Back then producers pushed for a "the hero has to get the girl" story beat in almost everything, its why gratuitous sex scenes and weird romances sometimes feel bolted on for older movies.
I miss it, actually, though I remember complaining about it when it got too over the top or obviously forced, but everything's so bland today it could use a dash of something again, even if it isn't to the same degree as in the past.
