking moronic. I hope you are trolling but I guess not.
t. "Color grading is always the wrong choice"
You don't even know what color grading is.
You're trolling way too hard.
scotland hire this man
You should start your restoration company
It looks good and that's the problem. They want it to look like shit to fit the theme.
I'd hire you
>Cinemaphileners know better than criterion
Always wondered, where do junkies even get needles? pharmacy?
Why do you think needle sharing is such a problem? Many just don't have any needle supply of their own.
A lot of are relying on having a nurse as a friend or friend-of-a-friend that is willing to sneak out syringes for them.
Ah I see, I just thought they were strung out and just used each other's needles because of that.
Footage from a 35mm screening of Trainspotting
Not the best quality but it seems greenish.
God damn Trainspotting is one of those films I just don't "get". Like Requiem for a Dream. What's the appeal?
It seemed cool in the 90's
Really not actually that good, the book was alright I guess
I watched a documentary on how Stallone recut Rocky 4. He said he wanted to make it look "less 80s" and what we got was blue tint everywhere that looks like shit.
The final fight scene was a lot more impacting though, the upper hand going back and forth between them instead of Drago beating the snot out of Rocky and then Rocky beating the snot out of Drago.
Top is too dark for a lit up room during sunny day. Buttom colours off but light enough.
> I am waiting til 9am which is when my heroin dealer turns on his phone and I've been up since 7am yesterday morning today was today and the minutes have passed like hours baka.
i haven't done heroin in years and after living a real/boring life do you know what i want? more heroin
life is shit
mmm heroin
criterion cucklection is shit anyway
Criterion has been doing this shit since like 2015
What the frick is wrong with them? Did something change?
ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT.
Here’s a screengrab from the Criterion site. You can see a scene here.
https://www.criterion.com/films/29627-trainspotting
OP is absolutely full of shit.
It's what the director wanted. Get over it.
>so blue it loses detail due to the over saturation
I kneel, Jim. Nobody makes 'em bluer.
Shit like this and the Thief "remaster" makes me wonder how much of classic cinema really was just a big fluke.
In the recolor I literally can't tell what the frick is happening. Stripping color out of an image removes the definition between shapes. It's as bad as making the whole image blurry.
It's not just recolored, they used DNR to make everything look like shit.
Sharon has green teeth in the bottom one. That's actually impressive.
Top looks better
could be worse
Is this scene supposed to be during the daytime or night time?
day
around 1-4pm at least
I remember watching the film in 2008 and it looked more like the bottom
When I saw it in theaters it looked like #1
just wait till they start using AI on old movies....
To do what?
You know *what*...
I don't...
put black people everywhere
>To do what?
frick it up acourse
>Why would they brighten it? Top looks appropriately grimy and shit for a movie about Edinburgh smackheads
>Oh wait I misread OP
remastering shit is so god damn moronic. just make good new movies leave the past in the past so what if it looks like shit in 4k not every movie has to be br2049
